As soon as she said that, all the servants in the room looked at Yvonne.
Yvonneâs eyes widened and she became nervous. Then she took a deep breath and said firmly, âIsnât that my mosquito repellent, Madame Florence, why did you take it?â
Mosquito repellent?
Florence was stunned.
In a split second, she understood everything.
She looked at the pill in amazement and then looked back at Yvonne. She felt as if her mind had gone completely blank in that instant.
Was the woman in front of him really the Miss Yvonne he had always thought of as kind, generous and understanding?
How could she lie⦠How could she lie?
She had clearly told him that it was a Rest Pill and had told him to give it to Old Maddy, nearly causing his death!
Yvonne, however, took a step back. âMadame Florence, why are you looking at me like that?â
Why was he looking at her like that
Florence took a deep breath, and suddenly made a decision.

When Nora woke up, it was already light outside.
She opened her eyes slowly, feeling as if needles were being stuck in her head. Her eyebrows drew together, and she reached out her fingers and pressed them against her head. He was about to say something when a pair of strong, warm hands pressed against his head and gently massaged his temples.
The pain gradually subsided and his tightly knit eyebrows relaxed at last. He looked at the man massaging him.
Justin was still wearing the same clothes as the day before. From the looks of it, he hadnât been out all night.
Despite not having slept a wink all night, the man didnât seem discouraged at all. Only the corners of his eyes revealed a certain weariness.
In the dim light of the interrogation room, his beauty mark lost some of its usual fierceness and became a little more seductive.
Without realizing it, she thought about how the man had taken Morris hostage and told him to leave the day before. She stretched, stood up, and asked nonchalantly, âWerenât you afraid heâd run away?â
A smiling Justin looked at her and replied, âYou wouldnât.â
Nora paused in her stretching and asked, âWhy, because of the children?â
âOf course not,â Justin pulled out a handkerchief and handed it to her, âIt was because you said youâre in love with me.â
Nora: ââ¦â
The corners of her lips tightened. She took the handkerchief from him and wiped her face nonchalantly. Then, she hears him say, âIt was a joke. It was because I know youâre not someone like that.â
She froze again.
To be honest, the two of them hadnât spent much time together since their return to America. In fact, the man didnât even know many of her mysterious identities.
Despite this, he had trusted her even in a situation like this.
She put down the handkerchief with which she was wiping her face. For some reason, as she gazed at the manâs handsome face, her heart skipped a beat.
She hastened to turn around and asked, âIs there anything to eat?â
She had slept the whole time after returning the night before, and had been asleep for fourteen hours. Although she was still sleepy, she had to get up and replenish her energy. Otherwise, her body wouldnât be able to take it.
âYes, there is.â
The man calmly replied. After pulling out his phone and sending a message, someone opened the door and came in with a food cart.
Morris, who had rushed over when he heard that Nora had woken up, looked worried, as the corners of his lips spasmed at the sight of them.
Those two⦠They were treating the interrogation room like it was a hotel, werenât they?
The man had not only prepared a bed, but had brought in a sink and toiletries while Nora was still asleep. In fact, he had even brought hot food carts into the room first thing in the morning.
Every half hour, as the food cooled, he would distribute it to the people at the police station.
Justin did this so that Nora would have fresh food to eat every time she woke up!
Morris had never seen anyone spoil his wife more than Justin.
He walked into the room. He was about to speak when Justin suddenly raised his hand and stopped him. He said, âCaptain Ford, wait until she finishes eating if you have anything to say, lest she get indigestion.â
Morris: ââ¦â
He pulled up a chair and sat down in it.
The interrogation room was clearly their turf, but the two were so relaxed it was as if they were in a hotel. After finishing her breakfast quietly, Nora finally looked at Morris and asked, âCaptain Ford, is there any progress on the case?â
âYes, there is.â
Morris said, âThe person who poisoned Old Maddy is Florence Stone. We have brought her with us. Sheâs in the interrogation room next door.â
As soon as he said that, Justin said, âThat poison isnât something an ordinary servant can easily obtain, is it?â
Morris nodded. âYouâre right. I take the medicine from Yvonne Smithâs room.â
Nora frowned. âAnd so?â
Morris said, âItâs relatively difficult to convict Yvonne Smith of the crime. Since there is no real evidence to prove that it was Yvonne Smith who had Florence Stone poison Old Maddy, what she did was, at best, trick someone into committing a crime. Besides, Stoneâ¦has admitted to doing it on her own.â
She had admitted it?
Nora suddenly said, âIâll go talk to Florence.â
âOkay.â

In the interrogation room.
Nora saw Florence, who had been detained.
She looked tired and haggard, as if she hadnât slept a wink all night because of the fright. However, when she saw Nora, the look in her eyes suddenly became fierce and wild.
Nora went straight to the point. She merely asked, âWhy?â
Why was she taking the blame for Yvonne?
Florence was definitely not the one who had poisoned Old Maddy.
The woman was showing all her emotions out in the open, and she was also a straightforward, outspoken person who had ridiculed and teased Nora at home. She was very protective of Ian in everything she said, so it was absolutely impossible for her to do anything that would embarrass the Smiths.
Florence understood what he meant.
She teased, âBecause sheâs the Elder Lordâs daughter. Even if sheâs only an adopted daughter, sheâs still his daughter, While you bring him shame!â
Florence lowered her head. âI am indebted to the Elder Lord. There is nothing I can do to repay him, except this.â
Nora frowned. âBut sheâs not a good person.â
âSo what if sheâs a good person, so what if sheâs a bad person?â Florence became agitated. Her eyes reddened as she stared at Nora. âBack then, your mother was a good person too! She saved a lot of people. I thought she was a good person too, so why did she betray the Elder Lord? Do you have any idea how she lived all these years?â

The Smiths knew nothing of the conversation between Florence and Nora at the police station.
Joel was sitting in the study with his eyes downcast.
The door opened and Yvonne walked in uneasily. âDid you call for me, Joel?â
Joel looked up. âItâs impossible that Madame Florence poisoned Old Maddy. Both you and I know that very well.â
Yvonne bit her lip and simply refused to admit it. She said, âWhat do you mean by that, Joel? I donât understand what youâre saying. Even Madame Florence herself has already admitted it. I-â
But before he could finish, Joel had already interrupted him. He said, âUncle Ian hates people who break the law and break the rules the mostâ¦. Even if you are his daughter, you canât do that! Madame Florence may not expose you, but the Smiths will never tolerate or approve of such vileness!â
