The cashier: “…”

Ten cans, another ten cans…. A hundred cans, another hundred cans….

Even when all the cans of pet food in the store were gone, the card still wasn’t at its limit.

Louis gaped. “How much money is on there?”

The cashier: “…”

Louis gestured and said, “Okay, that’s enough. Keep the rest here for now, I’ll come pick it up tomorrow!”

The cashier finally let out a sigh of relief.

She was really scared. The whale in front of her had bought practically the entire store.

Louis stared at the bank card in his hand after leaving the pet food store. He had just bought next month’s cat and dog food at the store and had spent a total of almost $50,000.

Even so, the card still didn’t seem to be maxed out.

She decided to go to the bank to check her balance.

The phone finally stopped ringing.

When Nora saw from the phone notifications that Louis had spent about $50,000 at the pet food store with his card, she knew right away that he had ordered his next month’s supply of cat and dog food.

But couldn’t he pay for it all at once? Why did he have to pay $13.90 and $13.90 over and over again?

He shook his head. Unable to understand, he just shoved the phone in his pocket.

As soon as she looked up, she saw Cherry and Justin, who were sitting across from her, looking at her curiously.

Justin said nothing.

Cherry asked, “Who just texted you, Mom?”

Nora looked at her and replied, “No one.”

Almost as soon as she said that, a faint voice said, “So, no one sent you 157 messages?”.

Nora: “?????”

Cherry: “????”

They both looked at Justin in unison, only to see that his usually deep, bottomless eyes were looking innocently at her at that moment. Even the beauty mark in the corner of her eye seemed to give off a feeling of having suffered some sort of injustice, as if she had done something behind his back.

Nora: “…”

She pursed her lips and asked suddenly, “I hear you have a marital arrangement with Yvonne Smith?”

Her one sentence made Justin sit up straight. His expression turned serious and he replied, “I have to clarify this: my marital agreement is with a daughter of the Smiths, not specifically with Yvonne Smith. Come to think of it, this may be fate between you and me. No wonder you made love to me your first priority as soon as you saw me.”

Nora: “…”

Why did he have to pause between the two syllables of the word ‘love’, making her feel as if she had flunked her English classes and misunderstood something?

When she looked back at Justin, he was still sitting where he was with a serious look on his face. He was wearing a black suit today and looked very serious. He probably didn’t mean what she thought he meant, did he?

Nora raised her eyebrows. “Oh.”

She stood up, glanced into Cherry’s room and asked, “Where does Pete live?”

After all, she cared about her son and wanted to see what her son’s room had become.

But as soon as he asked the question, Justin and Cherry exchanged a glance.

Seeing that their expressions didn’t seem quite right, Nora frowned. “There’s no way Pete doesn’t have a place to live, right?”

“He does, but…” Justin found it hard to explain in a few words. He said, “But because I had misunderstood his sexual orientation before… cough, and also because Cherry likes pink, I renovated it into a pink-themed room to make the little girl happy.”

Nora: “!!!!”

She looked at Justin with a complex look. “Are you sure you don’t need me to take a look at your brain?

What kind of person would follow her son’s wishes and turn the room pink after suspecting he wasn’t straight?

The corners of her lips tightened. She was about to speak when Justin stood up and said, “I have pictures of Pete when he was a baby. Do you want to see them?”

Effectively, that distracted Nora and she tuned her attention away from the subject of the pink room. She followed Justin into the next room.

When Justin pulled out a photo album of Pete’s pictures, Nora started flipping through it from the top.

The first picture was of a tiny baby. His skin was dark all over and he looked pitifully thin.

“Is that from when Pete was a month old?” asked Nora.

Since the twins had been born prematurely, they were actually both a little thin when they were born. Cherry looked like a normal fifteen-day-old baby when she turned one month old.

Pete’s picture looked similar to Cherry’s when she was a month old.

Justin was quiet for a while before replying, “Yeah, I guess.”

Although Pete was rescued, his health had suffered greatly. It was only because the Hunts were powerful enough and had their own high-end medical equipment that they managed to slowly restore his health at the cost of a lot of money.

When he was a month old, he had even been sent to the ICU several times and had tubes inserted throughout his body.

However, Justin had no intention of telling the woman all that.

Nora was silent for a long time.

She had already seen the date stamped on the bottom of the photo.

It was a picture of Pete when he was six months old.

Even if Justin didn’t mention anything, she could imagine how much Pete had suffered back then. Why else would he have mild autism?

Nora let out a quiet sigh and stopped talking. Instead, she continued to flip through the album in silence.

Pete at one year old looked about the same as Cherry did at three months old.

However, since Pete was still a toddler, he had gradually caught up to Cherry. As a result, the siblings were about the same height.

Pete had lagged behind for half a year.

In photos, the little boy always remained expressionless and looked calmly into the camera. His unlit eyes, which looked identical to Cherry’s big, round ones, were gradually gaining some light.

This was all thanks to Justin taking care of him.

Nora flipped through the album from beginning to end. Towards the end, she even saw occasional pictures of Pete with the corners of his lips twisted upwards. He was probably smiling, wasn’t he?

Nora felt terribly excited.

It felt like every emotion she would ever experience in her entire life had come up in that instant.

She had never felt so affected. Even when her son had been taken from her, she had felt only fury.

She repressed the harshness in her heart and slowly raised her head to look at Justin. “Thank you.”

“If anyone has to say thank you,” Justin also looked at her, “then I should be the one to say it. Thank you for giving me two such lovely family members.”

Since his parents divorced and his mother moved away from the family when he was five years old, he had lost his parents’ love and care for him.

After being alone for so many years, he had once considered staying alone for the rest of his life. In the past he had not understood kinship or family feelings, but Pete’s existence had slowly given him something to look forward to.

Rather than saying that he had saved Pete, it was more that Pete had given him salvation during the five years he had cared for him.

Nora, who seemed to sense his emotional fluctuations, looked at him.

She suddenly felt that she shouldn’t have developed thoughts of taking Pete away from him. He was, after all, the boy’s father.

At the bank.

Louis walked into the lobby, took a number and sat in line.

When it was his turn, he pulled out his bank card and handed it to the clerk at the counter. “Please check the balance on this card for me.”

The bank clerk looked up. When she saw the bank card in her hand, she was shocked.
