Xander looked at the man in front of him.

He looked a little dazed, and his large dark eyes were full of confusion and bewilderment.

When the man squatted down to talk to him, he looked straight at him. Whenever Papa Trueman spoke to him, he always looked down on him from above, making him feel as if he were giving him orders.

But the tyrant wasn’t like that.

His demeanor made him feel respected.

Xander swallowed hard. He looked back at Pete and suddenly said, “I’ve come to talk to you about my birthday.”

Hearing that, Justin narrowed his eyes and asked, “When is it?”

Xander was about to answer when his phone suddenly rang, interrupting him.

Xander pulled out his phone, on which he saw the word “Dad” on the screen: it was Trueman. He was a little surprised. When he answered the phone, Trueman said, “Did I hear someone bullied you at the Hunts’ house?”

Xander turned and looked at Justin. He smiled and said, “I bit his ear!”.

“Good job.”

Trueman let out a deep chuckle and said, “As expected of the son I raise!”.

His father’s praise made Xander feel accomplished. As soon as he lifted his little chin, he heard Trueman ask, “How did Justin cope after you bit him?”

Xander looked at Justin. Then, his big dark eyes rolled. As if avoiding the question, he replied, “What else can you do? Easily, I guess. Dad, the food here is really good.”

When Trueman heard this, he was silent for a moment. Then, he smiled and said, “If it tastes good, stay there for a few more days.”

Xander nodded. “Okay.”

He had come to an agreement with Trueman before he came. They had agreed that, for the sake of his rabbits, cats and dogs, he would only stay in the United States for a maximum of ten days.

When he first came, he was very reluctant to stay.

But now, just now, she suddenly felt that it would be good to stay here, too.

As soon as the thought formed, I hear Trueman say, “Oh, pass the phone to your father. I want to tell him something and have him take good care of you.”

Although Xander thought it was inappropriate to do that, he had never gone against Trueman’s orders. So, he looked at Justin and said, “Here.”

Justin had been watching him the whole time.

The other time, in the basement, he had heard that Ruth had mistreated him. So, he didn’t know how Trueman treated the boy. But, judging by the way he talked on the phone, it sounded like his relationship with Trueman was pretty good.

Xander was smart. That’s why he was able to intimidate Ruth. Judging by how he and Trueman got along, at the very least, Trueman was probably not abusive to him.

The discovery made Justin feel a little more comfortable. He answered the phone, but not wanting the kids to hear his conversation, he stepped aside and said quietly, “Hello.”

“Mr. Hunt, my sister has died.”

There was a faint sense of amusement in Trueman’s voice when he said that, as if he had never cared whether Ruth lived or died.

Justin lowered his eyes. “Oh? She left the country after I released her. What happened after that has nothing to do with me.”

Needless to say, Ruth had been killed by someone he’d sent.

Child abusers like her should not still be alive in the world.

Besides, when he was in the country, he had also given Nora trouble.

Justin was not a kind soul. There was no doubt that he was a ruthless man.

Trueman laughed and said, “I’m not calling to hold you accountable. Rather, I wanted to tell you that, after all, she has never treated Xander well. I’ve wanted to deal with her for a long time. It’s a shame that the Yale family teachings don’t allow us to do anything to our relatives.”

Justin: “…”

From Trueman’s first contact with him, he already knew that Ruth didn’t care that much for him. Still, he hadn’t expected her to be so unimportant.

From the looks of it, it now seemed more like Trueman was using him to deal with Ruth.

But that didn’t matter.

If it had been before, when Justin felt Ruth was expendable, he might have been angry at being taken advantage of by Trueman. But now, even if he held back and avoided getting too close to Xander before they discovered his birth origin, the things Ruth did to Xander were still unforgivable.

He lowered his eyes. “What are you calling me for?”

Trueman chuckled. “I hear you’re throwing a birthday party for Cherry and Pete. In that case, why don’t you throw it in conjunction with Xander’s?”

Justin narrowed his eyes. “What do you mean?”

Trueman chuckled again. “He means. Xander asked me about his birthday just now, and I told him it’s September 8th. If you don’t take him to the birthday party that day, how do you think he’d feel?”

Justin instead asked, “When exactly is his birthday?”.

“Guess?”

Justin clenched his fists.

Trueman laughed again, “I’m really looking forward to it. If you have to choose between Peter Hunt and Xander, who would you pick?”

Justin suddenly asked, “Is Xander’s mother Nora or not?”

“Tsk.” Trueman licked his lips. However, his words made Justin lower his gaze. “I can say she is, but I can also say she isn’t. Why would you believe anything I say? If I say he is, then my motive may be to get you and Nora to treat him right. But in reality I may be lying to get him to beat Pete and inherit the Hunt estate. If I say he isn’t… Maybe he really is their son? And my goal is nothing more than to get them to treat one better than the other and turn the brothers against each other? Mr. Hunt, I have heard that you are your father’s only son and that you had been selected as heir to the family when you were a child. But between Xander and Pete, who both have high IQs, who would you choose?”

Trueman laughed after saying that. “I’ve already passed the message on to you. As for whether you want to take Xander to the birthday party or not, that’s up to you.”

With that, Trueman hung up.

Justin looked at the phone with a frown.

Trueman’s call had totally interrupted his plans.

He glanced at Xander, only to see that the boy, who had been very distant a moment ago, was looking at him.

The colors of his eyes were clearly defined, and he looked very cute and innocent. He raised his head proudly and said, “Indeed, I was looking for you. I am here to tell you that my birthday is also September 8.”

After Nora left the Hunts’ house, he didn’t go home.

She went straight to the hospital and gave Charles acupuncture.

Half an hour later, a groggy Charles finally woke up.
