When Professor Wilson heard the counselor, he couldn’t help but shrug. “The exams have just been picked up. They haven’t been delivered to me yet, so…”

He couldn’t see Nora’s exam sheet either.

The counselor sighed. “Then it doesn’t matter!”

Professor Wilson then asked curiously. “Are your grades very good? I happen to need two undergraduate students as assistants in my lab. If your grades are excellent, then I can consider you for the position…”

“Oh, no.” The counselor replied, “She’s an exchange student from the United States. Oscar doesn’t want to guide her anymore, so I was thinking that if she could at least get a C, then I could try to talk to Oscar again.”

Hearing this, Professor Wilson understood and said, “Oh, an exchange student from the United States? The students at that school are terrible, so I doubt he could get a C. Even in her best condition, the most she could get would probably be only a D. I’ll be a little soft on her!”

The counselor nodded.

She thought for a while and then suddenly said, “Professor, you just said that your lab needs grad student assistants, didn’t you? I’m sure you want Oscar, so why don’t you take Lisa too? As an exchange student, everyone looks down on her. If you let her help in the lab, maybe she’ll be motivated to try harder.”

Professor Wilson thought for a while and shook his head. “I only want Oscar. My experiment requires the assistants to go to the archives to consult the materials there, so I won’t even choose that many graduate students. It’s impossible for me to accept someone on the team who knows nothing.”

The counselor frowned and said, “But our school treats exchange students so coldly every year, which reflects very badly on us. This year, the school has instructed me to treat Lisa well. Besides, Lisa is very beautiful, she’s the prettiest of all the exchange students I’ve seen. She has an indescribable sense of mystery…”

Before she could finish, Professor Wilson interrupted her, “I see, you want me to take her in to make it look like our course values exchange students, don’t you? But there are many professors who do experiments, it doesn’t necessarily have to be me. I can recommend someone.”

The counselor blinked. “You mean…?”

“The college dropout, of course. Didn’t that guy come back this year? The one who gets a salary from the university every month but doesn’t do his work? I hear he’s thinking of setting up an experiment lab! Can’t you get Lisa into his lab?”

The counselor understood at once. “You mean Professor Myers? But Professor Myers was the best microbiology professor in the past. Will he accept a foreign exchange student?”

Wilson smiled. “Wayne Myers is also from the United States, so who knows? You can try asking him. Besides, you said it yourself: that was all in the past. Do you think he’s still the best when it’s been more than twenty years? I’ve heard that his lab hasn’t gotten any investors so far and no students have applied to be under him either.”

When Wayne disappeared more than twenty years ago, everyone had said that he had left to go into business. That was because he kept asking business-related questions to people at the University’s School of Business and Economics.

It was said that his company was not doing very well, so he had returned to campus.

Many looked down on him upon his return. Everyone privately mocked him for living in the past and thinking he was still the best microbiology professor, which had caused him to set very strict standards for students applying to join his projects.

As a result, he had not yet established a team for his project. In addition, no one was investing in his project.

The counselor thought Wilson’s suggestion was superficial, but when she thought about how Oscar had turned Lisa down, she feared that even Lisa would give up if she couldn’t get a lab assignment.

All he could say was, “I’ll try to talk to him!”.

For Lisa, she had to bite the bullet and try.

After saying this, he turned and saw a grumpy figure in the doorway.

Wayne stared at Wilson.

You could tell the two were old friends. Wilson had competed with him then, but he hadn’t expected him to have become so despicable.

Didn’t he just take care of the Idealian Pharmacist for Miss Yvette for a few years? Now he was being taken for a nobody?

No.

They were too pretentious!

Wayne had always been someone who talked a lot and was incredibly naggy. He was so furious that he began to rant.

“Wilson, you piece of garbage, how dare you belittle me like that? Back then, no matter how hard you tried you couldn’t catch me. I was in first place while you were the eternal second. Yet, now you want to give me a student you don’t want? You think I’ll accept them? You… ”

Wayne ranting at him for ten whole minutes without a pause in between, causing both Wilson and the counselor to gasp.

When Wayne finally stopped, the counselor was quick to say, “Professor Myers, that’s not the case. Lisa is a good student…”

Before she could finish, Wayne angrily retorted, “Do you think there’s something wrong with my brain? Would I accept someone Wilson doesn’t want? I’m not stupid…

He nagged Wilson for ten minutes without any pause, again.

When she finished, she got thirsty, so she grabbed a glass and poured herself a glass of water.

Wilson looked at the counselor and said suddenly, “Since Myers doesn’t want her either, let’s forget about her. Anyway, American students are bad at their studies, so none of us would want them in our labs, would we, Myers?”

His provocation instantly infuriated Wayne. “Fuck you, who are you looking down your nose at? I’m an American myself! American students are not bad at their studies at all!”

Wilson gestured and said, “The facts are in front of you. I don’t want that American student and neither do you. If American students are really so excellent, why don’t you want them?”

Wayne, who had been put in check, was a little speechless. “Just like the ones here, there are good students and bad students in the U.S. How can you lump them all together?”

Wilson said, “But Lisa is already the best student there, and yet neither you nor I want her, so…I can only say that American students are just very bad at biomedical engineering.”

When Wayne became the top microbiology professor at the time, he had done his country proud.

There may be no boundaries in science, but there are among scientists!

Now that Wilson was cornering him like this, would he be able to stand it?

He immediately said, “Who says I don’t want it? I want it! I just don’t want students you’ve rejected, that’s all. Ha, but if you let me choose among all the students in the class, I would definitely choose her. What’s her name…”

The counselor was quick to reply, “Lisa.”

Wayne nodded. “Yes, Lisa! She’s the most pleasing to the eye of all the students in the class. I’ll take her! The students from America are not inferior at all.”

Wilson smiled. “Myers, you need to know this. That student’s grades are really bad, you know…”

“Ha, just because she has bad grades doesn’t mean she’s not talented! Maybe she’s just not good at tests. Wilson, you’re being biased by evaluating a student like that! Besides, they just finished the exam, SO her grades haven’t even been posted yet! How are you so sure her grades are bad?”

Wayne was gloating at her expense right now!

It didn’t matter, he had to accept Lisa into his lab team today. He wasn’t to let anyone think that American students were totally undesirable here!

Worst case scenario, I’d let her just use the equipment.

As he thought about it, the tests came into the office.

Wilson’s eyes lit up. “The tests are here. Let’s find Lisa’s and take a look.” Didn’t you want to know if Lisa would get a D or an E just now?”

The counselor: “…”

I didn’t want to know more.

When the counselor had proposed to Lisa to join a lab project, she had really only done it out of the student’s interest and just wanted to boost her confidence. She hadn’t expected it to become an excuse for Wilson and Wayne to argue.

She was very grateful to Wayne for accepting the student, so she didn’t want to embarrass him.

But just as she was about to speak, Wilson had already found Lisa’s test from the stack of exam papers. He smiled and said, “Come on, let’s see how ‘excellent’ this student from the United States is.”

He sounded mocking when he said ‘excellent’.

After he spoke, he even looked at Wayne and said, “Come on, Myers, let’s take a look together.”
