Chapter 635

Not even an ordinary person would have been able to starve a four-year-old for an entire week.

Even he, Justin, had never abused Xander after meeting the boy, despite how much he hated Trueman.

Ruth was scared out of her wits at Justin’s words. She swallowed hard. “What are you saying? I’m his mother. If you don’t believe me, ask Xander.” Xander stood to the side and looked at Justin in confusion. He didn’t understand why Justin had suddenly walked in, or why he was so angry all of a sudden.

But he kept thinking about the instructions Trueman had given him before he came to America.

He had told him to cooperate with Ruth. He would serve as long as he did not expose his identity.

That was why, after arriving in the United States, he had not once called Ruth ‘Aunt Ruth’. However, Ruth’s question at that moment put him in a bind. He did not want to tell lies as if Ruth were his mother.

The little boy, in an internal struggle, said, “She…”

“Shut up!” shouted Justin suddenly under his breath. The man had a very powerful aura around him and gave off a very oppressive feeling. In this small, dark basement, he was clearly the king of this world, dominating one’s life and death!

Those two words of his frightened Xander.

Then, the man said quietly, “Where is the butler?”

“Here, sir.”

“Take Xander upstairs and put him on the bed.”

“Yes, sir.”

Without another word, the butler took Xander in his arms and left the basement immediately.

For the first time, Xander was startled. Puzzled, he turned his head toward the back and looked at Justin’s back. Evidently, the figure was getting farther and farther away from him, but to his eyes it was as if, on the contrary, it was getting bigger and bigger….. This continued until the butler walked out the door with him in his arms and then up the stairs.

When he was sure that Xander had entered his room, Justin finally looked at Ruth.

Then, he turned and closed the basement door.

Ruth looked at him, with a hint of despair suddenly rising in her….

She asked uneasily, “Mr. Hunt, what…what are you doing?”

“Sending you home.”

The terrible screams from the basement were blocked by the soundproof walls.

In the upstairs guest room, Xander lay on the bed with his eyes closed. However, he pressed his ears tightly against the bed and tried to listen carefully for sounds from downstairs, but he simply couldn’t hear anything.

The little boy couldn’t help but roll over.

Then, he opened his eyes.

Had the tyrant suddenly become angry because of him?

Surely not?

It was obvious that the tyrant didn’t like him. Trueman had also said that the tyrant was in love with a woman. He would not like her for that woman’s sake as well.

Therefore, the tyrant disliked him very much.

But if that was the case, why was the tyrant punishing Aunt Ruth?

Xander couldn’t understand it, so he decided not to think about it anymore.

That night, Xander had another nightmare.

In the nightmare, a big tiger was chasing him and saying it wanted to eat him and his rabbits. He ran and ran, but he couldn’t run anymore.

Just when he thought he was going to be eaten, a large, tall figure suddenly appeared in front of him.

He could not see the tall figure’s face because its back was turned to him, but for some strange reason, in the dream, the figure seemed very reliable to him, and it gave him a strong sense of security.

Early the next morning Nora took Pete and Cherry to the Hunts’ mansion.

As soon as they entered, Cherry flung herself into Justin’s arms like a butterfly. In her young, tender voice, she cried out, “Daddy, Daddy! Did you miss me?”

Justin grabbed the little girl and lifted her up. Then, he replied, “Yes, I did.”

Cherry immediately gave him a kiss on the forehead. “I missed you too! I’ve even dreamed about you.”

“Really?”

Justin sounded pleasantly surprised. “What did you dream?”

Cherry began to talk about her dream. Pete was still standing beside the two of them with a disdainful look on his face, his expression as if he had nothing left to live for. At that moment, Justin’s large hand suddenly landed on his head and ruffled his hair.

Pete immediately lowered his head and avoided the hand. He said, “Ti… Dad, you mustn’t touch the children’s heads. Otherwise, they will become stupid.”

But Justin instead replied, “Well, you have a high IQ anyway, so it’s okay even if you get a little stupid.”

Justin then looked back.

Nora was shuffling her feet and yawning as she walked behind the three of them. She obviously hadn’t gotten enough sleep yet. He asked, “What time did you sleep last night?”

Nora rolled her eyes. “It’s because I got up so early today.”

Had she gotten up early so she could come see him?

Justin smiled.

Suddenly he stopped half a step. As Nora approached him, he said, “I’ve been taking care of Ruth.”

Taken care of her?

Nora was a little surprised. “What have you done to her? The special department still has its eyes on Ruth and is planning to run leads through her.”

Justin asked, “If Ruth really knew anything integral to the organization, do you think someone like Trueman would have allowed her to come to the United States?”

Nora also thought that Trueman didn’t care about Ruth at all.

Hearing this, she uttered an “oh” and didn’t bother with the subject any more. She said, “But don’t give the special department anything they can use against you.”

“Of course not. I don’t do anything illegal.”

Justin said, “I just sent her home.”

Ruth’s home was overseas. It had nothing to do with him if she was killed in a robbery out of the country.

Nora: “…”

Now she understood. She lifted her head and looked up. Then, she looked at both Cherry and Pete and asked, “Where is Xander?”

She wondered what kind of scene the three children would show.
