Hearing this, Johnson frowned, snorted coldly, and said sarcastically, “An elementary school certificate?”

Johnson scoffed, “Full compliance with standards? The minimum education requirement for outside personnel is a college degree – did you pay for a college degree certificate?”

Morris, however, did not answer him. He just looked at Ruth coolly and said, “What matters in the special department is one’s skills. Academic degrees are useless. I advise certain people not to make unnecessary comparisons. They should not use academic qualifications…. To humiliate themselves!”

After saying that, he turned and left.

Only after Morris left did Johnson finally come to his senses. He looked at Nora angrily and then at Ruth. “Humiliate yourself… Aren’t you using the wrong words? In my opinion, it’s you who needs to study harder! How are academic grades not important? If they’re not important, why is everyone trying so hard to further their studies and get higher grades?”

Ruth continued to persuade him. “Living abroad is not like you think. I have heard that in every country there are areas where immigrants from certain countries tend to congregate, and all the people living there speak in their native language. So there is no need to use the native language of the country to communicate at all. It is no different from a shortened version of certain countries. So, although many people claim to have lived abroad to make themselves look more impressive than they really are, in reality, they just stayed there. When they come back to the country two years later, they claim to be self-proclaimed ‘foreign-educated’ people. How amazing.”

As soon as Ruth said that, Johnson grimaced again and said, “Those people are impressive on the surface, but they’re rotten inside. The special department doesn’t need useless good-for-nothings like them.”

He looked at Nora again and said, “Nora, seeing that you are still young, don’t always come late and leave early. If you have time, you’d better study more! Do you think it’s enough to have a degree? Even the lowest college degree required to enter the special department is a bachelor’s degree. There are even several people with master’s degrees here! I hear Damon has a bachelor’s degree in computer science from MIT.”

“Look how humble he is!” Johnson pointed at Damon and said insinuatingly, “Everyone should learn from Damon!”

Damon became even more embarrassed. “What is there to learn from me? As good as my computer skills are, they don’t even come close to a tenth of Q or Y’s capabilities. I still have a lot more work to do. Even if I’m not as amazing as they are, I should at least keep my distance between us, lest they leave me in the dust.”

Damon was a straightforward man. His words were sincere and came from the bottom of his heart.

Little did he know, however, that his words only gave Johnson one more excuse to berate Nora. He said, “Look at him, that’s what I call the hope of America! If every one of you is lazy, simple-minded and lacking in ambition, how are you going to improve the special department? How are we going to be able to solve the cases you have entrusted to us!”

Everyone stopped talking.

Ruth spoke again. “Captain Johnson, you can’t use an isolated incident to make demands on everyone.”

Johnson scoffed, “Why not? As they say, geniuses aren’t scary. What’s scary is that geniuses work even harder than you do. It doesn’t matter that some have no academic qualifications, but shouldn’t they then try even harder to learn from their highly skilled co-workers? And ask them for advice? Do they think they are already on top of the world just because they have mastered a certain skill? Learning has no limits. If you don’t advance, you will only fall behind. If you don’t keep studying, I’m afraid your position as number one surgeon will be replaced by someone else in a year or two!”

The first half of his words only alluded to Nora’s identity, but the second half had pointed directly at Nora.

Nora scratched her ears and looked at Johnson. She raised her feline eyes slightly and said directly, “You might as well say my ID number directly.”

Nora looked at him and marveled, “Are you really Morris’ mentor?”

Johnson frowned. “Of course I am!”

Johnson: “…”

Nora looked at him and scoffed, “Morris already said a moment ago that you shouldn’t look down on others when they don’t know anything. Captain Johnson, if your eyes are bad, I can exchange them for another pair. If possible, please go to the archives and take a look at my file before you make such a fuss.”

After speaking, he turned and walked out. “How noisy.”

Everyone could only watch as Nora walked through the main entrance and left. Johnson was infuriated. He pointed at her from behind and reprimanded, “What do you mean, are you saying I’m blind? You are too arrogant. Although your academic grades are low, you sure have a great temperament!”

“How dare you tell me to take a look at your record! Ha, I’ll go take a look then!”

Johnson then pulled out his phone, logged into his account and accessed the files.

Today he would take a look at that woman’s academic qualifications in front of everyone, so everyone would know what she was really like.

The furious man connected the phone to the room’s projector and displayed her educational history on the wall.

Johnson then opened the file containing Nora’s personal information.

Nora looked cold and distant in her photo in the personal data section. The girl’s almond-shaped eyes stared straight ahead, as if her gaze penetrated right into one’s heart through the screen, making one feel a bit alarmed.
