Just as she thought it, Wayne replied, âLove and companionship.â
Nora was speechless.
Wayne continued. âEven though he left us early, heâs paved the way for you. He may not be around anymore, but his heart has always been with you.â
ââ¦â
After listening to Wayne prattle on and on about motherly love for over an hour, Nora, who had just finished eating, couldnât help but yawn.
Thatâs when Wayne realized he was being too wordy. He said, âYouâre an adult now, Nora. When do you plan to take over the company?â
Even though he had come to care for and develop a sense of ownership in the company, the business was Noraâs. I had to give it back to her.
Nora casually replied, âYouâre taking pretty good care of it, so stick with it.â
A small business did not have the usual few departments. The owner had to basically take care of everything himself. This took up too much of his time that he could spend sleeping.
Wayne was confused.
Nora asked, âHave the Grays shown any interest in buying the company?â
If what the Grays were really interested in was the companyâs development potential, there was no need to use Anthonyâs marital bliss as a bargaining chip. They could simply buy the company at a high price. It wasnât that they didnât have the money.
Wayne shook his head, however. âNo, they donât.â
Nora frowned. However, since she couldnât figure it out, she decided she wouldnât think about it anymore. âIf you ever think of anything my mother has ordered you to deliver to me, call me.â
âSure.â Then Wayne said, âCan I have your bank account number, Nora? Iâll transfer all company dividends directly to you in the future.â
At the time, Nora was still a child. But when she grew up, she had gone overseas. Thatâs why Wayne had paid the dividends to her guardian.
It was only five million dollars. Even though it was nothing to Nora, why should he give it to the Smiths?
He gave her his bank account number and left.
On the top floor of the Finest Hotel.
Howard Hunt sat arrogantly on the couch and glared at Pete, who was in the study, with contempt.
In this generation, the only Hunt direct descendants left were Justinâs immediate family, as well as Howardâs immediate family in New York.
As the familyâs direct descendant and eldest son, Justin had also inherited the position. However, his second uncle refused to accept it and ended up causing many incidents.
The Hunts who lived in the family home did not participate in the familyâs business disputes. They were only in charge of presiding over family affairs. As for Howard, he was obsessed with martial arts.
He despised his familyâs ways and also admired Justin from the bottom of his heart. However, he simply disliked that boy of unknown origin. It was he who shamed Justinâs glorious life.
Besides, not only was he mentally ill, but he was so small and weak. How could such a child be worthy of becoming Justinâs successor?
Howard snorted and withdrew his gaze with disdain.
The door opened at that moment: Justin had returned.
As the man entered the room, his almost solid presence rushed toward Howard, making him sit up with a start. He greeted him respectfully. âJustin.â
Justin let out a sound of recognition and asked, âWhat are you doing here?â
Howard touched his hooked nose nervously and replied, âGrandpa heard that youâre going to New York to have your grandmotherâs illness treated, so he wants me to accompany you and act as a witness. At the same time, I also thought Iâd see if Old Mr. Quinn would be willing to take me in and teach me some traditional martial arts techniques.â
It might seem that traditional martial arts were falling into decline as time went by, but in fact, there were still mysterious masters of the art among ordinary people.
The Quinn School of Martial Arts and the Irvin School of Martial Arts held the top spots in the traditional martial arts. Howardâs dream was to become their apprentice.
Justin looked at him. He knew the part about wanting to join the school was true, but not so much the part about him being a witness. But joining the Quinn School of Martial Arts and learning martial arts there?
His deep-set eyes glanced toward the studio. A dim light flickered in his eyes and he said, âTake Pete with you. However, Mr. Quinn is strict about enrollment. You may not meet his requirements. Pete, on the other hand, has a chance. â
I had already checked out Peteâs body when he was a young boy. Pete was well suited to learn martial arts. However, he was reluctant to have his son go through difficulties at that time, so he had not taught him martial arts.
His son was behaving rather âsingularlyâ lately, so it would be good to send him to the Quinn School of Martial Arts to learn some martial arts. Then he could âstraighten him outâ.
Howard curved his lip in disdain, âHim?â
However, when he made eye contact with Justinâs sharp eyes, he fell silent and swallowed what he wanted to say next.
Deep down, though, he was teasing. With that small, weak body he had, why would Mr. Quinn choose him?
Nora returned to the hotel at that moment.
Her cell phone started ringing. As she slipped on her slippers, leaned back on the couch and lazily picked up, she heard an angry shout from the other end. âYou little rascal, youâve slacked off again! And you skipped practice?â
Nora rubbed her ears that were stinging from their volume. âI have to sleep, Quinn. I donât have time.â
âThen send Cherry to me! Sheâs your daughter, so her body must be even more suitable than yours. Iâll take her on as an apprentice and make her succeed me! Have you found your son yet? Our style ultimately still suits boys better. Bring them both if you have found him.â
Nora replied lazily, âHas the Quinn School of Martial Arts become so destitute that it has to rely on a five-year-old to breathe new life into the school?â
Quinn shouted, ââ¦And whoâs to blame for that? Itâs all because I was blind enough to take someone as lazy as you as an apprentice! That Irvin guy keeps bragging about his apprentices to me. My apprentices canât be left behind either! Come to New York and have a showdown with his apprentices if youâre free!â
Quinn and Irvin were lifelong rivals.
Nora replied unhurriedly, âIâm not free.â
Then, before Quinn could get angry, she added, âBut I am coming to New York. Iâm taking Cherry to visit you.â
âWhen and what time? Iâll send someone to pick you up.â
After Quinn said that with enthusiasm, he immediately heard Noraâs soft laughter. The old man then said awkwardly, âThe one I miss is Cherry, not you!â.
Nora laughed again. He then hung up after informing her of his arrival date and time.
She grabbed a glass of water from the small table, took a couple of sips and went to take a bath.
Out of the house.
When Cherry, who had her cell phone in her hand, saw all this through the crack in the door, she said into the voice chat, âChesty, Momâs back!â
Pete said, âHide, Cherry. Dadâs gone down to get Mom.â
Cherry darted into the stairwell. And sure enough, she saw her handsome dad coming out of the elevator. When she reached his suite and saw that the door was open, she went straight in.
As soon as he entered, Chester hurried to lock the doors with a huge metal padlock.
Then he slipped into the stairwell and asked, âDid you make them drink what I gave you?â
Cherry replied, âYes, he drank it! I put it in his glass of water.â
Pete also replied, âThe tyrant drank it too.â
Chester then said, âPerfect! Cherry, your mission now is to keep Mrs. Lewis from coming back. Things will definitely heat up between your father and mother tonight!â
Cherry asked suspiciously, âWhat kind of drugs did you give Mom?â
Chester smiled, âKids shouldnât ask about things like that!â
It was that kind of drug, of course! Besides, since he knew Justin had good self-control, he had given them a fancy, enhanced version!
Inside the room.
Nora was taking a bath when suddenly she heard a noise outside. She stepped out with a bath towel and asked lazily, âCherry, Mrs. Lewis, are you back?â.
As she spoke, she noticed the man sitting on the couch.
