With Mia in the middle, Tanya glared back at him. Fearing she might wake Mia, her voice was very low and soft as she replied, âNo, Iâm not.â
Joel made an acknowledging sound.
Tanya thought she was going to sleep, so she pulled the quilt over herself and closed her eyes.
It was summer, so the air conditioning in the room was very low. Tanya and Mia shared the comforter, while Joel used another comforter.
As Tanya was about to fall asleep, Joelâs soft voice reached her. âDonât worry, Tanya. I will definitely make Hillary pay for what she did.â
Startled, Tanya watched him. In the darkness, she could see a cold look in his eyes. He didnât raise his voice, but it was as if there was power in his words. âI wonât let anyone bully you two anymore.â
Tanya pursed her lips. Her eyes reddened and sorrow welled up in her.
When she was young, she had tried her best and given her all for love, but she hadnât known how to love. She made a big fuss whenever she encountered the slightest unhappiness and often threatened to separate whenever they argued.
It was as if he had no fear.
It is only when one regains what one has lost that one finally discovers how precious love is.
Suddenly she hated her past self. Why had she called Joel when she saw the photo? Why hadnât she come to him with the photo and asked for a clear explanation?
If she had asked him for an explanation, and if he hadnât said those hurtful words in a fit of anger, the two of them wouldnât have let those five years go by like that.
Mia probably wouldnât have missed out either. Tanya suddenly approached Mia. She groped and then took Joelâs hand. This time, he wouldnât let go of her.

When they left the room after waking up the next day, they saw Justin coming out of Noraâs bedroom.
Joel unconsciously asked, âLast night, youâ¦â
âI slept in the guest room.â
The beauty mark in the corner of Justinâs eye twinkled as he politely replied, âI just came in to see if you were awake.â
Joel breathed a sigh of relief. Feeling like he had made a mountain out of a molehill, he coughed and said, âOh, I wasnât suspecting you of taking the opportunity to take advantage of her. I just wanted to ask you if you slept well last night.â
Justin looked at him but didnât expose his brother-in-lawâs thoughts. After all, for some strange reason he still didnât like his father-in-law at the moment.
He needed his brother-in-lawâs help.
Justin nodded. âI slept pretty well. Iâll go to the courthouse with you later.â
Joel said, âActually, you donât have to go to all that trouble. Weâve already prepared everything we need in court today.â
Justin coughed, âIâll go get Nora, lest she gets mad when she wakes up and finds out I didnât bother enough.â
Joel: ââ¦â
The corners of his lips tightened a little. Suddenly, he felt his brother-in-lawâs skin getting thicker and thicker.
The group of people left the house, split up and got into several cars. Soon they arrived at the courthouse entrance.
As soon as they got out of the car, Hillary ran out from somewhere and approached the two before they entered the courthouse.
Behind Hillary were a large number of reporters.
Trump!
Hillary knelt down right in front of Tanya and Joel. Her eyes were red as she said, âMr. Smith, Tanya. I can give you both my blessing and withdraw from the relationship, but you cannot do this to me. Please, I beg you, give me back my daughter! Mia means everything to me.
The reporters pulled out their cameras and started taking pictures.
Tanya and Joel looked at each other.
Joel said, âMiss Jones, the court has the final say today, so please rise.â
Hillary, however, was crying hard. âI was wrong, Mr. Smith. I shouldnât have bothered you, and I should have removed myself from the relationship, but you canât kick me out of the country. Mia was once part of my body, you canât separate me from my daughter like that! I donât think Mia would be willing to leave her mother either, where is Mia, Mia?â
He looked behind the two of them.
Some of the reporters also looked behind them. They immediately asked, âWhere is the girl?â
âYes, Mr. Smith, the court ordered you to bring Young Miss Smith with you because they might ask the child some questions.â
âYou didnât bring the child with you? You are too shameless!â
Hillary cried even louder. âI havenât seen Mia for a week, Mr. Smith! I just want to see the child! Just one look would do!â
Joel and Tanya exchanged a glance. Tanya looked down. When she thought of all the pain she had suffered during those five years, as well as how reserved and shy Mia was whenever she mentioned her mother, a surge of anger surged through her.
How she wished she could rip Hillaryâs face off and cut her to pieces!
And to think that she still had the gall to mention the little girlâ¦..
Tanya said slowly, âHillary, youâll never see the girl again for the rest of your life!â.
After saying that, she grabbed Joelâs arm, and the two of them headed straight for the courthouse!
Hillaryâs tragic, miserable sobs rang out. âTanya, how can you do this to me, how can you, my daughter, I just want my daughter!â
The reporters surrounding them dared not approach Tanya and Joel, after all, they were outside the courtroom. So, they surrounded Hillary.
âMiss Jones, how confident are you of winning the trial?â
âMiss Jones, did you file the lawsuit for money or for your daughter?â
Hillary stood up. She wiped tears from her eyes and cried as she told the camera, âI donât want money! I donât want anything except my daughter.â
With a sad and pitiful look on her face, she said, âI know Iâm unemployed right now, but the Joneses are rich too. I receive dividends from the Jonesâ company. I am also willing to work for the sake of my daughter.
My daughter is everything to me!
I can withdraw from the love triangle, but my daughter is innocent!â
She burst into tears. âPlease, everyone, help me, help me get my daughter back!â She cried fiercely. Her tears made the audience watching the live broadcast sympathize with her.
For a while, public opinion completely sided with her.
Everyone was cursing Tanya and Joel in the live broadcast comments.
âWhat makes Tanya think she can take such an aggressive attitude against Hillary? Sheâs so shameless.â
âAhhh! That sight makes me so angry! Hillary must win this lawsuit! Otherwise, none of us will accept the outcome!â
âYes, the judiciary must not outweigh feelings. We will fight by your side in this matter!â
Hillary cried so hard that in the end they had to help her into the courtroom.
Outsiders were not allowed to enter the back room.
As soon as Hillary entered, she bumped head-on into Tanya.
She looked down and said sadly, âTanya, I can give you Joel, but not Mia. I will definitely win the trial.â
Because she already had the upper hand in public opinion!!!!!
