Nora picked up the phone and looked at Cherry. After a momentâs thought, she gave her a reminder. âDonât intimidate the boy.â
Cherry nodded at once, the spitting image of a well-behaved girl. She replied, âDonât worry, Mom! Xander and I will get along just fine.â
For some reason, seeing how she behaved, Nora wasnât entirely convinced.
But if Cherry refused to say it, then she couldnât force her, could she?
So she obediently let Cherry stay in the room while she went out. When she did, she happened to bump into Justin, who was coming out of Xanderâs room. When the two met, Nora raised her eyebrows and asked, âHowâd it go?â
Justin looked a little uncomfortable. âHe told me heâs getting along great with Cherry and not to worry.â
Nora: ââ¦â
Obviously, she had seen the two little ones being uncomfortable with each other, so how was it possible that they were getting along?
But they were both refusing to tell the truth?
âDo you believe him?â she asked.
Justin was silent for a while before suddenly answering, âWhether kids are meant to get along or not is out of our hands. There are siblings who have trouble getting along. It shouldnât be forced.â
I feared that Nora would tell Cherry to treat Xander better, which might cause the children to rebel.
Nora had always taken an easy, stress-free approach to parenting.
If Cherry liked to play, she let her play.
Of course, this was also due to Cherryâs unique character. It would not be possible for other children to become as addicted to play as Cherry. However, Cherryâs IQ was very high. She had to use games and play with Barbie dolls to calm her hyperactive brain.
As Justin had put it this way, she nodded and left the Hunt mansion.
As she was walking down the stairs, she suddenly turned and looked back, seeing a small head quickly snap back into Xanderâs room, as if afraid to be seen by her.
Nora withdrew her gaze, though a faint indescribable emotion welled up in her.
However, she quickly repressed the emotion.
She did not want her judgment to be affected by her emotions. Before she could be sure if Xander was her son or not, it was best that she have less contact with him, lest she develop feelings for him. If that happened, things would become problematic.
She wasnât the only one who thought that way. As Justin escorted her to the parking lot, even he himself suddenly said calmly, âFor Trueman to return the child so easily, and yet not for the purpose of saving Ruth, something must be wrong. Although it is very likely, from a DNA standpoint, that Xander is our son, until we can confirm it, we must not be soft-hearted.â
Nora, who knew what he meant, nodded.
After leaving Justinâs villa, she began to drive out of the mansion. However, someone stopped her as she was leaving. With a frown, Nora stopped the car and looked at the Huntsâ housekeeper who had stopped her.
The housekeeper looked at her with a smile. She said, âMiss Smith, Mrs. Hunt invites you into her home.â
Nora looked down and smiled suddenly. âIâm sorry, but Iâm not available.â
As soon as she said that, the housekeeperâs expression changed instantly.
She looked at Nora with surprise, seeing a glint of indifference welling up in the womanâs feline eyes. She started the car and moved forward.
Fanny, the housekeeper, had been working for Mrs. Hunt for many years and had been taking care of the Hunt mansion for several decades. She was well respected in the mansion, and even Justin generally treated her with a little more courtesy than the others.
Fanny hadnât expected Nora to be so rude to her!
The sexagenarian Fanny frowned. Just as she was about to speak, she realized that Nora was really leaving. She could only turn away and say, âMiss Smith, please wait a moment. Iâm doing this for your sake. I doubt you want to put Pete on the spot, do you?â.
Nora: â?â
She let off the accelerator. The car stopped.
Fanny followed alongside the car and continued. âMiss Smith, you donât want to keep taking things so seriously with the missus like this. After all, she is your eldest. If you give in, Iâm sure madam wonât make things difficult for you either. For example, Mr. Livingstoneâs illness this time. If you take the initiative to cure Thomasâ illness, and get the baby-making formula from the Stewarts-you will have done them a big favor this time, so they will definitely give in-you will be the Livingstonesâ benefactor. The lady will definitely remember what youâve done for them. That way, Pete wonât have to be stuck between his great-grandmother and his mother, too, right?â
Nora knew. Fanny must have come to her to deal with Thomasâs condition.
She scoffed and looked at Fanny. âYou want me to treat Thomasâs condition? Sure.â
Seeing her give in so easily, Fanny smiled and said, âI knew Miss Smith was a smart person. Iâm sure she wonât want to make things difficult for Mr. Hunt either. In that case, when will you be able to treat Mr. Livingstoneâs illness?â
Nora replied nonchalantly, âOh, Iâm not sure about that because youâll have to get an appointment. You can contact my assistant and talk to her about it.â
After saying this, she immediately stepped on the accelerator. The car lurched forward, sending dust flying in Fannyâs face!
Fanny: ââ¦â
It was then that she realized she had been tricked.
If she went to her assistant to get an appointment, who knows how long they would have to wait!
Everyone knew how good Antiâs medical skills were, so everyone went to her for medical consultations. However, Anti was only accepting two patients a month, so there was a huge queue with Lily at the moment.
Thomas really wanted to have his illness treated. However, Mrs. Hunt had already made people ask around: if they really wanted to join the queue, they would have to wait at least ten years.
By then, Thomas would be nearly forty years old. What was the point then of having his illness treated?
Fanny stamped her foot hard.
When she returned to the villa, Old Mrs. Hunt sighed. She said, âI shall be owing her a great deal this time. Good heavens! Never mind, if she behaves well in the future, Iâll stop putting her on the spot!â
But as soon as he said that, he saw a worried-looking Fanny.
Elder Mrs. Hunt was taken aback. âDidnât she agree to treat him?â
Fanny nodded.
Elder Mrs. Hunt hit the couch angrily, and her expression turned instantly hideous. She clutched her chest, so angry she couldnât breathe for a moment. Fanny rushed over to give her a Zabe Corporation Soothing Pill. Shortly after taking it, she felt like she could breathe again. She said, âHow dare you refuse! This is so maddening.â
Elder Mrs. Hunt took a deep breath. âHow dare he disrespect me over and over again? It seems I really need to teach him a lesson.â

Nora didnât realize that she had infuriated Elder Mrs. Hunt. By then she had arrived at the hospital.
Lily was waiting for her at the door.
Nora asked, âWhen did she recover?â.
Lily lowered her voice and said, âActually, he was already showing signs of it two days ago. She had stopped making noise or fussing, so I think she had probably recovered by that time. Then he seemed more like he was observing his surroundings and seemed to be full of hostility. He hadnât said he wanted to see you until today.â
Nora nodded and walked into the living room with Lily.
Old Maddy was sitting up in bed. The burns on his face gave him an extraordinarily frightening appearance. His whole face was flattened with two holes in the area where his eyes were supposed to be. There were also two holes in his nose, and his outer lips were missing. He was completely disfigured.
Before, when he was insane, he looked a little more pleasing to the eye. But now that he was no longer insane and had calmed down, he looked more terrifying.
If a child came into the room and saw him, he would probably burst into tears from fright.
When Nora entered the room, Old Maddy stared at her with his beady eyes. A good while later, he sighed and said, âYou really look alike â too much alike! You practically look just like Yvette.â
Nora didnât care about that. She immediately voiced her biggest concern at the time. âLast time, you said I needed to have children. In that case, did I give birth to twins or triplets?â
