The next day.
When Nora came out of her bedroom with a yawn after waking up, she saw Maureen sitting in the small living room on the second floor. Seeing her come out of her bedroom, Maureen immediately approached. âAre you awake, Nora?â
Nora nodded.
Maureen was obviously waiting for her. She asked, âI heard thatâ¦umâ¦. Youâre thinking of treating Old Maddyâs illness?â
Nora nodded again.
Before this, she hadnât thought Old Maddy was very important, so she hadnât paid any attention to him. Later, she found out that it might be Ryan, but that he had indeed gotten sick and lost his mind. Besides, he didnât remember much of his past anymore.
After thinking about it the night before, Nora decided to treat his illness.
If she cured his illness, she could tell him what had happened to Ryan and his mother back then.
Of course, treating Old Maddyâs illness wasnât going to be easy. For one thing, he was a madman, so Nora would need the Smiths to keep a constant eye on him and keep him from running all over the place.
Truth be told, if he kept visiting Old Maddy, he would undoubtedly attract other peopleâs attention.
Therefore, she decided to simply inform the butler of her intention to treat Old Maddyâs illness. By being open with her actions, she would avoid a lot of unnecessary trouble and suspicion.
However, she did not expect all the Smiths to know after only one night.
Maureen was in a fierce internal struggle. She said, âActually, Uncle Ian had asked someone to take a look at Old Maddyâs illness earlier. The person he had invited was even a very professional doctor who is said to be the best known psychiatrist in the world, but still, he failed to cure Old Maddy. Nora, I know youâre anxious to demonstrate your skills as a doctor, but I still donât think itâs necessary to use Old Maddy as a springboardâ¦â
Maureen and Warren had immediately met to secretly discuss the matter after hearing the news. They were both of the same opinion that Nora had possibly made the sudden decision because of her job.
She was a doctor, yet no one in New York dared approach her for a medical consultation.
Thatâs why she had chosen someone with a difficult-to-cure disease, so she could make a name for herself, right?
So, Maureen had approached her right away. She was not one to mince words, so she had expressed her thoughts bluntly.
Nora really liked her directness. That way she didnât have to waste time guessing what exactly he was thinking. She also answered bluntly, âIâm not using him to make a name for myself. I really intend to cure him.â
After saying this, he went downstairs to the kitchen to look for food.
Maureen: ââ¦â
After hearing Noraâs reply, she returned to the bedroom.
Warren was comfortably lying in the recliner and basking in the sun. When he heard the door open, he asked, âHow did you do, did he give up?â
Maureen shook her head.
Warren frowned. Then he scoffed, âSheâs stubborn, isnât she? Since she insists on doing it, let her do what she wants! Hmph! She doesnât understand how impressive Uncle Ianâs medical equipment is, at all. Thereâs no way she can cure the mental illness that even they canât do anything against.â
Maureen rolled her eyes.
âBut if she wants to treat her illness, she can. At best, weâll just keep a closer eye on Old Maddy in the future, AND tell the outsiders that sheâs shown signs of improvement!â
What could she do if that was what her little sister insisted on doing?
Maureen laughed. âYou really are a man who says one thing but means another!â
Warren snorted. âHow annoying. I have enough to do every day, AND I still have to clean up her mess for her! Geez, if you run into anyone while youâre out, and if they ask you about her, just tell them that it looks like her condition is much improved and at least sheâs not going crazy anymore. Make Old Maddyâs condition seem as would be as possible.â
âNo problem!â

Elsewhere.
After filling her stomach a bit, Nora prepared to go to the backyard to look for Old Maddy.
Old Maddyâs illness was in his brain, but it wasnât as if something bad had formed in his brain; rather, it was a neurological problem and surgery was futile. His condition called instead for an alternative medicine.
The night before, I had carefully studied his condition and had decided to use acupuncture on him.
On her way out, she happened to pass Yvonne, who was on her way in. Nora looked away as they passed each other. She was about to walk past when Yvonne greeted her with a smile. âGoing to the backyard, Nora?â she asked.
Nora stopped and gave her a long look.
The two had just had an argument the day before, but the woman no longer seemed to be upset about it. She really was a very scary person.
She curved her lips disdainfully and replied, âYes.â
Then, without further ado, she headed for the backyard.
Yvonne lowered her gaze and curved her lips into a smirk.
So she wanted to cure Old Maddy and make a name for herself? She sure thought highly of herself.
Yvonne would wait to see how she made a fool of herself .
