Joel paused deliberately. Only after Nora looked up, he finally said, “Q said he won’t leave the Hacker Alliance because there is someone there whom he loves deeply: he can’t live without Y.”

Nora: “!!!!”

Joel leaned into her ear and said, “So, the reason why you haven’t accepted Mr. Hunt yet, as well as why you don’t take much initiative in this relationship is that …. Do you have someone else you like?”

Nora: “?????”

Joel sighed. “Of all the people you might like, however, why do you have to like Y? Don’t you know that Y is the exclusive hacker for the Hunt Corporation and that he gets along great with Justin? Everyone says he might be Justin’s hidden brother. Nora, you better not turn the two brothers against each other.”

Nora didn’t bother to pay attention to Joel’s teasing. She asked, “Is the groom that free today?”

Joel laughed and said, “Okay, I’m just checking to see if Mia has woken up yet. I’m leaving.” When he left, Nora shook her head.

Then, she went to Tanya’s dressing room and watched as she put on her wedding dress. Nora was also wearing a white bridesmaid’s dress.

She wore no makeup. Her eyes and eyebrows were clear and simple, her almond-shaped eyes docile.

At first glance, everyone would be drawn to Tanya standing beside her; after all, she was the bride. But once you looked for a few moments, even though Nora didn’t wear makeup, she was still an existence impossible to ignore.

At 8:28 a.m., Tanya was picked up by the bridal car. At about ten o’clock, she entered the hotel.

The hotel was full of people.

Nora escorted Tanya to the salon, where Tanya touched up her makeup according to the situation. At twelve o’clock, the wedding would begin! When Nora entered the salon, she looked around and found several undercover agents that the special department had sent.

She frowned.

At that moment, she really hoped Karl wouldn’t come.

But when he noticed the tense smile on Tanya’s face, he couldn’t help but sigh.

Tanya sat down at the dressing table and looked at the exquisitely made-up woman in the mirror. In her eyes, however, there was deep sorrow.

The day before, when Jill had been taken away…. no, Margot, the fake Jill, she came to understand that her mother had already passed away then.

And her father… after being wronged for so many years, with no other choice left, had finally taken the path of crime.

Amid the silence, soft whispers suddenly came from the doorway.

“Have you heard, Karl has escaped! He’s escaped again!”

“Gosh, if he hadn’t run away then, maybe Jill wouldn’t have died, and Tanya wouldn’t have led such a miserable life as a child…”

“Yes. Besides, this time her crime isn’t so serious. Escaping from prison like that, she’ll probably never get back to the States, right? Why would she do that?”

“Why wouldn’t he? The way I see it, it’s a good idea! He’s been living in Switzerland all this time and he’s never been back in all these years. I think he has a lot of money saved up. If they put him in jail, how’s he going to squander all that money?”

“… True, but he’s too selfish if he does that.”

“He probably doesn’t love his daughter anymore, right? I heard that he gave his daughter a large sum of money…”

“What’s the use of having so much money, do people like us lack money? However, Tanya is really pitiful. She really doesn’t have a single person from her own family anymore.”

The voices gradually faded into the distance and the room fell silent.

Tanya suddenly said, “Tell me, Nora, how nice it would have been if she hadn’t run away then?”

Nora clenched her jaw.

She knew Tanya was a little resentful of Karl at that instant.

If one thought about it carefully, Karl had let Jill down.

It was obvious that he had a relationship with Jill, but he had walked away without taking any responsibility. He had also failed to tell Jill about his whereabouts, which caused Jill to approach Margot and lose her life.

If she hadn’t killed anyone, she should have trusted the police.

Tanya lowered her head. “He had even convinced Margot to surrender, so why did he refuse to trust the law himself? He was a coward.”

She covered her face with her hands.

Nora sighed and put her hand on Tanya’s shoulder.

Tanya raised her head again. “He had already made a mistake once back then, and yet he ran away again this time…”

Nora sighed quietly.

To tell the truth, if Karl had obediently gone to jail, Tanya wouldn’t have been so angry. However, Karl’s second escape made her very uncomfortable.

He was a coward again!

Nora said, “Maybe he has his own difficulties.”

Tanya scoffed, “I don’t understand, what kind of difficulties could have made him abandon my mother then? What about now, what kind of difficulties could he have?”

Nora said nothing.

At that moment someone knocked on the door and a middle-aged couple came in. Seeing them, Tanya hurriedly got up and wiped the corners of her eyes with her head down.

Nora looked at the couple.

The woman was pretty and delicate, while the man was quiet and steady. He looked a little like Ian.

When the two entered, the woman spoke first. She said, “Hello, I’m Joel’s mother.”

Tanya hurried to greet her respectfully. “Hello, Auntie.”

The woman nodded distantly.

As for Nora, enlightenment came to her suddenly.

They were Joel’s parents. So did that make them his uncles?

After Ian inherited the Smiths, all of the same generation had moved away one after another, leaving only the youngsters at the manor.

Joel had grown up under Ian’s care and was not close to his parents.

Joel’s mother said casually, “Today is your wedding to Joel, that’s why we came. Some things are hard to say at the wedding, so I can only come and talk to you privately.”

Tanya was very respectful. “Please go ahead.”

Joel’s mother lowered her head and a look of disdain appeared in her eyes. She said, “We all know your background…”.

Tanya bit her lip.

Joel’s mother continued. “We won’t blame you for having an ordinary person for a mother and a criminal for a father, but I hope you’ll let us take Mia and raise her.”

As soon as he said that, Tanya’s eyes widened and she said, “No, you can’t!”.

As soon as she said that, Joel’s father snorted and scoffed, “Why not, can someone like you raise a girl right? We won’t have you grooming the third generation of Smiths to be useless.”

Joel’s mother was surprisingly kind as she said, “Don’t get us wrong, Tanya, he has no bad intentions. It’s just that your father is, all in all, a very nasty man. Now that he’s even escaped from jail and has become the talk of the town, we’re just worried that Mia will be adversely affected…”

Tanya clenched her fists.

A feeling of embarrassment welled up in her. She stared at the two people in front of her, not expecting her in-laws to say such things.
