He stared at Caleb.
Caleb waved his hand. âDonât look at me like that. I donât need that drug anymore.â
Nora was surprised.
Caleb laughed softly. âIâm one of the few children left of the thousand. Logically, my transformation was very successful. Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with lung cancer when I was 26. Thatâs why I donât need that drug anymore.â
Nora was silent.
Suddenly, she felt that the deal between the Grays and her mother wasnât worth it. They had helped hide their identities for so long, but in the end, fate had played a joke on Caleb.
He narrowed his eyes. âIf I find the formula for the last drug, Iâll give it to you.â
Caleb chuckled softly. âArenât you afraid Iâm still loyal to the mysterious organization and Iâm lying to you about the formula?â Nora stared at him and didnât speak for a moment.
Caleb sighed quietly. âI wonât make fun of you anymore. I have already hated the mysterious organization deeply. Instead, this illness has helped me. I can finally get rid of them. However, I have always lived on the edge. I only have two months to live. I want to use my limited life to help the special department. It could be my help to mankind. Letâs make them pay for the thousand children who died in front of me.â
Nora understood. âSo Morris will let you go and youâll go undercover?â
âYes.â Caleb looked at the floor. âTrueman is one of the leaderâs sons. Back then, the leader threw his sons in and injected them with serums. Only Trueman survived, so he is the second in command of the mysterious organization. This is also the main reason why the mysterious organization has been looking for the last formula left by your mother. If the last dose is not injected in half a year, Trueman will die.â
Nora was stunned. âSo you and Truemanâ¦â
Caleb laughed. âThatâs right, I grew up with him. A lot of us kept dying every month. In the end, only four have survived so far. Maybe because of our experiences together, Trueman is still polite to me. Also, because of the serum, I am smarter than ordinary people. My status in the mysterious organization is higher. But still, I donât know where the leader and Truemanâs nest areâ¦. My goal to return this time is to find their base so that the special department can cooperate with Interpol and they can eliminate them all.â
Nora remained silent for a long time. The truth she had been searching for was exposed in front of her like this, but this truth was incomparably cruel.
After a long moment, she asked, âHow did my mother die then?â
Caleb was silent for a moment.
Nora stared at him with a determined look. âI want to hear the truth.â
Caleb sighed. âThe mysterious organization is very powerful. Back then, your mother leaked some information behind my parentsâ back. Seeing that they were about to come looking for you, your mother decided to die to protect you.â
Back then, Yvette had left Ian because she didnât want to drag him into all her trouble.
Later, when she was discovered, she knew she could no longer escape.
She had used her death to stop that pursuit.
Caleb continued, âAfter your motherâs death, my parents helped cover up all the evidence and you were safe. But no one expected the Andersons to recognize you. You even showed up in New York in such a notorious way. Yvette had a daughter who was still alive. This attracted the attention of the mysterious organization, and finally caused them to find out what had happened then.â
Caleb lowered his eyes. âWhen he discovered that my parents and I had hidden your whereabouts to protect you, the leader wanted to kill me. It was Trueman who begged for mercy and saved my life.â
Nora also said, âAfter you were caught, Trueman sent me a message. He said he would answer one of my questions in exchange for me giving you medicine. He treats you very well.â
Caleb sighed. âYes, thatâs also why I havenât for all these years betrayed the mysterious organization even though I knew they were wrong.â
Nora nodded and asked again, âAbout my pregnancyâ¦â
âI donât know anything about that,â Caleb replied. âI donât understand why you got pregnant. I donât understand why my family has protected you for so many years.â
Caleb smiled bitterly. âBack then, Anthony despised you and refused to honor the marriage agreement. After this issue blew up one too many times, my family went so far as to suggest that I take his place and honor the marriage agreement.â
He looked at Nora, his eyes were suddenly deep. âIn the end, we are not meant to be together.â
At his words, Nora didnât know what to say in response.
Caleb muttered to himself, âFortunately, you didnât marry me.â
He coughed.
Nora looked at him and sighed. He said nothing and patted her shoulder. âWhen are you leaving, Iâll walk you out.â
âNo, itâs okay.â
Caleb replied slowly, âIâll pretend to run away. If I donât, Trueman will find out.â
Nora nodded.
They were both speechless for a moment. Nora merely said, âIâll be going then.â
âOkay, bye.â
As Nora headed for the door, she noticed that Caleb had already picked up the book and was quietly reading it again.
His appearance was warm and mellow, indeed he seemed appropriate for such a scene.
Nora came out then and didnât see Caleb suddenly put down his book after she left. She glanced at the door and let out a long sigh.
Then, she covered her chest and coughed violently.
He quickly pulled out the medicine Nora had prepared for him. He opened it and wanted to take a pill, but suddenly realized that there was only one pill left in the bottle. He stared at the pill for a while and suddenly laughed at himself. He put the pill back in the bottle and couldnât bear to take it. Nora, who was outside the door, didnât know.
She just looked at Morris and asked, âWhen did Caleb start talking?â
Morris stared at Nora for a while and replied, âThe day after you sent him the medicine.â
Nora: ââ¦â
She did not speak and merely waved to Morris before leaving.
From the moment she walked out of the special apartment to the parking lot, she didnât look back.
There was no point in looking back in life.
Nora pulled into the parking lot and saw Justinâs car parked not far away. She had just approached it when she saw Ruth standing in front of Justin. She was gripping Justinâs sleeve tightly. âMr. Hunt, I knew it. I knew you would definitely come if you locked Nora up. Sheâs too hard to see.â
Justinâs expression was cold and even a little impatient.
He was about to speak when Ruth shouted, âYou canât treat me like that. Have you forgotten that night five years ago? I was the woman that night.â
Nora, who was about to approach, was speechless.
She stopped dead in her tracks. Her first thought was not that Justin was dating that woman, but that Ruth was somehow involved in the business of extracting Justinâs sperm and injecting it into her body to get her pregnantâ¦!
How did she get pregnant, how did Justin lose his memories and get caught up in a conspiracy? He was still wondering when this woman exposed herself.
Had she really met her match from that night!!!!!
