Despite being a well-known hacker, Solo didn’t take the fact that Interpol was after him very seriously.

After all, all these years he had only done private assignments and most of the money he made was legal. He had only fled to the United States because, firstly, he wanted to visit Nora and, secondly, he found it very annoying to be in Interpol’s crosshairs.

But even if he was caught, he would be out of jail after only two or three months. Moreover, if he took the initiative to cooperate with Interpol, he could even join them, start from scratch and become a white hat.

Interpol had already invited Solo to join them, but he had turned them down.

Now that he knew Brenda was an Interpol agent, he began to think about joining them. That was why he had continued to show his professionalism until now.

That was why Solo wasn’t afraid at all, even though Aaron had subdued him, and was even asking him what was going on.

Aaron didn’t hold back at all, which made Solo’s shoulders ache badly. However, none of that could compare to his desire to know what the hell was going on with Brenda.

Aaron glared at Solo, with a deep hatred in his eyes that was almost overflowing.

He sneered, “Well, if Captain Brenda won’t tell you the truth, then I will. The two of you will never be together because…”

“Aaron!”

Before Aaron could finish, Brenda’s cold voice came through, preventing him from saying the rest of what he wanted to say.

The woman, who was tall and straight, stepped out of the room and her gaze fell on Solo. Her pretty face was tense and cold as she said slowly, “Don’t waste your breath telling her unnecessary things!”

He took a step forward. He clenched his fists tightly, glared at Solo and said, “You and I have been on two different paths since the beginning. I told you to stay away from me a long time ago, but you keep coming to my door again and again. In that case, I’d better accept this achievement you’re offering me! Aaron!”

Aaron stood up. “Here!”

Brenda looked down and was quiet for quite a while.

Solo also looked at Brenda, his eyes full of disbelief. However, she reacted quickly and said, “Captain Brenda, I know I may have done some things that violate international law, but I don’t think I’ve done any great wrong, have I? Seeing that I am remorseful and that I have also offered to help you, why don’t you consider recruiting me into the team?”

Brenda’s fists were shaking a little.

Next to her, Aaron also grimaced. His eyes were bloodshot and all his muscles looked bulging, as if he was going to instantly punch Solo to death.

Before he could speak, Brenda said, “Detain him for now and then have the local police take over. Our top priority now is to arrest Barbarian.”

“Captain Brenda!” Aaron shouted angrily.

Brenda was shaking. “Do as I tell you! We’ll do everything according to the system!”

Aaron looked at Solo. The way he gritted his teeth in fury confused Solo and made him lose it. Despite this, after a brief pause, Aaron replied, “… Yes, ma’am!”.

In the end, Solo couldn’t help but say, “No, you two, I’m asking to join you. Besides, aren’t I just a petty criminal? Do you really need to grind your teeth so hard? You make it sound like I’m some kind of heinous killer. I…”

“Shut up!”

Brenda glared at him and let out a low cry, which silenced Solo.

Only then did Brenda look at Aaron. “Take him to an isolation cell and keep him there.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

Aaron left with Solo.

Nora, who was standing next to him, looked at Brenda.

Brenda took a deep breath.

Nora walked over to her and asked suddenly, “What exactly is going on?”

Brenda’s eyes were bloodshot and there were faint tears in her eyes.

She looked down and smiled suddenly. “You know something, Nora? Some people with certain abilities may have done nothing wrong, but their abilities are, in themselves, a mistake…”

After leaving those words behind, Brenda turned sharply and said, “I’m going to look for Peter’s body. If I don’t find him today, I’m afraid we’ll be turned away tomorrow. I’m leaving for now.”

With that, she left.

Nora’s jaw tensed as he watched her from behind.

However, she didn’t go after Brenda, but followed Aaron.

He was only a hacker, so he was physically very weak and posed no threat to her. However, Brenda had not escorted Solo herself, but had had Aaron do it?

This proved that Brenda had been covering for Solo all this time.

She was giving Solo the opportunity to escape.

After all, for Solo to successfully avoid the pursuit of so many police officers all these years, he had to have his methods too.

But as she approached, she discovered that Solo had kept his head down and had followed Aaron the whole time, showing no intention of resisting.

Halfway through, as Aaron passed the restrooms, he suddenly stopped. He looked at Solo and said, “I’m going to the toilets for a while. You stay here and don’t run away, you hear me?”

Solo looked at him blankly. “Okay.”

Aaron looked at him again before finally entering the restroom.

Nora hurried over and grabbed Solo’s arm. “Come on.”

Solo, however, stood still and shook his head. “I’m not leaving.”

Nora didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “Aaron left you out here to give you a chance to run away!”.

“I know.”

She just let out a silent sigh. As if he were a confused child, he lowered his head and said, “That’s why I can’t leave. I want to know why the hell Brenny is ignoring me. I definitely have to find out why, right?”.

Nora: “…”

To be honest, Nora had roughly deduced what the reason might be, but she only had a vague idea of what might have happened, so she would just have to investigate to get the details. She said, “I’ll find out what happened for you.”

“Still, I’m not leaving.”

He just squatted on the ground stubbornly and hugged his knees.

Nora could only crouch too, her patience was about to run out. “What’s wrong with you?”

She only sighed. “If I leave, Brenny and I will never have a chance to reconcile. I have to stay.”

Only when Nora heard this did she suddenly realize what he meant.

Solo wasn’t stupid. Otherwise he wouldn’t have done so many things for her so quickly all these years. Deep down he knew and understood it all.

He knew very well that he would become a fugitive if he ran away. Brenda didn’t want to arrest him, but at the same time, Brenda was pushing him away completely.

He looked at Nora blankly. “Even if he really has done something wrong, I have to know what it is. Surely I have to find out if there’s any chance of making it up to her. I don’t want to give up Brenny just like that.”

Solo’s crimes would only land him in jail for two or three months at most.

Nothing much would happen to him.

Seeing that he was being so stubborn, Nora sighed quietly and said, “Fine.”

But as soon as she said that, Aaron’s voice was heard from the toilet entrance. “You’ll never be able to make up for the mistakes you’ve made!”

Solo turned around hurriedly and looked at Aaron. “What the hell is going on, what have I done wrong, what have I done?”

Aaron clenched his jaw.

He looked at Solo wildly. “What have you done wrong? You owe us a life.”

Solo was stunned, but quickly came to his senses. “I… I didn’t. I’ve never killed anyone, I’ve never had those assignments!”

Before he could finish, Aaron asked, “Do you remember someone named Marcus?”

He only paused before suddenly realizing who he was talking about. “Yes, I remember him – isn’t he a hacker? He even provoked me and said he was a better hacker than me…”

After saying that, Solo asked, “But what does that have to do with him?”

Aaron lowered his eyes. “He was a partner of mine and Captain Brenda’s!”.

Solo was taken aback.

Aaron continued talking. “Marcus, Captain Brenda and I: the three of us were close friends and always worked together when we were handling cases. Marcus had a crush on Captain Brenda, so he always went out of his way to coordinate with her during operations. Marcus was very capable. His superiors once talked to him about leading a team, but Marcus never accepted. Instead, he willingly worked under Captain Brenda, not because he admired her skills, but because he wanted to protect her.”

Aaron clenched his fists and his whole body shook. There was hatred and resentment in his eyes as he stared at Solo.

His look made a foreboding feeling suddenly dawn on Solo. “Where is he?”

Aaron lowered his eyes. “He’s dead!”

Solo’s heart sank. “B-but I wasn’t the one who caused his death. What does that have to do with me? I-”

Before he could finish, Aaron suddenly looked at him. “He wasn’t convinced of your hacking skills, so he once said publicly that he wanted to confront you, right?”

He just nodded. “Yes, but I ignored him.”

Aaron grimaced and lowered his head.

Suddenly, he asked, “Three months ago, did you accept an assignment to hack someone’s phone?”

He just nodded. “Yes, how did you know?”.

Solo had always accepted private jobs from others, but he had never done something as terrible as murder. Besides, the people who commissioned him to do the job had to inform him of what they intended to do after the assignment.

He would not allow them to use him to do bad things.

As he thought about that, he suddenly looked at Aaron. “That phone… Was it Marcus’?”

Aaron lowered his eyes. “No, it was Captain Brenda’s.”

His answer made Solo’s eyes widen sharply. He suddenly thought back to three months ago, when someone had sent him an email, saying that his girlfriend had betrayed him. She had cheated on him with many people at the same time and was scum. So he had offered Solo $3,000 to locate the girl’s GPS.

$3,000 was nothing but peanuts to him, but what he hated most was that kind of woman, so he had accepted the simple assignment.

He checked the phone number provided by the other party, whereupon he discovered that the girl was indeed an unfaithful woman and a gambler, as the GPS location of the phone was usually in places like nightclubs.

After Solo sent the GPS coordinates to his client, the client replied, “You are way out of line! How dare you be the easy woman in town, you cheated on me for so many years and I didn’t even notice! Seriously, I’m furious.”

With the mentality of someone watching a show, Solo had replied, “Break up with her. That woman is not worth it.”

But his client then sent him a message asking for help. “Can you help me hack my girlfriend’s phone for ten minutes? I want to lock her in the bathroom and scare her a little as punishment.”

To Solo, a request as small as that wasn’t even worth mentioning.

He agreed immediately. In fact, it even seemed to him that he was doing justice and promoting good.

But he didn’t understand how it could be Brenda.

While he was stunned, Aaron grimaced and spoke again. “That day, after much difficulty, Captain Brenda, Marcus and I finally managed to track down Barbarian’s whereabouts. So as not to alert the enemy, Captain Brenda went in to scout the place first. We agreed that she would give us a signal in five minutes, but suddenly we lost contact with her. Marcus was worried about Captain Brenda, so he rushed in right away… he thought the signal source he had set up was inadequate, which caused Captain Brenda to be unable to send us the signal…. But we had never thought that the reason it hadn’t gone out was just because of a little hacker mischief! Marcus, for trying to save Captain Brenda, was brutally murdered by Barbarian.”

At that moment, Aaron suddenly raised his fist and slammed it in Solo’s face.

Nora did nothing. Instead, she stared at the two of them.

Solo didn’t duck either. It seemed he had never imagined that things could have turned out this way….

Solo had hacked someone’s phone for ten minutes and had prevented them from using it. How did it involve someone’s death?

Besides, of all the people it could have been, that person had been Brenda!

She even remembered that she had had some conversations with the owner of the phone back then.

Using an unknown number, he had sent the other party text messages and had scolded her, telling her that she should repent and that her boyfriend was still waiting for her.

The girl had replied, [Are you crazy?].

At that point, he started harassing her by sending her a bunch of text messages because he wanted her to change her mind and go back to her boyfriend.

In fact…

After hacking cell phone for ten minutes, when he gave control of the phone back to the girl, he had even left her a message on the screen: [Hahaha! You must have had a big scare, right? You deserved it].

He only staggered back a couple of steps.

He thought about how those big mocking words would have suddenly appeared on the phone as Brenda came out dragging the body of her partner who had tragically died. When he thought about how it had been him who had sent her that message….

Solo suddenly tightened his chest.

No wonder… no wonder Brenda had said there was no misunderstanding between them.

Yes, there certainly was no misunderstanding.

There was only hatred and enmity between them.

That was why Interpol, which had always ignored him, had begun to pursue him when the charges were not even serious. Even if they caught him, he would only serve two or three months in prison.

Solo’s nose was broken, hot liquid slowly dripping down.

Suddenly he didn’t know what to do anymore.

Aaron pointed outside. “Go away! After the incident we investigated and found out that it was just a hacker’s prank and indeed had nothing to do with Barbarian….

Yes, you are innocent and you were tricked, but no matter how many excuses you make up, you can’t erase the fact that you caused Marcus’ death! So, now you get it, right? Captain Brenda will never forgive you, because as soon as she sees you, she thinks of the text message, those short ten minutes and Marcus’ tragic death. Get lost! I’m not interested in stopping you. Stay away from us in the future.”

Aaron wanted so badly to punch Solo and kill him, but of all people, Captain Brenda had fallen in love with him.

Marcus’ only wish when he had been alive was for Captain Brenda to find someone she loved…. Now that he had, Aaron could not kill Solo to avenge him.

Solo, however, stayed where he was. He muttered to himself, “What can I do to make it up to him?”

“Make up for it?” Aaron sneered, “Only if you can bring Marcus back to life!”.
