Nora pulled back the curtains and sat on the couch, her grip on the phone a little tighter.
The events of the night before resurfaced before her eyes.
As Justin nudged her, he whispered three words in her ear, âNora, trust me.â
From the moment the man in black appeared, until she and Justin appeared in the room where the safes were, every second had passed too quickly. She and Justin had not said a single word to each other.
At that moment, she could only trust him, go with the flow and leave the room.
Then she saw the metal box fly out and hid it in her clothes, but when she looked back, Justin was already closing the metal door.
The sound of the bomb exploding in the room and the click of the metal door lock were like stones weighing on her heart.
He had told her to trust himâ¦.
But when Morris and the others brought out the charred body, despite everything, she had been filled with disbelief and had not been able to be calm at all.
That was why she had impulsively gone to the laboratory along with the corpse.
After thatâ¦
Since there were no records of Justinâs DNA in the database, Nora could only get Lily to send her the records of the samples she had taken in the past.
When Lily sent them, she had hinted to Nora that Sean had changed the DNA records along the way.
At that point, Nora was a little relieved.
But she was still worried.
It wasnât until she returned to the room, answered Lilyâs call, and heard her say loud and clear, âThe DNA comparison results show itâs not Mr. Hunt,â that she was finally completely relieved.
After hanging up the phone, Nora did not immediately change her clothes. Instead, she removed the metal box from her clothes and placed it on the coffee table. Then she sat down on the sofa and remained silent for a long time.
What exactly was in the metal box no longer mattered to him. What mattered to him was⦠What the hell was Justin doing? Why was he faking his death?
Also, why was he preparing a corpse?
Was he the one who planted the bomb in the safe?
What was his purpose in doing so?
Nora couldnât understand it at all.
Just as she was pondering these questions, her phone suddenly rang.
She answered the call. Calebâs voice came from the other end.
âI hear Mr. Hunt isâ¦â
He paused slightly. Then he asked, âYou⦠Are you all right?â
âIâm fine.â
Nora lowered her eyes, her voice calm and flat.
Caleb breathed a sigh of relief. Just as he was about to say something, Nora heard someone snatch the phone from him. Then Truemanâs shrill voice was heard.
âYouâre useless! That barbarian snatched the V16 right out from under your nose! Youâre useless! No wonder even Justin Hunt is dead! He deserves to die!â
Noraâs grip on her phone tightened a little.
Even though she knew Justin was just faking his death, she couldnât help but get a little angry.
But just then, Trueman sneered and said, âMy little maid, why donât we cooperate with each other?â
Nora narrowed her eyes. âCooperate on what?â
Trueman said, âLike me, Xander only has a little over two months to live. Weâre going to cooperate. Iâll go see the barbarian and retrieve what your mother left behind. If itâs a clue, youâll figure it out. Once you get the V16, youâll give me a cut. I guarantee I wonât make any more trouble.â
Nora clenched her fists tightly. âWhy should I trust you?â
Trueman let out a laugh. âDo you have any choice but to trust me when you canât even beat that barbarian in a fight? What else do you have to be so arrogant when even your husband is dead? If you want to save Xander, you can only beg me to help you.â
Nora hung up on him right away!
She looked at the metal box in front of her again. This time she seemed to have understood Justinâs objective a little.
The man in black alone was already so powerful that none of them could beat him in a fight, AND yet he was only one of five genetically modified humans!
If Trueman, Caleb and the other two were added to the equation, how was he going to be able to take them on?
Nora had clearly sensed that she had already thrown everyone off the scent before going to the bank.
However, the man in black had followed her. That was why Justin had set this whole thing up, i.e., he was redirecting his problems elsewhere. In fact, although she had claimed that the two of them had only gone to the bank in the middle of the night because Justin wanted to show her what he had prepared for her wedding, Trueman and company knew that they had gone to the bank for LA V16. But now, the situation was that she and Justin had been in âterrible shape and big troubleâ when they had confronted the man in black, So they had lost to the man who then stole V16 from them!
The news had already begun to spread privately among the insiders.
No one would suspect that V16 was actually still with Nora, after all, The man in black had even âkilledâ Justin! If he hadnât achieved his goal, would he have spared Noraâs life?
Therefore, he should have taken V16!
With that, everyone who had been watching Nora would now be watching the man in black.
Also, Nora may not have known who the man in black was, but the other four of the five successful genetically modified ones did.
This was Justinâs trap, as well as the personal security he had traded with his life!
One could say that his strategy was flawless and flawlessâ¦..
But where had the man gone? Why hadnât he contacted her even now?
Besides.
When the metal door closed and the blast of the explosion echoed in the room, did he really have time to retreat to the tunnel safe and sound? Besides⦠the man in black was gone, so he must have also discovered the tunnel and escaped along with Justin.
Could Justin defeat the man in black? Definitely notâ¦
So was Justin alive or dead? Was he seriously injured? Was that why he couldnât contact them?
As Noraâs imagination was running wild, there was a knock at the door. Brendaâs voice was heard.
âNora, Iâve prepared your suit for the wake. Whenâ¦youâre ready, come out and get it.â
Since Justin was âdeadâ, they had arranged a wake for him.
Many friends and family would come to the wake to pay tribute to Justin. As his fiancéeâ¦and mother of his three children, by rights, Nora should be there to attend to the guests.
Nora didnât move.
Outside, Brenda called back. âNora, can you open the door first? Grandma ⦠Has something to tell you.â
Elderly Mrs. Hunt?
Nora hastily tucked the metal box away again before heading to the door and opening it.
The door opened to reveal Brenda, who had already changed into a black formal dress, standing outside with Elder Mrs. Hunt.
Elder Mrs. Huntâs fingers trembled as she looked at Nora. She took a deep breath and said, âTo be honest, deep down, I blame you for her death.â
Nora was taken aback.
Elder Mrs. Hunt said, âHerman may be my son, but Justin is also my grandson. Iâve watched him grow up. My wish since Justin was a boy was for him to run the company and Iâm also the one who worked hardest on him! Now that heâs gone, this old woman canât go on living!â.
Elder Mrs. Hunt was beating her chest as she spoke.
Seeing her reaction, Nora suddenly understood why Justin had found himself in such a dilemma then.
He had continually allowed Elder Mrs. Hunt to dig her own grave, and then allowed Nora to slap the old woman. In doing so, her goal was to allow her to suppress Elder Mrs. Hunt and also to have Elder Mrs. Hunt recognize her.
Privately, Joel and Ian had complained about it. They felt that Justin could have easily taken care of Elder Mrs. Hunt with a few words, yet he had made her suffer such grievances.
But at that instant, Nora suddenly understood.
Elder Mrs. Hunt may have made many concessions to the Hunts, but her feelings for Justin were real.
At least, Elder Mrs. Hunt was the one who was most saddened by Justinâs âdeathâ at the momentâ¦.
As Nora was thinking, Elder Mrs. Hunt spoke again. She said, âBut⦠I canât blame you for that! Pete is Justinâs son and also the heir to the family. As Peteâs mother, you must pull yourself together! Nora, I know you grew up in the country, but you have an impressive medical background, so you should have been exposed to high-level events by now. Today, you must maintain a presentable front for the family. As for the future, I will help you protect the Hunt Corporation from Pete and hand it over to him personally when he grows upâ¦â
After saying that, Elder Mrs. Hunt looked at her again. She was silent for a long moment before finally saying, âI declare a temporary⦠truce between the two of us.â
After saying that, she turned and walked away.
Seeing his staggering footsteps, Nora suddenly stood up. It was the first time she felt respect for the old woman from the bottom of her heart.
Despite the many quarrels the family had faced, she was able to overcome the trials no matter what the circumstances.
When her son was gone, she had supported her grandson to become the heir.
Now that her grandson was gone, she was going to support Pete.
In that case, how could she break the old womanâs heart?
For some reason, Justin would not contact them. In that case, she would protect his house for him until he returned.
With that thought, Nora locked the door from the inside.
She pulled out the metal box and opened it.
She took a look to see what that thing was that everyone was fighting over .
