The hallway outside was filled with all kinds of noises.
However, the three of them on the stairs were silent.
Finally, after half a minute, Chester pointed at Cherry as if he had seen a ghost and stammered, âYouâ¦. Youâ¦â
Pete pursed his lips and sighed. âSince youâve seen us, then I wonât keep it a secret anymore.â
He said solemnly, âActually, I have a super-power: I can create clones. If you donât believe me, close your eyes. I will make my clone disappear.â
Chester was perplexed.
The corners of his lips tightened. âDo you really think Iâm that stupid, Pete? Iâm not buying it.â
Cherry put her hands to her mouth and leaned toward her brother. She seemed to want to whisper, but her voice was not at all soft as she asked, âSo, does Uncle Chester have a brain after all?â
Pete was puzzled, too. âIâll look it up when I get back-can single-celled organisms think?â
Chester was speechless. He felt humiliated.
But right afterward he said triumphantly, âThere are too many loopholes in your super-power. Can you really make a female version of yourself just because you can make a clone of yourself? Are you a hermaphrodite?â
That little girl wearing the Spiderman costume might have looked like a little boy, but she was Nora Smithâs daughter!
Cherry was confused.
Pete was puzzled.
As expected, single-celled organisms really do think differently.
The two cuties looked at each other. Cherry tilted her head and asked, âWhat do we do, Pete, do we silence him?â
Pete hesitated. âHeâs my uncle. We shouldnât do that.â
âOh.â Cherry felt a little disappointed.
The corners of Chesterâs lips spasmed again. He said, âIâm going to tell Justin that, in addition to a son, he also has a daughter!â
He ran off after saying that.
Pete was quick to shout, âUncle Chester!â.
Chester didnât stop, however.
Cherry panicked. She put her hands on her hips and shouted, âDonât you dare move, Chesty!â.
Chesterâs instinct to obey instructions whenever he played made him freeze instantly, and he even stood in a running position.
âCome back here!â
Chester obediently returned to the stairwell. He squatted down like a silly puppy and exclaimed, âSo youâre my leader!â
Cherry held her cheeks and bowed her head. âYes, thatâs right, Iâm Sweetcherry!â
⦠It turned out that their leader was not only five years old, but also a girl!
Chester felt very cheated.
Pete said, âYou mustnât tell Dad what happened today, Uncle Chester!â
Chester was perplexed. âWhy?â
Pete was silent for a moment. Then he said, âThink about it. If Dad knew that Cherryâs mother was the one who gave birth to me, what would he do?â
Chester felt as if his brain cells werenât working. He said, âHer mother? The one who gave birth to you? Shit, you mean Nora Smith is your fucking birth mother?â
ââ¦â
Chester finally understood why the two children didnât want him to tell the truth.
Five years ago, Justin had suddenly brought in a baby and had said it was his son. When everyone asked him who the childâs mother was, he flew into a rage and strictly forbade everyone at home from mentioning the childâs mother.
At the time, a few people were secretly wondering what exactly the woman who had given birth to Pete had done. Justin seemed to want to tear that woman to piecesâ¦..
Cherry adorably said, âChesty, I want a daddy and a brother, but I also want mommy. So I want them to fall in love first before we acknowledge each other. Then our family of four can be together, can you keep this a secret?â
Chester shook his head. âNo, I canât keep this a secret from Justin.â
Cherry instantly transformed into a sulky little ogre. âIf you tell Dad, I wonât take you on our forays anymore!â
Chester was speechless â that was a pretty serious threat!

Meanwhile, back in the VVIP room.
The three people who had returned were sitting quietly. Melissa looked a little embarrassed as she explained, âI donât mean anything by it, Justin. Iâve just been forced by circumstances to say that right now. Please donât misunderstand me.â
Although the Hunts were friends of the Anderson family, Justinâs identity was not as simple as that of the Huntsâ boss.
Besides, what he hated most was interacting with women. Melissa didnât want to offend him with what she had just said.
Justin stared at Nora.
The womanâs eyes were downcast as she stirred the water in her glass with boredom. Her glaring features and the icy aura that surrounded her made him unable to dislike her.
Not only was he not angry, there was even a smile at the corners of his eyes. âItâs okay.â
Melissa and Justin chatted amiably. When he realized that Nora was going to New York with him the day after tomorrow, Melissa smiled and said, âNora, your uncle and I were also thinking about you staying with us in New York.â
Her eyes reddened as she continued. âYour grandmother has cried so much since your motherâs disappearance that sheâs gone blind. Sheâs been talking about your mother all these years. Iâm sure sheâll be glad to see you.â
Nora had intended to decline the offer. She was an adult now; she didnât need to stay with them. But when she heard that, she paused and said, ââ¦Okay.â
The food was served after that, and the three of them began to eat.
Justin watched the woman in front of him. He noticed that her way of eating was very interesting. She liked to stuff large chunks of meat into her mouth and chew on them, but her carefree movements didnât seem crude.
Most women Justin had met chewed slowly, but she finished the steak on her plate in a few bites extremely efficiently.
How could he know that Nora didnât want to waste her time on anything but spending time with Cherry?
Melissa had just taken four bites when Nora set the silverware down. âAunt Melissa, I have something to do in a little while, so Iâll retire first.â
Melissa gaped.
Nora walked out of the private room after saying that. When she saw the text message from Mrs. Lewis saying that Cherry had already returned, she didnât bother to go upstairs. She hailed a cab and went out instead.
Although he knew it wasnât appropriate to leave the food halfway, he really had something to do. It had been two days since he had made an appointment with Wayne Myers, the Acting Director of Idealian Pharmaceuticals. At the time, his mother had entrusted him with the company and he had been running it for more than twenty years.
When Nora arrived at the cafeteria, Wayne was already there.
He stood up excitedly and said, âYouâre back in America, Nora! You must be 24 years old by now. If your mother could see you now, Iâm sure she would be very happy.â
Wayne managed the company with enthusiasm. Despite so many years having passed, he hadnât developed any thoughts he shouldnât have.
Nora nodded slightly. Then she took a seat and asked, âWayne, I asked you out today because I wanted to ask you if my mother left me anything besides the company. Or if she left me anything at the company?â
She had already looked into it.
Idealian Pharmaceuticals was really a small company with annual revenues of $5,000,000. Over the years, they even moved and changed the companyâs address a few times.
He didnât quite understand why the Grays and the Smiths were so obsessed with such a small company.
Wayne nodded solemnly and replied, âYes, he did!â
Nora looked at him. âWhat did he leave me?â
So, was the company really hiding something?
