Hearing this, Nora looked down.
Caleb spoke again, âHeâs never fully trusted me, so I havenât found out his identity. However, since he said that, I think you should be careful.
Actually, you donât have to trust anyone, including me.â
At this point, Caleb coughed again. âEven though I wonât have a long life, who knows if Iâll ever want the gene serum again.â
Nora asked, âHowâs your health?â
âI wonât die for another month, at least.â
Caleb replied with a smile, as if he wasnât sensitive to this subject at all.
Nora was silent for a long moment before saying, âRest well.â
â⦠Okay.â
Nora wanted to hang up the phone, but seeing that he hesitated a bit, she asked, âWhy?â
âYes?â
âThereâs nothing else?â
ââ¦â Caleb was silent for a moment before coughing and saying, âYouâ¦nothing. Iâm hanging up.â
âOkay.â
After hanging up, Nora sensed that Caleb still had a few things to say. She frowned and decided to drive to the hospital.
Caleb had helped her block Barbarianâs attack last time. The bones throughout her body had cracked and she was still recovering.
In the VIP room.
When Nora arrived, Caleb was already asleep.
When the nurse saw her, she said quietly, âMr. Grayâs injuries are recovering very quickly, but his wounds still hurt. Also, he was given general anesthesia during the operation. Now he canât be given any more sedatives, so it hurts every time we change his dressing.â
Hearing this, Nora frowned. âSo, did he put up with what happened to him?â
âNot really.â The caregiver smiled. âWhenever this happens, Mr. Gray takes out his headphones and puts them on. Listening to the music makes his body feel relaxed. He was also very helpful when they changed his dressing. The doctor asked him what music he was listening to that was so effective, but Mr. Gray didnât say anything. We just joked that it was his anesthesia.â
Thatâs right.
Listening to music to relieve pain?
This was also a solution.
Nora didnât take it seriously. She put on her gown and walked into the intensive care unit. After checking Calebâs various indicators, she looked at the person in the bed.
Caleb was lying there with a slight smile on his lips.
He still had the Bluetooth headset in his ear. One of them fell out and landed next to the infusion tube.
Nora was worried that he would move in his sleep and accidentally press the headset, so she took it off. Just as she was about to place it on the table, her ear twitched. When the nurse said that listening to music could relieve pain, Nora was very curious.
After all, this was a medical study. If it was really that effective, she could forget about using anesthesia for minor pain in the future.
She had no intention of invading someone elseâs privacy herself.
After all, the things she was hearing most likely belonged to him and could comfort him.
However, she really wasnât the type to eavesdrop. It was due to her good hearing.
The moment she held the earpiece, the voice from inside reached her ears.
When Nora heard that voice, she was stunned.
She looked back at the bed. Caleb was still sleeping.
Nora thought she might have heard wrong.
If not, why had she just heard his voice through her earpiece?
She frowned and brought the earpiece closer to her ear.
His cold, deep voice came through clearly from inside.
â⦠That is why I have no desire. I observe your wonders and your frequent desires.
Both come from the same source and have different names. The same title is profound, mysterious beyond belief, and the gateway to all wondersâ¦â
Now she was sure it was her voice reading the sacred text of morality. Nora: ââ¦â
She frowned and looked at Caleb.
Seeing that the man was still sleeping, she quietly put on the earpiece.
After he came out, he was still frowning.
The nurse said, âMiss Smith, why donât you wake up Mr. Gray? Iâve been looking forward to his visit. He has finally come, but he has fallen asleep. When he wakes up, Iâm sure he will be angry.â
After saying that, the nurse couldnât help but look at Nora and advise her something beyond her responsibilities as a nurse, âNo matter how busy I am, you should come see him more.â
The first thing Caleb would ask when he woke up each day was, âHas Miss Smith been in?â
Every time she said no, Caleb felt very disappointed.
His eyelids would droop and his lips would pucker tightly, making the nurseâs heart ache.
A weak, good-looking man provoked a protective instinct in others.
The nurse thought it was all Miss Smithâs fault for not coming in often.
Nora did not understand the nurseâs feelings and just looked at her calmly. This look immediately made the nurse realize that she had said too much. She immediately lowered her head. âIâm sorry, Miss Smith. Iâve been too talkative.â
Nora withdrew her gaze and did not argue with her.
The nurse explained carefully, âI served Mr. Gray some soup today. He asked me if you had come. When I told him no, he got distracted and even burned himself on the hot soup, soâ¦he shouldnât have said so much.â
Nora looked back into the living room and stood thoughtfully.
She instructed, âTake good care of him. Call me if anything happens.â
Calebâs family wasnât here. Besides, Caleb was hurt because of her. Nora couldnât leave him behind.
The nurse nodded, âOkay.â
After Nora left, Calebâs ears in the room slowly turned red. He opened his eyes. When the nurse saw him, she pushed open the door and walked in. âMr. Gray, are you awake? What a coincidence. Miss Smith just left.â
Caleb looked up at the ceiling and nodded.
The nurse poured him a glass of water. âYour girlfriend is really beautiful. She must be pretty busy too, huh?â
Girlfriendâ¦
Calebâs gaze softened. He took a sip of water and lowered his long eyelashes, not denying it.
The nurse rambled on. âShe must be very busy. Otherwise, why wouldnât she come to see you for so longâ¦but you must really like herâ¦â

Nora put on a mask and went back to Kingâs house.
She went into the living room and sat down on the couch. When he heard she was back, Justin put down the document in his hand and went downstairs to see her.
As there were many more people from Switzerland in the villa, they both wore masks very carefully.
They sat facing each other. The scene was very strange, but it was inexplicably harmonious.
Seeing that Nora remained silent, Justin asked, âWhat are you thinking about?â
Nora: âCaleb.â
The man sitting across from her had a dark expression on his face. âHuh?â
Nora told him about her voice reading in Calebâs earpiece.
Justinâs tone was instantly filled with jealousy. He pursed his lips and asked suddenly, âYou didnât notice anything?â
