Noraâs feline eyes twinkled as she listened to her. Then, she raised an eyebrow and asked, âWhy do you say that?â.
By then, Lisa had already continued talking angrily. Even so, her voice still sounded tender when she said, âUncle Henry found out Iâm going to New York for my internship, so he came to our house today, told my mother and me to come to you for money. He even said he wonât make life easy for you if you refuse, is there anyone who would treat his daughter like that?â
Nora laughed softly and asked, âAre you coming to New York?â
Lisa sounded disappointed as she said, âYesâ¦. Both Angela and I are going to New York. Iâ¦am going to do an internship, while she is going to apply for a graduate position at New York Medical School. The reason Iâm calling you is to tell you this.â
He was probably worried that Angela would give him trouble after arriving in New York.
However, Nora didnât take it seriously. Instead, she asked, âDo you need me to arrange accommodations for you?â
âNo, thatâs fine. Iâve already booked a hotel room.â
Nora didnât insist. âOkay.â
It was almost time for the interview, so she didnât say anything else after telling him to look her up if he ran into any problems. After hanging up, her expression turned cold. Her eyes were downcast and her emotions were unreadable.
Henry had probably treated her badly due to her stepmother marrying into the family, as well as the fact that she had been slowly gaining weight, so it was embarrassing to bring her around, wasnât it?
However, Lisaâs âI suspect youâre not Uncle Henryâs daughterâ couldnât help but keep echoing in her mind.
It seemed she had to find an opportunity to do a DNA test soon.
Logan approached her. She was wearing a set of black sportswear and white limited edition sneakers, and her short hair was tousled. He looked up at her with his feline eyes so like hers and asked impatiently, âAre you coming or not?â
Nora took Cherryâs hand and followed him leisurely. She shuffled her feet lazily as she walked, giving the impression that she was a very careless person.
When the two of them reached the garage, she came across a flashy yellow sports car parked there: it was actually a Ferrari!
Nora raised her eyebrows and unconsciously let out a whistle.
During the last few days at the Andersonsâ, she had already become aware of their financial situation.
The Andersons had already gone into decline over the past two decades. Harmonia Pharmacyâs monthly sales volume hovered around $1.5 million. For large companies managing funds of up to tens or hundreds of millions of dollars, it was really meager.
Find your imagination at galn ovels ; con The market value of most of the cars owned by the Andersons also ranged from $300,000 to $500,000.
Loganâs sports car, however, was a limited edition. The value of the car was enough to buy a villa.
Neither Simon nor Melissa were people who overindulged their children, so they certainly couldnât be the ones who had bought the Ferrari. Besides, neither could the Andersons afford it eitherâ¦.
Therefore, this unassuming cousin of theirs had to be the real hidden big boss of the Andersons, right?
âHeâs so cool!â
Cherry circled the sports car. She touched the headlights with her little hand, turned to look at Nora and said, âMom, I want to buy a sports car when I grow up, too! I want a pink one.â
Nora smiled and replied nonchalantly, âSure.â
When Logan saw that both mother and daughter had the courage to say what they said, he couldnât help but scoff.
He slid into the driverâs seat gently and said, âGet in.â
Nora was a little speechless. â⦠Are you going to drive us there in this car?â.
Logan frowned impatiently and said, âGet in if I tell you. Whatâs the point of all this superfluous nonsense?â
If he didnât take them up there in this car, how was he going to restrain those people in the garden?
The car was exactly the reason Melissa had called him home.
It was her precious treasure.
Even Sheril wasnât allowed to sit in it usually.
She turned to see that both Nora and Cherry had stepped back. They said in unison:
âNo way!â
âDefinitely no way!â
Logan lifted his chin slightly. The two of them had a very good eye for things, huh.
In fact, not just anyone was qualified enough to sit in the passenger seat of this car. It was understandable if they were nervous or scared.
However, since her mother had made the request, she wasnât such a mean person either. She was about to say something when Nora said, âThis car is too ugly!â.
A soft, tender Cherry agreed. âMomâs right! Cherry hates yellow poop, yes!â
Logan was puzzled.
What the hell was âyellow poopâ?
He was about to speak when Nora took Cherryâs hand and climbed into the back seat of a Mercedes Benz. Cherry opened the car window and waved her chubby little arm as she shouted, âHandsome Uncle Logan, come drive this instead!â.
Logan, â!!!â
Those two practically couldnât recognize a good thing when it was put in front of them!
At first he had been heartbroken at the thought of someone sitting in Little Yellow, but now that they were no longer in the car, it turned out to be exactly what he wanted.
In any case, it didnât matter which car they went in, they would fail the kindergarten entrance interview anyway.
By then, Melissa was known in New York as a talented lady. Still, she had failed the interview because of her family background.
Logan got out of the sports car and headed for the Mercedes. As he opened the car door to access the driverâs seat, he said, âYou made the decision yourself. Youâd better not complain that I havenât tried to make them look good.â
It struck Nora that this cousin of hers was rather smug in a nice way. She rubbed her chin and stared at Logan.
Judging by his and Sherilâs age, they were probably just out of college. Sheril didnât come home often because she was always at the pharmaceutical lab, so what was Logan doing then?
Logan felt a little uncomfortable. He got in the car, closed the door and said, âWhat are you looking at, youâve never seen a cute guy before?â
Nora looked up slightly at the Ferrari. Suddenly, she asked, âDo you like racing?â
At the mention of racing, Loganâs eyes lit up.
He started the car and got out. âYes.â
Cherryâs eyes widened and she said, âUncle Logan, Mom and I like racing, too! Can you take Cherry and Mom with you when you enter a race next time?â
Logan unconsciously wanted to refuse.
Sheril had also begged him to take her to one before, but he had refused. These two, though⦠He glanced at Nora in the rearview mirror and saw that she was leaning against the seat, apparently asleep.
Then, he thought about how hungry she looked when she ateâ¦.
The attitude her mother maintained towards them was also as if she feared that the two of them would be belittled, thus damaging their self-esteem.
Anyway, it wasnât as if she couldnât take them there and let them have a look.
The words on the tip of Loganâs tongue ended up becoming âOkay.â
Then, he heard Cherry exclaim, âWow, all those men who drive race cars are really good looking! Plus, theyâre wearing super nice clothes!â.
Logan was speechless.
Why did he get the feeling they werenât going there to broaden their horizons, but to see the drivers?
Cherry asked excitedly, âUncle Logan, what position are you usually in at a race?â
The corners of Loganâs lips curved slightly as he replied, âFirst place.â
He spoke not with arrogance or impetuousness, but with a great deal of self-confidence.
Cherry clapped her hands and said, âYouâre awesome, Uncle Logan!â.
After all, this was a topic that interested Logan. So, he ended up talking a little more than usual. He said, âMy accomplishments are nothing. The international runner Yanci is the one who is truly awesome. Heâs my idol.â
Cherry looked at mom when she heard what he said. Then, she whispered, âUncle Logan, Iâm going to tell you a secret, do you know who Yanci is?â
