Chapter 795

Nora979 words~5 min read

“President Smith, you treat Former President Smith like your father, but he’s just playing with you! He has already given that account to Miss Smith. Saying he gave it to you was just a test!”

“That’s right, Nora has that account. It’s like adding wings to the tiger in the Hunt Corporation’s case. In the future, the gap between us and the Hunt Corporation will get bigger and bigger!”

“Yes, Miss Smith predicted the price of gold so accurately and even said the number of days clearly. She must have known it a long time ago!”

“President Smith, you…”

“Enough!”

Joel suddenly roared angrily and interrupted their conversation.

Joel was very famous outside. The people present were also afraid of him. If it wasn’t for his ability, why would these people willingly follow him?

With that, Joel lowered his head and said, “This matter is settled! Even without a source of information, can’t the Smith Corporation continue to grow? I think you people took the shortcut too generously and have already lost the ambition to fight! Society is developing very fast and opportunities are everywhere. Why? Others can do well without a source of information, but you, a group of elites, cannot even compare with them.”

With that, the group of people present did not dare to speak again.

They all lowered their heads.

Joel’s gaze passed one by one before he finally said, “This matter ends here. I hope they don’t do anything foolish behind my back. Dad taking me in and raising me is already the greatest kindness to me. The whole Smith Corporation should belong to Nora. However, Nora couldn’t be bothered to manage it, so Dad handed it over to me. I hope you won’t let go of your conscience! Don’t forget who has helped you to this day! Without Dad, how could you have gotten to where you are today?”

These words made everyone even more afraid to speak.

Actually, including Mindy, they all came from a poor family. Some were orphans. It was Ian who had set up a fund and paid for their schooling. Some who were talented had been allowed to study abroad.

They were not obliged to enter the Smith Corporation after their return. However, if they wanted to get in, they had to pass an interview with Joel.

These were people Ian had raised for Joel.

In fact, he had turned everything over to Joel. Only this group of people knew that it was Ian who had paid for everything when they were young. When they grew up, it was Joel they related to. They had given all their loyalty to Joel.

This was the greatest wealth that Ian had left to Joel.

So, even though Mindy’s words were very reasonable, Joel still couldn’t bring himself to have any resentment toward Ian. He couldn’t have any. He was the father who had raised him.

In this world there was no such thing as contentment in the human heart. Joel had once seen a story: a tycoon gave a beggar $100 a day. Day after day, year after year, the beggar got used to it. Until one day, the tycoon didn’t bring extra money and only gave the beggar $1.

The beggar was furious. He threw the dollar at the tycoon and shouted, “What do you mean by this, are you humiliating me?”. Joel was that beggar. Ever since he was young, everything was given to him by Ian.

Now, if Ian wanted to leave him, he shouldn’t have any resentment. Otherwise, wouldn’t he be an ingrate?

He could not make an enemy of someone to whom he was indebted.

He dared not speak further.

Joel waved his hand. “All right, get out. I won’t pursue this matter further here, but if I hear that any of you have attacked Nora, don’t blame me for disregarding our relationship!”

These words made Mindy flinch. She bit her lips and finally lowered her head before leaving the office with the others.

When they left, Joel sat down on the couch.

This made sense, but he had treated Ian as her father since he was young. Now that his father’s real daughter had returned, the whole family adored her. Ian’s whole heart was in Nora…actually, for a child like Joel who lacked love, it was impossible for him not to be uncomfortable at all.

Fortunately, Tanya had been by his side lately and had suppressed the dark side of his heart.

Joel took off his glasses and rubbed his temples.

Now that he had a father, a daughter, and a wife, he’d lived long enough, hadn’t he?

He didn’t want that bill. Even if Ian really did give it to Nora, it was the right thing to do. After all, Nora was his blood…he should let her have her way.

Besides, there was only one girl in the family. The right thing to do was for all the siblings to give in to their younger sister.

Joel was convinced in this way and finally began a day’s work.

At four o’clock in the afternoon, Joel’s phone suddenly rang.

He looked down and realized it was Ian.

He was overjoyed.

After he started working at the company, Ian rarely called him. His father’s love was always reserved. He longed for his father to call him and scold him for doing something wrong. This was the normal form of interaction between father and son. However, Ian was his uncle in the past and had not done this before. Although he hadn’t done it after he became his father either.

He took the call and said in a relaxed tone, “Dad, what’s wrong?”

“Nora is coming home for dinner tonight. She says she has something to say. Come back soon.”

Ian’s words made Joel’s heart sink. He looked down and smiled, “Okay.”
