Charles clutched his sleeves tightly. The world was already spinning in his vision.
However, he tried his best to calm down and tried to tell her something.
More than twenty years ago, Yvette had told him, Old Maddy and the other man to hide, to make Nora give birth to a baby before her twentieth birthday.
Because this was the only way for her to stay alive.
The three had fled in three different directions. Old Maddy had attracted and endured more attacks from the mysterious organization because of the two of them. Because of this, and because he had received no word from him since then, Charles suspected that he might already be dead.
Old Maddyâs name was not actually Old Maddy. He was known that way because his way of doing things was simply too outrageous. Besides, Yvette trusted him the most. He was also someone capable of throwing his life away for Yvetteâs sake.
After Old Maddy lured more people from the organization, Charles had gone with the other person. He had thought his escape was successful, but he hadnât expected that the mysterious organization would end up catching him.
Charles had been scared at the time. He knew all too well how scary the mysterious organization was. At the time, the mysterious organization had threatened him with his family. In the end, he chose to give in and told them about Yvetteâs plansâ¦.
After that, the mysterious organization had given him five million dollars. They had only one request for him, and that was to manipulate Noraâs pregnancy and make her give birth to as many children as possible.
After doing all that, the mysterious organization knew he was no longer useful, so they began to hunt him down. During his escape, he met Jessica Stewart. To reward her for saving his life, she had given him the miracle medicine that could help a woman give birth to triplets.
He knew very well what the mysterious organization wanted, so how could he let Nora fall for their tricks?
With that thought in mind, Charles suddenly smiled. He looked at Nora and said firmly, âYou have given birth to twins, not triplets.â
Almost as soon as he said that, her vision faded and she passed out.
In the last moments before passing out, he spoke to himself:
âMiss Nora can and must only give birth to twins. The existence of one more child would be a catastrophe for her.
Besides, the triplets were clearly a trap that the mysterious organization had set for her. How could she allow the mysterious organization to succeed?â After saying that, as if she had completed her lifeâs mission, she closed her eyes and said what she thought would be the last words she would utter in this life: âMiss Nora, you donât have to save me.â
His life would probably come to an abrupt end at that point, right?
Back then, for the sake of his family, he had betrayed Yvette. But later, his family had contracted a disease and died anyway. Her illness was incurable, but he knew that Yvetteâs medical skills had been the pinnacle of the industry back then. If she had still been around, maybe she could have saved his family?
It was fate, he supposed.
And now, at last, he could repay his debt to Yvette with his life.
Twins, not triplets?
Nora was dumbfounded and incredulous.
After doing a DNA test and discovering that Xanderâs genes were 80% similar to her own, she could basically confirm Xanderâs identity.
Because complete strangers would never have such a high degree of similarity in their DNA.
That was why she had told Justin that there was a 90% chance he was her son. To be honest, at the time she had more or less convinced herself that she had given birth to triplets.
But Charles was telling her that she didnât have triplets.
How⦠How could this happen?
But, at the same time, she felt a sudden sense of closure.
Indeed, triplets were originally just her and Justinâs guess. It was also the best possible outcome for Xander. Neither of them wanted the other to have to suffer through having someone elseâs child in their family.
Now that it had been confirmed, why was he so sad?
Nora lowered her gaze and stared at the man in front of her. For some reason, she suddenly found herself very unhappy with the answer.
She watched as the doctors approached them; she watched as everyone else approached Charles; and she watched as he began bleeding from his nose, eyes, ears and mouthâ¦.
People who suffered internal bleeding-and, moreover, those whose symptoms suddenly erupted in a short period of time-were very difficult to save.
Charles knew this, too.
Howeverâ¦
Nora suddenly stepped forward and followed the gurney to the operating room.
As she made her way there, she stared at Charles.
She wasnât going to let him die, because she wasnât satisfied with his answer.

The next day.
When a tired Nora came out of the operating room, she immediately saw Old Maddy, who was standing outside the operating room and staring at the door. As soon as the door opened, Old Maddy stood up. The man in the hospital gown asked nervously, âMiss Nora, I just heard that Charles has been in a traffic accident. How is he?â
Nora rubbed her temples and yawned sleepily. She looked at Old Maddy and suddenly replied, âHeâll be fine.â
Old Maddy breathed a sigh of relief.
But at the same time, he looked at her nervously and asked, âSo, have you asked her if youâve given birth to twins or triplets?â
âYes, I have.â replied Nora.
Old Maddy looked at her nervously. âSo, have you given birth toâ¦?â.
Seeing the anxiety in Old Maddyâs eyes, Nora was quiet for a moment before finally responding lazily, âHe said Iâve given birth to twins.â
âThatâs great!â
Old Maddy let out a huge sigh of relief at hearing that. However, he seemed to notice that her reaction was a bit inappropriate.
Nora wanted to ask about it, but Old Maddy suddenly avoided the subject and said, âMiss Nora, to be honest, I shouldnât have saved Charles. I just found out that he betrayed Miss Yvette back in the day, whatâs the point of saving a man like him?â.
After saying that angrily, without waiting for Nora to ask him more, he turned and walked back to his living room. He said, âGosh, Iâve gotten old. Iâve just recovered, Iâm going back to rest.â
Nora stared at him from behind.
Old Maddy and Charles must be keeping something from her, and it had to do with her having given birth to twins or triplets. For some reason, it seemed that Old Maddy really hoped she didnât give birth to triplets.
She frowned.
At that moment, Lily came out.
When Nora was operating on Charles, Lily had been her assistant throughout the operation. Lily, who was very knowledgeable about Noraâs family affairs, asked, âChief, should I go ahead with the DNA restoration?â
Nora was silent for a long moment. After thinking for a while, in the end, she still said, âYes, go ahead.â
She knew that Charles â and also Old Maddy â seemed to care about her and wanted to protect her. Because of that, they hadnât told her some things.
But she was no longer the baby then who needed to be protected.
She had grown up and was strong and powerful enough.
She could take care of everything on her own.
With that in mind, she followed Old Maddy unhurriedly into her living room. Old Maddy could only look at her helplessly. âMiss Nora,â he said.
Nora sat down on the couch and rubbed her forehead, somewhat sleepy and extremely impatient that she had not rested. She said slowly, âI want the truth-why do you two want me to have twins?â
Old Maddy sighed and replied, âMiss Nora, itâs not that we are wishing it, but that you have indeed given birth to twins. Didnât Charles already say so? He wasnât with you then.â
Old Maddy was really unaware of the childrenâs situation.
Howeverâ¦
Nora suddenly changed the subject. âWhat exactly are you hiding from me?â
Her words made Old Maddy choke on his breath.
She began to ponder again.
Nora was in no hurry. She could sense that Old Maddy harbored no hostility toward her. He really was very loyal to her mother.
She said slowly, âI want to know the truth.â
Old Maddyâs jaw tensed and he said, âMiss Yvette left you a voice recording before she died. You must have listened to it over and over again, right?â.
Nora nodded.
Old Maddy then said earnestly, âMiss Yvette said before you got strong enough, there are some things I canât tell you.â
Hearing this, Nora lowered the leg she had crossed over the other.
She rested her hands on the armrest of the couch. Her feline eyes sparkled and she was filled with self-confidence as she said, âIâm strong enough already.â
Old Maddy sighed. âMiss Nora, there are many strong and powerful people in the world. I know your medical skills are the best in the world. In fact, you can even say that you are already on par with Miss Yvette. But even so, she was no match for the mysterious organization, because she was too obsessed with medicine back then, and ended up not pursuing anything else. However, a truly powerful person has to be impressive in all aspects. For example, martial arts? I wonât compare you to your predecessors. I heard that the most powerful martial artists today are Senior Brother of Irvin Martial Arts School and Senior Sister of Quinn Martial Arts School. Can you beat them in a fight?â
Nora: â???â
âAnother example would be todayâs most popular and fashionable things: computers. After waking up, I discovered that society has undergone drastic changes in the last two decades. Computers were not common back then, but now there are hackers everywhere. I heard that the most impressive hackers now are Q and Y. Can you surpass them in computer skills?â
Nora: â?????â
Seeing that Noraâs expression had frozen, old Maddy thought his words were having an effect, so he continued to persuade her conscientiously. He said, âLetâs not talk about that know-how anymore, but only about the escape. I recently learned that the most impressive international runner is Yanci. If he is in danger, can he drive fast enough? Yanci can escape danger, but can you?â.
Nora: â?????â
Old Maddy continued. âEveryone is an expert in only one type of technical skill. There is also one more absolute thing: in this world there is the most powerful organization, the Imperial League. Have you heard of it? There are only a dozen people in the organization, AND each of them is a great figure who can cause chaos with a wave of his hand! The world economic crisis of the 1970s was caused by none other than the Imperial League! Only when you join the Imperial League will you be able to truly take on the mysterious organization, but Miss Nora, can you do it?â
Nora: ââ¦â
If you didnât go into details, you wouldnât even realize that you had so many secret identities.
Old Maddy continued. âThere will always be someone better. Miss Yvette was too arrogant, which led to her downfall in the end. If you can accomplish those things I just mentioned, then I will admit that you are strong enough, in which case, then I will tell you the truth.â
