New York City, United States.
Iris stood in front of Justinâs grave and stared at the headstone in shock.
After his death, the Hunts were supposed to be buried in the family cemetery in California. By rights, his body should have been returned there, after which all his property would be divided among the heirs.
However, Nora had refused to send the body there.
Instead, she wanted it to stay in New York with her until she died, so that the family could move her and Justinâs graves together to California.
With those words of hers, Elder Mrs. Hunt had immediately made up her mind that Justin would be buried in the cemetery outside New York.
After all, people would be lonely without companionship after death.
Justin and Nora were not yet legally married, so she was not considered his wife at all. If in the future Nora met another man suitable for marriage and remarried, she could no longer be buried in her family cemetery.
Now that Nora had said that, how could Elder Mrs. Hunt continue to make her life miserable?
If she could keep Nora in the family and have her protect Peteâs inheritance for him-so that the Smiths and the Hunts would continue to have a connection with each other-even if she wanted Elder Mrs. Hunt to take care of her every day, Elder Mrs. Hunt would be willing to do that.
Therefore, it was a very easy decision for her to have Justin buried in New York.
But when Iris looked at the headstone in front of her and the picture of Justin on itâ¦. It was an ID photo of him. In the photo, his expression was stern and serious, he wasnât smiling. His eyes were cold and there was a beauty mark in the corner of his eye.
Iris kept feeling that all this was not real.
She shuddered slightly as she stood thereâ¦.
After standing there for some time until Irisâs legs became weak, Philip stepped forward and took her hand. âYouâve already seen it. Now, letâs go!â
However, Iris stayed where she was and said, âI want to go home! Nora and the others need me.â
Philipâs expression immediately darkened. âIris, you should know by now that you were blessed to have been able to see her grave again! Donât push your luck.â
But Iris shook her head and said, âJustin is gone, but he has left three children and Nora. I need to go see them and help them through this difficult time! I need to be with my family.â
Philip frowned. âI only agreed to let you come back and look around. I didnât agree to let you stay. Iris, Justinâs already gone, do you think you can still get away?â
After speaking, he held Irisâs wrist.
Iris looked down and sneered, âHere in New York, do you think no one will come to save me just because Justin is gone?â
She clenched her fists tightly and suddenly looked around. Instantly, seven or eight black-clad bodyguards came rushing out and headed towards them.
Philip looked down when he saw them. He let out a low chuckle and said, âI always knew you were no fool and would certainly build up your own forces. You said things like you didnât want so many people to disturb your sonâs peace, so you only allowed me to come here with youâ¦.. But do you think these few can stop me?â
He clapped his hands.
The bodyguards waiting outside rushed in.
Fifteen or sixteen men immediately surrounded the seven or eight bodyguards.
Iris blanched.
At first she had thought Philip would not overdo it. Besides, he had only called on his son so he could stay and assist Pete, so even if Justin knew what he had done, he wouldnât blame her for disturbing his peace.
Unexpectedly, Philip had made a backup plan.
In that respect, she couldnât compare to Philip.
Iris bit her lip and clenched her fists.
After the dozen men contained the seven or eight bodyguards, Philip again held Irisâ shoulders tightly and said, âCome on. Donât bother to die anymore. If you die, you wonât be able to see your grandchildren.â
Of course! Iris would not seek to die in vain, She was so angry that she couldnât say anything.
At that moment, a tender young voice came to her.
âGrandmother! Little Cherry has come to fetch you!â
