Ruthâs eyes widened with a look of desperation.
She couldnât breathe properly and felt like her throat had become clogged.
Her brain started not getting enough oxygen and her vision blackened intermittently. Then, he passed out from suffocation.
Splash!
A bucket of ice water splashed Ruthâs face, waking her with a start. Only then did she realize that she had let go and fallen to the floor.
The basement was dimly lit, so she didnât know how long she had been unconscious.
She wiped her face with her hand. When she looked up, she saw Justin sitting cross-legged on the couch, staring at her coldly.
The look on his face gave Ruth a shock. As she thought about what had happened earlier, she swallowed hard and said, âMr. Hunt, you canât kill me. If you kill me, that child will die too.â
Because Justin had strangled her a moment ago, thus injuring her windpipe, her voice was hoarse. Also, the more she spoke, the more she ended up straining her throat, causing a stabbing pain.
Ruth grabbed her neck. At that moment, she realized that Justin really wanted to kill her.
While she was thinking, Justin suddenly pulled out a small chip. âIs this how you keep Trueman Yale informed of your situation at all times?â
Ruthâs pupils shrank. It was a tracking and monitoring device that had been implanted in her. It allowed Trueman to check his status at any time.
Only with this communicator and the child could Ruth ensure his safety.
But even the communicator had been discoveredâ¦.
Justin dropped the chip he held between his fingers to the floor. Nora had reminded him of it before he left. Then he had ordered Lawrence to bring him the corresponding device before finally finding it in Ruthâs stomach.
He crushed the token with his foot. After smashing it, he sneered, âYou think my men wonât be able to find the child just because youâre dead?â
Blood drained from Ruthâs face. âI⦠I am the childâs mother!â
âSo what?â replied Justin calmly. His voice was low and rich, making him sound like a demon in the gloom of the basement. âI can make it so the boy will never know it was me who killed you.â
Ruth gulped.
Seeing the strong murderous intent in the manâs deep-set eyes, she knew he was telling the truth!
She began to tremble all over.
At that moment, she discovered that Justin was a hundred times⦠no, ten thousand times more terrifying than Black Cat!
As powerful as Black Cat was, what she was doing was still ultimately torture. Yet Justin had been dispassionate and unconcerned the whole time. It was as if nothing was a problem in his world, and that he was the king in control of everything!
Such arrogance and confidence were not even found in his brother Trueman.
As Ruth was filled with fear and trepidation, Justin suddenly said lightly, âOf course, whether that child exists or not, as well as whether he is my son or not, is still unclear.â
âHe is your son, I guarantee it! I have evidence to prove it.â Ruth was terrified. She knew she had to prove right away that the child really existed and that he was Justinâs. Otherwise, it could really kill her!
Besides, from the situation she had just experienced, she now knew very well that Justin didnât like to listen to superfluous nonsense.
Like when she wanted to negotiate with him, the man didnât give her a chance to talk and almost strangled her to death.
She looked around in panic. Then, she asked, âCan I use your phone to get into my e-mail inbox?â
Justin didnât move.
Ruth behaved herself this time. She didnât dare do anything weird. She dutifully went into her email inbox and found some videos.
She said, âTheyâre videos of Xander. You can have Y check to see if they are real. When you see the videos, youâll know Iâm telling the truth.â
Lawrence handed the phone back to her and took a look at it first.
But when he did, a look of surprise immediately appeared on his countenance. He walked over to Justin immediately and handed him the phone.
Justin took the phone and looked down to see a five-year-old boy in the video. He had a haircut and was earnestly doing his homework.
Sensing that someone was recording him, he raised his head, annoyed, and his deep-set eyes looked into the camera.
Those eyes⦠that faceâ¦. They were exactly the same as Justinâs!
Pete and Cherryâs looks were a combination of the good parts of Justin and Nora, but Xander was totally a miniature version of Justin.
It didnât take a DNA test for Justin to know that he was definitely his son. Still, he was a little disappointed.
After all, before seeing the child, he had once wondered if Nora had also given birth to that child? Or maybe Nora had given birth to triplets back then, so the child would have looked just like Pete and Cherry.
However, that was not the case.
Ruth shouted, âMr. Hunt, Xander and I are very close. You mustnât kill me.â
Justin put the phone down and looked at her, âCall Trueman Yale. I donât care how you do it, you have five days to get him to send the kid here. Otherwise, Iâm not letting you go!â.
After saying that, he immediately got up and walked out.
But as soon as he got close to the door, Ruth couldnât help but shout, âMr. Hunt!â
Justin stopped but didnât look back.
Ruth shouted hoarsely, âWhy? Both Nora and I are the mothers of your children, why are you treating me like this?â.
Justin scoffed, âBecause youâre not worthy.â Then, he left the room.
What Ruth didnât know was that it wasnât because of the children that Justin was in love with Nora. Before he even knew she was Peteâs mother, he had already admired her and fallen in love with her.
When Nora said she washed her hands, she meant it. First she went to the hospital to treat Quentinâs condition. Since it was already the second time, she only gave him a simple bandage change. After treating him for five or six hours, she went home and fell asleep.
When she woke up, two days had already passed.
This time, she finally got enough sleep. She got out of bed refreshed. When she walked into the study, she saw the two children with their heads together and staring at the screen.
As Nora approached, she heard Cherry say, âDid you see that, Pete? I told you itâs really impressive! It solved all the Math Olympiad problems you did.â
At that moment they were talking on the phone, so a voice rang out, âOf course! Iâm a genius, you knowâ Pete was still expressionless. He replied, âYou mean a fake one?â
âYouâre just jealous of how smart I am â I have an IQ of 301! No one can beat that.â
Pete said, âSorry to disappoint you, but I have an IQ of 302.â
âYouâre just bragging. The highest human IQ currently recorded is 301, thatâs me.â The boy on the other end of the line said flippantly, âYouâre being very competitive just to show off in front of Cherry. But, try as you might, can you hold your pee?â.
Pete blushed immediately. He had always been a gentleman and had never used such rude words. How could that guy talk about things like poop and pee so lightly?
Seeing that he was upset, Cherry was quick to change the subject. âHave the rabbits recovered? The ones you were talking about two days ago?â
The boy sounded a little disappointed as he replied, âNo, they showed signs of rejection, so both rabbits died.â
Cherry: â?â
She blinked. âOh, youâre in a bad wayâ¦â
Before she could say âmoodâ, the boy sighed and said, âIndeed, I am in a bad mood.â
Cherry was about to console him when he continued. âAfter all, the meat of those two rabbits is of very low quality. They are very hard to chew.â
Cherry: â?â
Pete: â?â
Nora, who had just entered the room: â???â
âBut itâs okay. I also have ten other rabbits, fifteen cats and over twenty stray dogs. Then it will be No. 3 and No. 4âs turn. But I wonder if I should gouge out No. 4âs eyes and put them on No. 3, or if I should cut off No. 3âs ears and put them on No. 4.â
âSay, if I sow wheat on a cow, will grains of wheat grow from it that taste like meat? Also, can a dogâs head be placed on a cowâs belly?â
Just the sound of the various questions he asked in succession was frightening enough.
The trio looked at each other. Nora suddenly asked, âCherry, whatâs your friendâs name?â
