Her words couldnât have been more hurtful.
Joel stopped and looked at her in astonishment.
Hillary seemed to have lost her mind. The wild look on her face made her look like a beast in captivity putting up one last fight. He said, âHow about this? Give me Mia and you two can have your own children, isnât that a good idea? Then I wonât bother you again in the future.â
Joel looked at Tanya quickly.
By asking her to be Miaâs stepmother, he was actually letting Tanya down.
Tanya had also resisted the idea.
Just two days ago, she had even pushed him away because of it.
Joel thought that was something Tanya couldnât get over.
However, Tanyaâs gaze fell on Mia when she heard what Hillary said.
The words âhave children of your ownâ were a blow that made her heart ache.
However, she had noticed Mia reaching out her little hand and gripping Joelâs sleeve tightly when she heard what Hillary said. Moreover, her shy eyes were also looking at her as if asking for help â or begging for mercy.
Mia didnât want to go with Hillary.
She was very resistant to the idea.
Seeing that neither she nor Joel would speak, Hillary held out her hand to Mia and said, âCome here, Mia. Come to mommy. Theyâre all bad people, you know that? Theyâre all bad people! When your teacher and your father have their own children in the future, they will abuse you and bully you. Come to mommy. Mommy will never bully you, will she?â.
Mia shrank further into Joelâs arms.
Joelâs gaze, however, was on Tanya the whole time.
He would never turn Mia over to Hillary, no matter what.
But he wanted Tanya to say something right nowâ¦..
Tanya, however, just stared at Mia. The emotions in her eyes were so complicated that even Joel couldnât read them at all.
Joelâs heart slowly sank.
Tanya probably still couldnât accept Mia.
Well, that made sense.
What made him think he could ask her to treat the child born to the man he loved the most and the sister he hated the most as her own?
Besides, Tanya was someone with a direct and determined character. She had never been one to do such holy thingsâ¦..
However, Joel had no choice but to be selfish this time.
He would never let go of Mia, nor would he ever let go of Tanya.
They were the two most important women in his life.
With that in mind, Joelâs gaze turned cold and unfathomable. He looked at Hillary and pushed Mia away from her.
Just as he was about to speak, Tanya, who stood behind him, said, âIf I say I donât care, will you believe me?â
Her words left everyone gasping.
Hillary looked at her in disbelief.
Even Joel was surprised.
Tanya looked at Mia and slowly held out her arms to her. âI like Mia. Even though sheâs your daughter, sheâs nothing like you. The two of you are completely different.â
Tanya lowered her head.
She couldnât even force herself to dislike Mia, because seeing her made her think of her own child.
Any woman who had had children before would be somewhat accommodating to children and would forgive them. She wanted to make Mia happy.
When Mia saw Tanya hold out her arms to her, for some reason, she suddenly felt warmth in the icy world.
She stretched out her own short little arms and climbed into Tanyaâs arms.
When Tanya said that, she had put aside her negative feelings.
She believed that her child would be like her, and she also hoped that all children in the world could live happy and carefree lives.
Tanya, who had put her negative feelings about Mia behind her, suddenly raised her head. Her lips curved into a smile as she turned to Hillary. She said cheekily, âBesides, Mia is Joelâs daughter. Considering how much I love him, I would love his daughter too, so why wouldnât I like Mia? Youâre worrying too much about it.
By the way, you donât have to worry too much about Mia when you go abroad, because I will take good care of her. After all, we are a family of three. Weâre going to live happily together.â
Hillary became so furious that she began to tremble.
For some reason, though, Tanya sensed that Hillaryâs emotions were a little strange. It was as if she was furious, but at the same time afraid of something. âYouâ¦! Thatâs complete nonsense! Iâm Miaâs mother!â
Tanya didnât understand why she emphasized that over and over again, but she asked nonetheless, âMia, do you want me to be your mother?â
Miaâs eyes lit up and she nodded. âYes!â
Tanya then looked at Hillary. âMia is only five years old. Letâs say five â or even ten â years later, will she still remember you, her birth mother?â
She let out an icy laugh after speaking.
Immediately after, as if she were one of those bad-tempered women who flaunt their power after doing bad things, in the midst of everyone gesturing and talking about her, oblivious to anything, Tanya headed for the exit with Mia in her arms. âAlright, Mia, your feverâs gone, shall we go home?â
ââ¦â
Hillary was still shaking even after Tanya had left. Mrs. Jones, who was frowning, didnât seem to know what she should do.
Shortly thereafter, Joelâs assistant approached Hillary. âMs. Jones, your plane ticket is booked. Your flight is in an hour. You can come with me now.â
Hillary clenched her fists.
However, she was speechless as she stared at the attendant in front of her.

With a mighty rush around her, Tanya headed for the parking lot with Mia in her arms.
Joel followed her. As he watched the woman in front of him take firm, determined steps, a dazzling smile formed at the corner of his lips.
When they reached the car, he took two quick steps forward, to Tanyaâs side.
Tanya turned to him and smiled triumphantly. âDid you see how Hillary looked just now, hahaha I felt so good, I havenât been so happy in so many years!â
Joel: ââ¦â
A very self-conscious Tanya sat in the back seat with Mia and left the driverâs seat to Joel. He had a smile on his lips the whole time. âMia, I made your mom really mad just now, do you mind?â
Mia blinked at once. âNo, I donât mind, Mommy!â
Tanya: â?â
She suddenly choked on her saliva. After a few violent coughs, the astonished woman looked at Mia. âYou⦠What did you just call me?â
Although Mia looked at her shyly, she spoke very firmly. âIt was you who asked me to call you Momâ¦â.
Tanya: ââ¦â
The corners of her lips tightened in embarrassment. âNo, I said it just to make Hillary angry. Youâ¦youâ¦donât take it seriously.â
âOkay, Mom,â Mia said.
Tanya: ââ¦â
She immediately looked at Joel, who was in the driverâs seat. âWhat are you laughing at, arenât you going to do something about the little girl?â
The extremely thick Joel said, âWe already agreed then that when we had a daughter in the future, I would be in charge of spoiling her while you would be in charge of disciplining her.â
Tanya: â!â
It was only when the car started up that she finally asked, âWhere are we going?â
âTo Smith Manor.â Tanya blushed crimson after she spokeâ¦. Joel, who saw that she was about to refuse, immediately added, âNora is hurt. Before she passed out, she was talking about an emailâ¦â
