Then silence settled in the lab.
A few moments later, Oscar coughed, âWhat did you say, how can you be Anti, youâre Lisa! Oh, I know, what you mean is that you and Anti are not only from the same country, but also from the same medical school, so you and she are alike, right?â
Nora: ââ¦â
Before she could speak, the others had already opened their mouths.
âThat must be the case. If you were really Anti, why would you come as an exchange student here?â
âHa, you are so ungrateful. Professor Epson gave you a great opportunity, and you donât know how to appreciate it? Is it because you think Anti is great? Then why donât you work on a project under her guidance? Besides, will she be able to complete the project?â
Hearing this, Nora replied, âShe doesnât because there is no way this project can be completed.â
Everyone responded angrily at once.
âHow can it be impossible, weâre almost done!â
âIn academia, there are no boundaries â you should look at which professor is better instead of working blindly behind closed doors!â
âProfessor Epson, sheâs so ungrateful that I think youâd better kick her out!â
As Epson listened to everyone around him, he looked back at Nora and sneered, âNo, I should keep her here.â
All: â?â
Epson said to Nora, âYou think Anti is great, donât you, then Iâll prove to you that Iâm better than her! Iâll also let you see with your own eyes whether this project will be completed successfully or not. Iâll prove that Anti is nothing! In terms of scientific research, we here at Staav University are the best. All right, donât just stand here and talk. Split up and get to work!â
One by one, the rest of the students left the area around Epson. They all curved their lips in disdain at Nora and some even wagged a finger at her to express their contempt.
Oscar also tugged silently at Noraâs sleeve. âEven if you like Professor Anti, donât talk about her again, okay?â.
Nora: ââ¦â
This was so⦠she couldnât leave even though she wanted to.
She asked, âIs there anything that needs to be checked in the file?â
She was still thinking about going to the archives to look for file #004.
Someone replied, âYes, there is. I need you to go to the archives to look for file #102â¦â
But before I could finish, Epson scoffed and said, âNo, no, she doesnât have to do anything. She just has to witness our success.â
As soon as Epson said this, no one dared to assign her any more work.
The student who should have worked herself to exhaustion had now become a slacker.
Nora was silent for a while. Then she simply sat down in the seating area at the side.
She watched as Oscar busied himself here and there. Under his directions, she printed out documents and did things that would never come close to the basic content.
Soon it was noon.
At the teacherâs request, Oscar went out to buy lunch, but when he brought it back he found that Noraâs had not been included.
Oscar was very apologetic. âI didnât know there was one less ration. They refuse to give you oneâ¦â
Nora didnât bother. âThen Iâll go eat alone!â
She got up. As she was about to leave, Epson sneered, âYou have to be back by 1 p.m.! Otherwise, I wonât give you any credit.â
Nora ignored him and walked out.
She wasnât really an exchange student, so she had no need for credit.
After lunch in the cafeteria, she was about to return to the lab when she ran into Jack again. Seeing her, Jack stepped forward and said with a smile, âLisa! What a coincidence! We meet again!â
Nora had a half smile on her face. âYes, what a coincidence, indeed.â
Jack scratched his head. âActually, itâs not a coincidence. Iâve been expecting you. I circled the cafeteria five times before I finally saw you.â
Nora: â?â
He sure was directâ¦
She narrowed her eyes and asked, âWhy were you waiting for me?â.
Jack said, âI heard thereâs a serial killer at the school, so I thought Iâd protect you. Donât be afraid, I can take you home.â
Nora raised her eyebrows, she hadnât expected such an answer.
âHow did you know about the serial killer?â She asked.
Jack laughed. âThe whole school knows about it. Several SWAT cars have entered our campus and now there are SWAT officers patrolling all the entrances and exits.â
SWAT officers?
Did that mean Brenda was here too?
As he thought about it, his phone rang. When he put his head down and answered, he saw it was Solo.
âHi Anti, Iâm at the school gates but the place is very strict. They wonât let anyone in who doesnât have a student ID, why, isnât it free to enter the Staav University campus?â
ââ¦Iâll pick you up at the gates.â
âNo, you donât have to.â He just sighed and said, âJust come to the SWAT teamâs temporary detention room on campus.â
Nora: â?â
âOh, they wouldnât let me in just now, even when I insisted on it, so I stole someoneâs student ID. They found out, so they brought me here.â
The corners of Noraâs lips twitched and she raised her eyebrows suddenly. âOkay, fine, Iâll be right there.â
She hung up the phone and calmly made her way to the detention room.

Outside the detention room.
Brenda glared at her subordinate and said, âHa. Come on, I want to see who has the guts to speak so haughtily and say heâll make sure we canât use our network if we donât let him go.â
