They both stared at the phone.
The butler pulled Xander out of the elevator.
He was swaying back and forth as he walked, without any calmness or steadiness. His eyes darted from side to side as he assessed his surroundings.
This basement was built especially for interrogations, so it was dark and dank. If a normal kid went in, heâd probably be afraid of the dark, but Xander seemed fine.
He was pretty daring. Justin sighed quietly in his heart. If it was his son, he hadnât embarrassed him.
As he thought, he saw Xander enter the interrogation room.
Justin switched cameras and looked around the interrogation room. The furnishings inside were no different than before. The only change was that Ruth had slumped in a corner.
Perhaps because she hadnât eaten in five days, she was very weak. She wasnât dead, however, because there was still water in the basement.
Nora raised her eyebrows. âShe took good care of herself.â
Justin said, âShe washes her face and rinses her mouth every morning. She obviously has a strong psychological quality.â
Indeed, she was well trained.
The two were thinking about this when Ruth slowly raised her head. Seeing Xander, her eyes sparkled with pleasant surprise. âLittle Xander! Have you brought⦠food for mom? Bring it to me quick.â
Xander tossed a bag.

Ruth hurried to catch the bag and search inside. After searching for a while, she saw that there were only a few rotten leaves and a carrot in the bag. She instantly became furious. âXander!â
She bit her lip. âYouâre getting revenge on me now that Iâm in this condition, arenât you?â
Revenge? Those two words made Justin and Nora look at each other.
Xander held up his hands. âThereâs nothing I can do. This is the Huntsâ house. Justin wouldnât let me bring food for you. Itâs bad enough I can steal them.â
When Ruth heard this, she immediately said angrily, âHeâs too inhuman! How can he be so heartless to a woman? Canât he give me something to eat? Heâs just evil.â
Justin, who was staring at his phone and inexplicably taking the blame, was speechless. Nora snorted and laughed-this kid was pretty interesting!
Ruth actually thought it was Justinâs command, so she didnât care anymore and pulled out a carrot to eat.
After not eating for a few days, he ate the carrots exceptionally well.
After finishing a carrot, he looked at Xander. âGo get me another one.â
Xander shook his head. âJustin is a big demon king. His people have been watching me the whole time. I only got it because I cried, threw a tantrum, and hung myself three times. He only agreed to give you a carrot every day. Tomorrow I will steal more vegetable leaves for you.â
Ruth: â!â
Ruth still wanted to say something, but Xander said, âOh, Iâm going upstairs. He asked me to just stay here for a minute.â
With that, he turned and ran upstairs.
Ruth was anxious. âXander, when did he say heâd let me out?â
Xander ignored her. Seeing that the boy was about to run off, Ruth became even more anxious. She got to her feet, but, unfortunately, her legs were too weak. She collapsed to the ground and could only shout angrily, âXander, donât forget what my brother said to you when you came here!â
âI remember, I remember!â Xander waved his hand. âDonât worry! Dad also asked me to tell you to stay here quietly. Youâre not going to die.â
Ruth: ââ¦â
As Xander left, Justin switched off the video surveillance.
The two looked at each other.
Although Xander didnât say anything unexpected, they could tell something was wrong Nora didnât bother to speak. Justin said, âWhen Ruth saw little Xander, her first words were a little cutting as she referred to herself as his mother. Although she wasnât wrong, she was a little hesitant. This meant that little Xander didnât call her mother when she was overseas.â
Even though Ruth had trained, she had been hungry for five days after all. Even if she reminded herself to be careful when she saw Xander, her reaction would be slow because her brain was starved of glucose.
Nora agreed with Justin and nodded.
Justin suddenly asked, âWhat do you think the likelihood is that Little Xander is our son?â
Nora was silent for a moment.
This man didnât even realize that his address for Xander had already changed to Little Xander.
He really liked this son, huh?
Nora lowered her eyes slightly and smiled suddenly. â90%â.
When Justin heard this figure, his eyes suddenly lit up.
Nora said slowly, âDNA comparison between strangers is usually only 23%. 84% is really very high.â
Even if their genes had changed, they couldnât have changed that much.
Justin took a deep breath.
Nora was about to say something when the butler standing next to Elder Mrs. Hunt approached. âMiss Smith, Mrs. Hunt has heard that you are here. She happens to be unwell and wants me to take a look at you.â
Nora raised her eyebrows.
Justin said, âDidnât Grandma take her meds today â isnât she well?â
The butler sighed. âBest to let Miss Smith take a look. Sir, donât worry. Mrs. Hunt is very worried about Miss Smith at the moment.â
Justin still wanted to refuse, but the butler said, âSir, this is to treat Mrs. Huntâs illness. After all, there is a difference between men and women. Besides, someone from Mrs. Huntâs family has arrivedâ¦â
As soon as he said this, Justin understood something. He looked at Nora and immediately pushed her away. He sighed. âI know whatâs going on. Grandma hasnât asked you to come and treat her illness. She wants you to treat the wife of her grandnephewâs wife from the maternal family.â
Nora: â?â
The nephewâs wife⦠Their relationship was a bit complicated!
Justin added: âThat wife has a more difficult life. She was good to Pete in the past, soâ¦â Nora understood now.
The reason Justin told her this was because he didnât want to keep her in the dark.
But the decision was hers.
However, that wife was good to Pete. Besides, treating a patient was a simple matter to her. It was no big deal. So, she said, âIâll go take a look.â
Justin nodded and quietly reminded her, âItâs a gynecological problem, so I wonât stop by.â
Nora gave him an âokayâ gesture.
The butler let out a sigh of relief and led Nora out.
Hunt Manor was very large, Justin and Elder Mrs. Hunt did not live together.
After walking for about fifteen minutes, they arrived at the villa where Elder Mrs. Hunt lived. Before Nora entered, she heard a voice from inside. âDoes he really have a son with another woman? And does he look just like Justin? As soon as he walked in, did he say he wanted to take Peteâs job? Thereâs a good show to watch now. Look at that Smith woman, how can she still be so arrogant! Didnât she ignore you because she gave birth to Pete and Cherry? She must be anxious now, right?â
Nora: â?â
Had Xander ever said such things before?
The butler coughed and reminded them that the person in the room had arrived.
Sure enough, the voice from inside paused. Then, someone came out. It was a middle-aged woman, in her late forties or early fifties. She was slightly round.
When she saw Nora, she smiled instantly and approached. âOh, this is Miss Smith, isnât it, you are so beautiful! Iâm Mrs. Huntâs niece-in-law. Iâm her eldest. Call me Mrs. Livingstone.â
The old woman was the present head of the Livingstones, Mrs. Livingstone.
Nora did not speak.
The womanâs gloating words still echoed in her ears.
She was not deaf.
âOh, Miss Smith, youâre really introverted, are you still shy?â
Mrs. Livingstone continued to smile. Her voice wasnât loud, but it felt boisterous.
Nora narrowed her eyes and kept silent.
At that moment, a woman of about 25 approached. She said quietly, âMiss Smith, on behalf of my mother-in-law, I apologize for what you said earlier.â
This open and sincere attitude made Nora get a good impression of her.
She looked over and noticed that the woman was very friendly. When she smiled, she seemed very shy and friendly.
The butler introduced her to Noraâs ear. âThis is Mrs. Livingstoneâs daughter-in-law, Helen Stewart. She was asked to come and attend to this person.â
With that, the butler pursed his lips, clearly looking at Helen with disdain.
Nora was a bit taken aback.
Attend?
This person looked flushed and very healthy. What was wrong with her?
As she thought, Mrs. Livingstone grimaced. âHelen, how can you interrupt when your eldest is talking? So what if I criticized Miss Smith? You even apologized on my behalf? With your lousy body, can you represent our family?â
Helenâs face flushed.
She smiled awkwardly at Nora and lowered her head. She was clearly very self-conscious.
Nora was taken aback. She asked, âIs something wrong, Mrs. Stewart?â
Helen was stunned.
Since marrying the Livingstons, she had been called Mrs. Livingstone whenever she went out. It was the first time in recent years that she had been called Mrs. Stewart.
As she was stunned, Mrs. Livingstone laughed softly and teased, âThe thing is, sheâs been married for three years now and still canât have a child! Being a woman, she canât even have a child. What a shame. Miss Smith, hurry up and take a look at her â is there still a cure!â
Helenâs face turned red with derision.
Beside her, Elder Mrs. Hunt frowned and scolded her, âHow can you say that? Weâre outside. Pay attention to your familyâs image.â
Mrs. Livingstone said in disgust, âMrs. Hunt, you also know that our family has only had one heir for several generations. When it comes to this generation, we are all very anxious. Why canât they have a son? Have Miss Smith take a quick look at Helen and see if she is hiding anything. If she really has some hidden disease, letâs get rid of it as soon as possible.â
Helen, who stood beside her, was on the verge of tears.
Nora could no longer watch.
