Chapter 714

At the sound of her voice, Justin narrowed his eyes. He wanted to say he didn’t need to, that he wanted to hear it from Iris, but suddenly he stopped.

Iris would never tell him her complaints. He would only hear about her complaints through others.

For example, Iris would probably never tell him why she liked orchids because she had never been a woman who knew how to express her feelings.

Justin thought about it and said, “Okay, speak up.”

In a villa on the outskirts of New York.

Herman and Lauren were sitting on the couch.

Lauren looked at Herman, who said, “You probably just know that I cheated on your mother with Lauren back then, so all this time, you must have thought that all the problems in our marriage lay with me, right?”

Herman’s words gave voice to the mentality most women had: that any man who cheated was a scumbag.

Justin lowered his eyes, but scoffed, “You’re wrong.”

Herman was taken aback.

Justin said, “You’re not a good husband and, at the same time, you’re not a good father either.”

Many people thought that once a man cheated, he was no longer a good father.

But that wasn’t necessarily true.

Some men could cheat a lot on their wives, but retained a love for their children. Perhaps the cheating itself affected the children, but even so, they would try to make up for it later.

In addition, some married couples were not suitable to stay together. Even if they had children, those who needed to divorce would still divorce. However, divorce did not affect their love for their children.

But this was not true in Herman’s case.

Not only had he cheated and hurt Iris, but he had also left Justin to his own devices afterwards. It was as if he had never had a son like him.

Not only had he let Iris down, but he had let Justin down as well.

Herman was stunned for a while. Then he tried to explain himself. “Justin, it’s not that I didn’t care for you, or that I didn’t love you…”

“At your age, you shouldn’t still be talking about things like love and romance.”

Justin again scorned him mercilessly.

Herman: “…”

Justin said tersely, “Just tell me the reason.”

Herman stood for a while organizing his thoughts. Finally, he sighed and said, “Justin, I know I neglected you, but you have to understand, I did all that because your mother cheated on me first! I’m a man, how could I let someone cheat on me, that’s why I went to Lauren! Don’t be fooled by Iris looking like she’s at peace with the world! She’s just trying to show herself as a good and humble person!”

Iris had fooled Herman?

Stunned, Justin suddenly looked at the woman in the kitchen.

Herman took a deep breath. “She had found another man. I couldn’t condone her behavior, so I filed for divorce. When your grandfather wanted to keep you in the family, I couldn’t let her sit back and enjoy the rewards of your success, and on top of that monopolize my family’s business. Besides, all she could think about was that man, so I asked her to leave you alone. You were still young then, and I was afraid that she would usurp your power and become the real Hunt mistress. Justin, I did all this for your own good!”

Justin frowned.

Herman’s argument might have sounded flawless and completely logical at first glance, but in truth?

If what he was saying was true, why had Iris spent all these years agonizing in the suburban villa instead of turning to her adulterous lover and keeping him company? She scoffed, “Do you think I’m going to believe that?”.

Herman panicked as well. “I have proof!”

Justin asked, “What proof?”

He was already biased in favor of Iris at that point and very much disapproved of Herman’s statement. If that was really the reason, then Iris’s decision to ignore him would really be too absurd.

While feeling uncomfortable about the whole thing, Herman said, “Those orchids! Those orchids are the proof! She didn’t like orchids at all in the past. You should remember that there were hardly any orchids at home when you were young, but look how she started taking care of so many orchids after moving to the suburbs! It’s because her mistress loves orchids! Ha, since I caught her in New York, she could no longer see her lover again, So she could just dump all her longing and yearnings into orchids!”

Justin: “!!!”.

What coherent logic!

If Nora hadn’t told him a moment ago why Iris kept so many orchids, he probably would have really doubted.

But now…

Justin scoffed. “Is that so?”

Herman said, “Yes, everything I’ve said is true. Justin, Dad has cared a lot about you and done a lot for you, so don’t be so distant with me. I know I’ve never shown you any fatherly love, but I can give it to you in the future…”

“I don’t need it.”

Justin dismissed it outright. “Is there anything else you want to say?”

Herman said, “I want to visit your grandmother tomorrow, she is my mother after all. Tell the guards at home to let me in.”

Justin scoffed. “Nice try. You can forget about getting into Hunt Manor for the rest of your life.”

He wanted to hang up after saying that, but Herman yelled, “Justin, Justin! You can’t do that to me! I did all that for you! You refuse to let me in, but you let Iris in! Tell me, has Iris cheated on you? Has she been badmouthing me all these years? It doesn’t matter, I’m still your father… toot… toot… toot…”

Justin hung up the phone on him.

Herman had called him just to sow discord between him and his mother, to slowly work his way into the Hunt’s.

In the villa.

Herman stared at the phone with a frown after Justin hung up on him. He couldn’t help but curse, “That brat! Why is he so stubborn?”.

Lauren looked at him, “Is the reason you just said true?”.

Herman scoffed and said, “Half of it is, I guess.”

Lauren rolled her eyes immediately. “Aren’t you afraid Iris will tell him the truth? Then you’ll have an even harder time repairing your relationship with him.”

Herman said confidently, “She won’t.”

Lauren was taken aback.

Herman scoffed at himself and said, “Because if she does, it will bring big trouble for your son. That’s why he’ll never tell.”

Only after Iris and Mrs. Landis had made a total of six plates did the three of them finally sit down.

Iris wanted Mrs. Landis to eat with them, but Mrs. Landis took her food and went to the kitchen instead of eating at the same table with them.

When the three of them sat down, Justin stared at Iris. Suddenly, her phone rang.

She was puzzled for a moment, as she didn’t seem to expect anyone to call her.

But when she looked at the phone, it turned out to be an unfamiliar number….

Iris’s hand began to tremble and she rejected the call immediately.

However, the other party insisted and kept calling.

Iris became evidently nervous. She stared at the phone, as if the caller came from the depths of hell itself.
