Quinn, who had come to his senses, turned to run. Unfortunately, Nora had already beaten him to it and grabbed his beard. âOld man , why are you running away?â
Quinn then shouted in pain. âLet go of me, sleepyhead!â
Pete, who was standing next to them, was speechless.
He had thought Mom was a very tender person, after all, she was always sleeping. But last night, when they got home, she had insisted on taking off his pants. Mommy had been very cheeky then, and because of the chaos that had ensued, the two of them had become much closer.
Now, moreover, he discovered that Mommy also had a very violent side.
She was like a treasure chest that always gave him one novel surprise after another.
Nora plucked two strands of hair out of Quinnâs beard before finally letting go.
She really was quite angry.
The children didnât understand her pain, but being their teacher, how was it possible that Quinn didnât understand? She had even helped the two little ones keep it a secret from her.
Half an hour later, Justin sent Cherry over.
Noraâs eyes reddened slightly as she gazed at the two identical faces, and satisfaction filled her heart.
Quinn circled them. âItâs so rare for boy-girl twins to be identical! Sleepyhead, Iâm going to take them to practice when youâve had your fill of looking at them.â
Nora nodded.
After Cherry left to watch Quinn and Pete practice martial arts, Nora looked down and picked up her cell phone. She called her aunt and told her what had happened to her. â⦠Tell me, if I run away with the two of them now, what will Justin Hunt do?â.
Her auntâs voice was very nonchalant and cordial. She replied, âWhy does it have to be him? Heâs not just the head of the number one familyâ¦that man is not to be trifled with. Even if you manage to escape, youâll get caught sooner or later! I advise you to give it up.â
Nora leaned back lazily in the armchair. âWhat should I do, then, pay to get my son back?â
âIt seems heâs richer than you.â
âThen I challenge him to a fight? Whoever wins gets the child?â
âHe looks stronger than you.â
â⦠Is there anything Iâm better at than him?â
His aunt stood thinking for a while. Suddenly, she laughed and said, âYouâre better at sleeping than he is. Why donât you conquer him in bed?â
ââ¦â
Nora was speechless for a moment. Then, her aunt said jokingly, âOr why donât you get him to fall in love with you? The two of you can be together.â
Nora thought for a while and came to a conclusion. âItâs too much of a loss for me if I do that.â
âWhatâs your loss? Heâs quite handsome, so heâll look good next to you.â
Nora sighed and replied, âI wanted a son, but if I do that, not only will I lose my daughter to him, but Iâll lose myself to him as well.â
After a few cheeky exchanges with her aunt, Nora hung up.
After some thought, she decided it would be better to have a good talk with Justin instead. After all, after interacting with him for some time, she had found that Justin was not as unreasonable as rumored.
After warning Quinn and the kids, she went to Finest Hospital.
Justin and his little brother were in the hallway. Neither of them saw her, so Nora approached.
The next day was Sunday, so Howard would be taking care of family business on behalf of his grandfather at the family home.
Justin wanted Chester to keep Pete company when that happened.
Chester patted him on the chest and promised, âNo problem! Iâll keep an eye on him and keep anyone from bullying him.â
After saying that, he thought about the huge secret he was keeping from his big brother. He let out a guilty cough and asked, âCan I ask you something, Justin?â.
Justin was as reticent as ever. âSay it.â
Chester scratched his head. âIf Peteâs birth mother stood in front of you, what would you do?â
Nora had just approached them when she heard his question.
After a brief pause, she heard Justinâs icy, hateful voice, âIâd give her a terrible death.â
ââ¦â
A shiver suddenly ran down her spine. The murderous aura surrounding Justin in that instant, as well as the murderous look in his eyes, made her limbs go cold.
It was the first time Nora realized what her aunt meant when she said that this man was not to be trifled with.
Chester was also surprised. He asked, âWhat has your mother ever done to make you hate her so much, Justin?â
Justin, however, just pressed his lips together tightly. He didnât want to bring it up again.
Nora stepped back quietly and rounded the corner to the staircase before the two men could discover her presence. Then she descended the stairs and drove straight out of the hospital.
As she held the steering wheel, she frowned and wondered. What kind of enmity did she have with Justin to make her hate him so much?
Did it have to do with her pregnancy at the time? How had she gotten pregnant? Surely she couldnât have taken him by force while she was sleepwalking, could she? cough.
No matter. If she couldnât find out, she would just keep it from him for now.
She had to stay in New York for a while longer anyway.
Nora went to the herbalist and pharmacy to pick up the pills and topical ointments she had ordered the day before. During the pick-up process, the pharmacist asked her, âDo you have a name for these pills? They have such a refreshing smell.â
Nora smiled and replied, âThey are known as the Rest Pills.â
In the afternoon, when Justin had not yet arrived, he picked Cherry up at Quinnâs and took her back to the Andersons.
At the Andersons.
Sheena was there again. She had a grave, worried look on her face, and even her suit and exquisite makeup couldnât hide her tiredness.
A pale Melissa asked, âWhat do we do, Sheena?â
The Andersons had always been the masters of the pharmaceutical industry. The traditional medicines they made had excellent effects, and the recipes were passed down from generation to generation. In her generation, her father had taught Noraâs mother everything he knew and had praised her as a boundless genius when it came to pharmaceuticals.
Simon had not gone into the profession.
Sheena, however, learned a little from her.
Thus, when Noraâs mother ran away from home and caused the gradual decline of the Andersons, Sheena had stepped up to the plate to secure and maintain the operation of their pharmaceutical factory.
She was someone who barked rather than bit. Her love for her sister had given way to hatred, which caused her to also feel resentment toward Nora.
Sheena had her back straight as she ranting. âThe Myers are too shameless! How dare they hire an expert to test and compare their Refreshing Tablets with our Vital Water. Their product has better medicinal effects than ours, but weâre both minding our own business. What makes them think they can walk all over us with such arrogance?â
Simon, who had just been discharged, leaned back on the couch and let out a huge sigh. âSister once developed a formula for Resting Pills, which are more effective than Cooling Tablets. If she were still around, things wouldnât have gotten to this point.â
Sheenaâs eyes immediately widened. Then, the tired womanâs eyes reddened and she scolded Simon. âItâs all her fault that the Andersons are in this predicament! It doesnât matter that sheâs gone, but how can she take The Philosophies of Medicine and leave us with this mess? That book was passed down through the Andersons from generation to generation.â
Simon did not speak.
However, Melissa suddenly suggested, âWhy donât we ask Nora if she understands pharmacology.â
Sheena scoffed, âSister died when Nora wasnât even a year old-how could she understand?â
Nora walked into the house with Cherry at that moment. When she saw Sheena, she didnât bother to approach to incur her resentment and merely nodded her head slightly, intending to go upstairs to see her grandmother.
Suddenly, a puzzled Melissa stopped her and asked, âNora, what do you have in that bag?â
