Chapter 631

Mrs. Stewart was even more enraged to hear this. She clutched her chest, unable to speak.

Helen was crying beside her.

Her father was not at home, so the two Stewart women were obviously suppressed in their impulse.

As Nora was about to step forward, Jessica, who was at her side, abruptly stepped forward and said loudly, “Mrs. Livingstone, that’s not right! What do you mean, Thomas didn’t cheat on you? Isn’t the child in your womb Thomas’s? Didn’t Thomas have sexual relations with another woman while married?”

Mrs. Livingstone immediately choked up.

Jessica continued. “My little sister has not given birth to any children, but are women mere instruments for making babies? Are you saying that the union of the Livingstones and the Stewarts was for the sole purpose of having children? If so, why didn’t they turn to surrogate mothers instead? What’s the point of having Helen there? Also, do you have any medical proof that my little sister is infertile? This is a complete hoax. If you can’t produce a medical report, I will sue you for slander!”

Jessica was very aggressive, like a hen protecting her chicks. She stepped in front of her mother and Helen, blocked Mrs. Livingstone’s way.

Mrs. Livingstone seemed to be a little afraid of Jessica. She unconsciously stepped back and said, “No matter what, they have to divorce!”

“Divorce? Sure, but they have to give my little sister the compensation she deserves. You can’t play games with the Stewarts either.”

After responding angrily to Mrs. Livingstone, Jessica looked at Helen and said, “What’s the use of crying when your husband has already cheated on you? Times have changed, can’t you even defend yourself? Helen, I’m telling you, you have to divorce him! Do you intend to stay with that man so he can bring you more illegitimate children?”

The sobbing Helen nodded. “I’ll do as you say, Jessica.”

She was completely heartbroken.

When she married, everyone had said that she had been truly blessed to be able to marry the Livingstones. Given the close relationship the Livingstones and the Hunts shared, surely she would like to have a good life in the future.

But who knew Thomas would actually be an insect?

Mrs. Livingstone scoffed, “Jessica, what do you mean by that? We Livingstones are decent people, we are not people who indulge in casual relationships! We don’t want just any random woman.” Jessica scoffed, “Oh, really? Considering how you can accept even someone like Cecelia, the Livingstones’ standards for women are really too low!”

Mrs. Livingstone wanted to continue the discussion about Cecelia, but suddenly realized something. She scoffed, “The problem is not Cecelia at this point, but Helen’s infertility. Besides, she’s even conspired with a doctor to blame it on my son! But too bad for her, because Cecelia is pregnant, which just happens to clear my son’s name! On the other hand, even though it’s been three years since Helen married into the Livingstones, she hasn’t gotten pregnant once, so the problem must be hers. If that’s the case, this marriage should be annulled! When the two of them got engaged back then, we had agreed that whoever did something wrong after the marriage would receive a smaller portion of the joint financial assets! Therefore, Helen can only leave the Livingstones penniless!”

Cecelia was pregnant.

The timing was simply too delicate.

If the news spread, everyone would surely know that Thomas had cheated on his wife. If that happened, he would no longer be able to hold his head high in New York’s circle of the wealthy.

That was why Mrs. Livingstone had come to make a scene. In the first place, because the community property of a married couple was really difficult to divide. Secondly, because she must not allow her son to be known as someone who had mistreated his ex-wife.

He should not allow his son to become the main reason for the failure of the marriage.

Jessica let out a contemptuous laugh. Suddenly, she narrowed her eyes and said, “We are all respectable people who do not wish to be embarrassed. The Stewarts will not ask the Livingstones for a single cent more than is due. However, alimony must be given because you made Helen quit her job after she married Thomas. Because of that, she now has a three-year unemployment gap in her career!” Mrs. Livingstone scoffed, “So, what about the money the Livingstones gave the Stewarts when they married then?”

The Livingstones had given them a large sum of money as a wedding gift.

By saying that, Mrs. Livingstone was demanding even that sum of money back, even though it had been given to her as a gift.

Jessica was about to speak when Helen suddenly looked at Thomas. “Thomas, what is the meaning of this?”

Thomas curved his lips in disdain and replied, “My mother’s will is also mine! You’ve seemed so dull to me for a long time! You don’t even move in bed. It really wasn’t any fun.”

Helen grew paler. Finally, she lowered her head and said, “Fine, fine…. I’ll pay you back all the money the Livingstones gave us!”.

A surprised Jessica looked at her sharply. “Helen, what kind of nonsense are you talking?

If they gave that money back, what would outsiders think?

Why didn’t they take any money from the Livingstones during the divorce? Why did they even give them money instead?

Of course, it would be because they had done something wrong!

People often didn’t care about the details, they only looked at the results. Nor would they think Helen was being generous. Instead, they would think Helen must have done something to let the Livingstones down.

However, Helen shook her head. “Jessica, I just want to get a divorce as soon as possible.”

She didn’t want to be entangled with him any longer.

She would simply cut the Gordian knot. This way, she would be able to go home and live a carefree life!

As she seemed to have understood the meaning of his words, Jessica said no more.

Mrs. Livingstone scoffed, “Helen, are you feeling guilty? Well, that makes sense. We won’t hold you responsible for wasting my son’s time either. We’ll leave it at that. I just hope it doesn’t bother my son.”

After that, Mrs. Livingstone, Thomas and Helen agreed on a time and date when they would come to pick up the money, as well as when they would sign the divorce papers.

After all the arrangements were made, before the two left, Mrs. Livingstone emphasized once again, “Helen, the Livingstones won’t hold it against you or your family this time! But remember this, the divorce is because of your infertility. It has nothing to do with the Livingstones.”

Thomas nodded. “Yes, it does. Remember this: it’s me, Thomas, who doesn’t love you anymore!”

After saying that, Mrs. Livingstone and Thomas left.

As they left, Helen squatted on the floor and suddenly burst into heart-rending sobs. She clutched her head and murmured, “I’m so useless. Why couldn’t I get pregnant? Why? I’m so useless…”.

Only then did Nora finally step forward. She said, “It’s not your fault.”
