Karl held his phone tightly. His jaw tensed and he felt he must have misheard. He kept his emotions in check and asked again, âWhat did you say?â
âBoss, Tanya Turner is his real daughter. Hillary Jones is not your daughter at all. That sadistic woman came in kidnaps your offspringâs daughter and tortured her for five yearsâ¦.
I researched her background along the way. Miss Turner suffered greatly in Switzerland during those five years. After losing her daughter, she suffered a mental breakdown and was on the verge of being sent to a mental institution. Later, someone even framed her and broke her leg. When I looked into it, it turned out that it was also Hillaryâs doing. Fortunately, she met a genius doctor who fixed her legâ¦.
Also, as you may already know from the court hearing, it was Hillary who was behind the breakup of Miss Turner and Mr. Smith back then. She plotted and conspired to sow discord between the two and break them up.
I also found out that everyone knows that Tanya Turner is Jillâs daughter. She was Jillâs extra baggage when she married the Joneses back then. The Joneses have always treated Miss Turner as a servant.
In addition, after the first nine years of compulsory education, since entering high school, Miss Turner had been working part-time to earn money for her tuition expenses. When she was going to college in the United States, her tuition expenses also came from her part-time jobs. Jill never seemed to have given him any money for his expensesâ¦â
The more his subordinate spoke, the more serious and solemn Karlâs face became.
To be honest, when Jill had told him that Hillary was her daughter, he had had a bit of an internal struggle.
After all, no one wanted his daughter to be a thief who stole other peopleâs children!
But for someone like him, who could never have any more children, having an offspring was something that did not come easily. He dared not wish for more.
When he had ordered his men to investigate Tanya, he had not really had high hopes. He had simply found Jillâs behavior a bit suspicious.
Although he was the leader of a group of assassins, Karl gave people the impression that he was a very simple and naive man, as if he was very gullible. It was as if he had looked like a foolish small-time gangster in the United States many years agoâ¦.
But if he really was that stupid, how was it possible that he had become the leader of the Assassin Organization?
The moment the report came out, Karl was thankful that his daughter was not a woman who performed all sorts of wicked and malicious acts, There also arose in him a sharp sense of guilt!
He had never expected his daughter to have such a hard life.
Nor had he ever expected that he himself would become an accomplice to someone who was trying to take the child away from his daughter just when her life was getting better.
He slapped himself on the cheek angrily.
Slap!
He used a lot of force in the slap. After slapping himself, his mind cleared as well. He turned to look at Jill.
The look in his eyes was fierce and merciless, making Jill feel cold all over. Her confrontational words toward Karl suddenly stuck in her throat and she stammered, âWhy are you looking at me like thatâ¦?â
Karl sneered, âIâm just trying to see how brave the person is who had the nerve to trick me into bullying my own daughter!â Jillâs pupils shrank as she heard him.
She took a huge step back. Her eyes flickered as she said, âWhat nonsense are you talking about? I donât understand what youâre saying.â
âIn that case, let me explain it to you properly.â
Karl took step after step toward Jill. âThe hair you pulled out when you were in court was Tanya Turnerâs, wasnât it?â
Jill was quick to deny it. âNo, it isnât!â
Seeing that she was still lying even on this point, disappointment flashed in Karlâs eyes. He narrowed his eyes and said slowly, âIâve already done another DNA test for Tanya and me.â
That sentence of his stunned Jill.
She looked at Karl in disbelief, apparently she had never expected him to be such a perceptive man?
Seeing that she had finally shut up, Karl scoffed, âWhat else do you have to say now?â.
Realizing that she could no longer keep it from him, Jill took another two steps back and put some distance between her and Karl. She looked at him coldly and said angrily, âSo what if you realize now, this is something you owe me, Karl! Even if Tanya is your daughter, Iâm still the one who gave birth to her! I gave you a daughter, so you have to save my daughterâs life!â.
Karl narrowed his eyes. Suddenly he stepped forward and slapped her hard on the cheek!
Slap!
The crisp slap made Jillâs voice instantly disappear.
She felt her cheek burn, and even two of her teeth had loosened and fallen out. She could taste a metallic sweetness: she was probably bleeding.
His ears were also ringing. You could easily see how hard Karl had slapped her.
When she finally came to her senses, she saw that Karl was already sitting on the couch. He had one leg crossed over the other and was fiddling with a gun. Jillâs legs turned to jelly when she saw the cold barrel pointed at her.
In that instant, the man in front of her suddenly became large and tall. It was as if even the air around him had changed. From simple, naive nouveau riche, he had become a cold, unfeeling underworld boss.
Jill swallowed hard.
From the moment she had met Karl while driving Hillary to the airport, the man had always shown her kindness. It made her think that time was still stuck in more than twenty years ago, when the man had been nothing more than a small-time gangster on the streetsâ¦.
Thatâs why she hadnât failed to make several requests of Karl, and even spoke as if giving him orders when he asked her to save his daughter. It wasnât until now that Jill realized, in shock, that he was a man capable of making even the Smiths and the Hunts give in. He was not someone she could manipulate as and when she wanted toâ¦..
She had assumed he was far more stupid than he really was.
She was so scared she couldnât help but shudder. Her lips trembled as she said, âYou⦠you canât kill meâ¦â
Karl lowered his head and looked at her blankly. âWhy canât I kill you?â
âBecause⦠becauseâ¦â Jill had something suddenly occur to her. âBecause Iâm Tanyaâs mother! I gave birth to her! I raised her to the end! Even if thereâs nothing meritorious in what I did, you canât deny the effort Iâve made! I was the one who gave Tanya life.â
Karl let out an icy laugh as he heard what he said. He looked up and said, âIf not for that, do you think I would have stopped at a simple slap?â
Cold sweat drenched Jill.
Karl stood up. He glared at her and ordered, âGet lost!â.
A startled Jill stood up abruptly and ran for the door. The woman staggered as she moved, as if she feared Karl would kill her the next second.

Elsewhere, in prison.
During the prisonersâ recreation time, someone approached Hillary.
Hillary couldnât help but smile as she looked at her. âKarl Moore sent you to take care of me?â
The woman was a prisoner. She flexed her wrists as she heard what Hillary said, and the corners of her lips curved into an odd smile. âUh-huh. The boss asked me to take good care of you.â
