Chapter 691

The tall, thin John was a little surprised by her question. He answered politely, “Mr. Smith, milady’s name is Jessica.”

Jessica?

Ian frowned. “Is she American?”

John replied, “Yes, she is.”

She was American!

Ian’s heart pounded again. Then he asked, “Is she by any other name?”

“Yes,” John paused and then said, “Her name is also Queenie Schmidt.”

Ian lowered his eyes in disappointment at hearing the unfamiliar name. He stared at the two pieces of jewelry in his hand. Suddenly, he pointed to them and asked, “How did you get these?”

John smiled, “The lady said a friend who had passed away had given it to her. Since today was that friend’s granddaughter’s birthday, she will return it to its original owner.”

A friend who had already passed away had given it to her….

That friend had to be Yvette.

Ian’s disappointment grew even more.

He shook his head, feeling he must have lost his mind.

Although he knew very well that Yvette had already died twenty years ago, as soon as he heard a news item about her, he couldn’t help but wonder if she would still be alive.

He looked down and put the other jewel away in the box.

Then he sighed.

Since he had just recovered, he couldn’t stand for too long. So, Ian turned around, walked up the stairs and headed to the VIP room to rest.

Justin didn’t understand why his father-in-law had suddenly become depressed. He followed him and asked, “Uncle Ian, what’s wrong?”.

Ian waved him away. “It’s nothing. Go back to the party.”

Justin took him by the arm and said, “I’ll take you upstairs, and I’ll also check on Nora along the way.”

Nora hated crowds the most. Besides, she wasn’t the star today, so she’d been hiding upstairs the whole time.

Ian nodded.

But after Justin helped Ian upstairs, he discovered that Nora, who should have been resting in the VIP lounge, wasn’t there….

Where had she gone?

The first floor was extraordinarily lively.

Cherry and Princess Lucy hadn’t seen each other for a long time, so they had a lot to talk to each other about. The way they couldn’t stop talking to each other it was as if they had become conjoined twins.

As for Pete, he was surrounded by the Hunts’ children. He was the future heir to the clan. Besides, he had grown up with them and had also gone to school with them. So even though he was introverted, the group of kids still played with him.

Pete didn’t want to talk to them, so he turned and joined the children in the garden.

The Hunts were celebrating children’s birthdays today, so most of the guests had also brought children of similar age.

The children, led by Mia, didn’t dare bother Cherry and Princess Lucy, so they could only surround Pete.

“Wow, you really look like Cherry!”

Someone reached out their little hand to pinch Pete’s cheek.

Mia smiled shyly and gave Pete a birthday present. “I drew this for you Pete, take a look at it and see if it looks good to you.”

When Pete opened it, he saw that it was a drawing of three children.

Two of the children looked alike. One of them was wearing a white organza dress: it was Cherry.

The other was wearing a little suit: that was Pete.

The shy little girl in the center was none other than Mia.

Mia looked at him and said shyly, “Pete, are the three of us staying together forever?”.

When Pete and Cherry stayed with the Smiths, they had not played with Brandon, but with Mia. The three of them got along very well.

Pete nodded. “Sure!”

“Cherry!”

Brandon, who had been in a state of shock and silence since seeing Pete, suddenly shouted, “So you’re two different people! It’s not because you can cut off your penis, turn into a girl and then have it grow back!”

All: “???”

Pete: “?????”

Brandon lamented, “… And to think I trusted you so much and went on to study how to cut off my penis without pain! I’m lucky I haven’t gotten around to it yet! Sob!”

After a moment of silence, they suddenly burst out laughing.

The children’s laughter was infectious. The whole party was enlivened by their laughter.

In a corner to which no one was paying attention, Xander stood alone and looked around uncomprehendingly.

He didn’t have a single friend here. Other than the three gifts from his relatives, there was no one else here to bring gifts for him.

“Wow, did you see? Princess Lucy gave Cherry a diamond hairpin she made herself, she’s so good with her hands! That hairpin is really pretty!”

“Mia drew a picture for Pete, too! And Brandon gave Pete his favorite airplane!”

“When is my birthday? I want presents too!”

In the kids’ world, how expensive a gift was didn’t matter. What mattered was the amount of sincerity in the little gifts the classmates gave each other.

Xander clenched his jaw.

He clenched his fists tightly.

Suddenly, he wanted so badly to go back, to go back to the basement and lock himself in.

Just as his imagination was running wild, a large, warm hand suddenly stroked his hair.

Xander was taken aback.

He looked back sharply and saw Nora standing behind him.

The woman was very tall and slender. Her almond-shaped eyes were slightly downcast. When she raised her head, the woman pulled her pants up a little with her long, thin, bandaged hands, then slowly squatted down. She rested her chin on her hands, looked down at him at eye level and said, “Happy birthday, precious.”

Xander’s cheeks began to burn slowly.

The woman’s voice was low and sounded cuddly.

This caused his expression to become somewhat embarrassed.

He coughed and said, “Don’t call me that, it’s too corny!”.

Nora laughed. “So what do you want me to call you, baby? Honey? Or baby? Or maybe… Xander?”

Xander rolled his eyes. “You can just call me Xander! Why are you being so flippant? Be serious!”

Nora retracted her smile. Suddenly, she held out her uninjured hand and said, “Hi, Xander. Let me introduce myself. My name is Nora Smith and I’m your mom. Mm, even though I’ve been Cherry’s mom for five years, and Pete’s mom for three months too, I’m still too incompetent a mom. I hope we can get along in the future. By the way, my hobby is sleeping.”

Xander: “?”

The woman was speaking to him with such seriousness that, in turn, it embarrassed him a little.

He paused. Then she suddenly smiled and said, “Hello, Nora Smith, my name is Xander. Although I have a father, it’s like I don’t have one. This is the first time I’ve been someone’s son. Please take care of me.”

One of the little boy’s canine teeth was visible when he smiled, giving him a very adorable look.

Nora stroked his hair. “Yeah, let’s both try hard, okay~?”.

Xander pursed his lips.

The way she talked like she was cajoling little kids sure was silly!

But he didn’t realize that even though he was pursing his lips, there was a smile there too.

During their conversation, Pete suddenly walked up and handed Xander a gift.

Surprised, Xander stared at the box in front of him.

Pete said, “Even though you haven’t recognized us yet, Mom has already told us that you’re our brother. So, happy birthday.”

Xander felt his eyes sting again.

He took the present and said smugly, “Although I haven’t prepared birthday presents for you-”

“Okay, yes!”

Cherry also walked over holding Princess Lucy’s hand. She handed her the little gift she had prepared some time ago and said, “We’re older than you, so we won’t mind. Since you’re the youngest, we’ll give in to you!”.

Xander: “???”

He frowned and immediately got angry. “I’m your older brother!”

Cherry bowed her head. “You’re my little brother! We should be picky about who goes first! Besides, isn’t it great to be a younger brother? Like this, I’ll give in to you!”

Pete also nodded and cooperated with Cherry.

Xander: “!!!”.
