Nora was surprised to hear that. She looked around and asked, âWhere is it?â.
Lucy replied, ââ¦. Since you didnât wake up, heâs gone again. He said heâll come visit you again today or tomorrow.â
It was the next morning, so Lisa was long gone.
He nodded his head. âOkay.â
He then texted Lisa and asked her to come over in the evening.
However, Lisa didnât agree right away. Instead, she asked, âUm, will Louis be there tonight?
gⱯlnÏνð®ðsâ¤com holds stories for every mood Nora: â?â
She looked around and asked, âIs Louis home?â
Lucy replied, âHe went out early in the morning â do you need him for anything, Miss Nora?â
âNo.â Nora thought for a while and asked, âWill he be home in the afternoon?â
Lucy replied, âMost likely not.â
âOkay.â
Nora sent Lisa a reply, âNo, she wonât.â
Lisa looked relieved. She wrote, âOkay. See you tonight, Nora.â
Nora: ââ¦â
She had only slept one night, but it seemed like amazing things had happened?
Why was one asking her to pick up Joel and the other avoiding Louis like she was afraid of something?
She looked at Lucy doubtfully, but in the end asked nothing. He went straight downstairs and headed for the villa on the outskirts.
As soon as he arrived, he saw Tanya, who was wearing an expression of circumstance at the door. When she saw her, she said with an angry look, âYou sure came here in a hurry.â
Nora yawned. âYeah, I havenât even had breakfast.â
The corners of Tanyaâs lips tightened. âShould you eat your breakfast and take a nap before you go, then?â
Nora laughed. âThat works, too.â
ââ¦â
Tanya took a deep breath, turned and ushered her into the house.
Inside, Joel was lying on the couch and comfortably reading a magazine. Next to him, Pete was practicing his Math Olympiad problems. Occasionally, when he found something he wasnât sure about, he would ask Joel, who would slowly explain it to him.
When Tanya first walked in and saw how the two of them got along, there was a moment when she had the illusion that they were a familyâ¦.
If⦠if her son were by her side, would they also live as happily as a family?
As soon as the thought formed, Tanya immediately dismissed it. She said, âI found you a driver.â
Joel and Pete looked at Nora in unison.
Peteâs eyes immediately lit up.
Joel nodded softly as well.
Tanya continued. âYouâve already taken the medicine, had some food and even slept here and gotten plenty of rest. Now that Iâve even found a driver for you, Iâm sure you can go.â
Joel stood up, his face still a little pale.
He was still holding his abdomen, but his smile was a little more genuine than usual. His foxy eyes were full of warmth and a loving look as he said, âYes.â
Tanya: ââ¦â
She turned and walked up the stairs. âAlright, hurry up, take your son and brother. Now I can finally get a good rest. Tomorrow is Monday, so I have to work. Teaching a bunch of naughty children to dance is very tiring, why is my life so hard?â
She went upstairs while muttering under her breath and then slammed the door to her room.
Nora, who had her hands in her pocket, raised her eyebrows and looked at Pete.
Pete had already taken the opportunity to pack his suitcase and was dutifully carrying it at the moment. He walked over to her and gripped her hand tightly.
Noticing how tightly her son gripped her hand, Nora immediately understood after a momentâs thought. She looked at him and explained, âMom was too sleepy when she got home yesterdayâ¦â.
âI know, Mom.â A well-mannered Pete replied, âDonât worry, Iâm not going to disturb your sleep.â
Nora: ââ¦â
She raised her head again and looked at Joel, but saw that Joel was still looking upstairs. Nora said, âShall we go?â
Only then did Joel retract his gaze and nod.
The two got out, but when they got into the car, Joel said, âIâll drive.â
ââ¦Are you all right?â asked Nora.
Joel nodded without changing his expression. âWell enough.â
â⦠Oh, okay,â said Nora.
Without dwelling on formalities, she took Pete and sat in the back seat while Joel went to the driverâs seat. On the way home, as Nora was thinking about something, Joel suddenly said, âSheâs still Uncle Ianâs adopted daughter after all.â
Nora was surprised.
Joel looked down and said casually, âTo be honest, Uncle Ian has been in a coma since he went to the Huntsâ party and brought you back. He has a brain tumor and must have surgery if he is to recover. Anti is said to be the only one who can get the best results for his operation at this time.â
Nora said, âI can take a look at him.â
Joel spoke again. This time, he sounded a little more intimate and also spoke more, as if he was giving her an explanation. He said, âDonât worry. From what I understand from Uncle Ian, since heâs already recognized you as Smith, he wonât care much about your identity. But since heâs still in a coma and canât give the word, other people in the family will have some misunderstandings about you.â
Was he giving her an explanation as to why he was acting this way toward her earlier?
However, Nora didnât care much. After all, it was understandable.
A man-especially a successful one like Ian-could have all the women in the world if he really wanted them, and yet the woman he had been deeply in love with his whole life had gotten into a relationship with his brother, in her opinion.
It would be too magnanimous if he really didnât care.
Joelâs words had also been that he âwouldnât mind so muchâ. Nora would never be so flattered and think that he would really treat her as his niece.
Joel, however, added: âBut he is someone who clearly distinguishes between his public and private interests. Yvonne is his daughter, so heâs the only one who can take care of her.â
Nora raised her eyebrows.
Was she okay with interpreting what she had just said to mean that Ian would end up taking care of Yvonne?
She hadnât expected Joel to defend her.
Thinking about how Yvonne had tempted Florence to poison Old Maddy in order to go against her, Nora narrowed her eyes and said, âOkay.â
Joel drove earnestly and spoke no more.
Joel didnât get out of the car when they arrived at the Smithsâ house. He explained, âI have to take care of something at the company.â
After slacking off for a day at the villa, he had to pay back what he owed, after all.
Nora nodded.
She took Pete back to the house and they had lunch together.
In the afternoon, she sent a text message to Lisa: âAre you here yet?
Lisa replied, âIâm on my way. Iâll be there soon.â
Nora put the phone aside and waited for Lisa.
Her aunt must have watched the live broadcast and had been worried when she heard about the case, so she had sent Lisa here. Her aunt would probably remain concerned until Lisa saw with her own eyes that she was okay.
Also, for some reason, she had a vague feeling that Lisa would bring her some kind of news when she arrived.
