Maureen didnât know what was wrong with herself to ask such a question.
True computer experts were actually very hard to find.
Even with her family and the Smiths together, they couldnât find a top-notch hacker. Joel had paid a lot to hire the Smithsâ current hacker.
It was said that, when he came in for the interview, Joel, who at the time did not know his background, had asked, âWhy should I pay you such a high annual salary?â
The man had pulled out his computer without a word. Two minutes later, someone from the IT department had reported, âMr. Smith, the company network is down!â
Joel had then looked at the hacker in front of him. After the hacker typed for another two minutes, the network was back up and running. The hacker even said, âI have upgraded the company firewall to the highest security level. Unless Q and Y are in place, no one can breach my firewall.â
With that, the man became a legend in one move and went on to be adored by the Smiths.
Needless to say, there was no way he was going to help that easily.
He had completely ignored them even when there were problems with Warrenâs gaming companyâs software. The Smithsâ computer experts they had previously turned to for help were the people under his command.
Unfortunately, none of them could locate the problem.
Maureen regretted asking the question right after she did. How was Nora to know anything if neither the Lights nor Warren could find anything?
Why did she have to ask something that would put the other party in such a bind?
She smiled awkwardly and said, âItâs okay even if you donât know any. None of us know one anywayâ¦.. There are so many programmers out there, but why are there so few real computer scientists?â
Nora: ââ¦â
That was because the best geniuses wouldnât work at a game company.
Either they were protecting the countryâs national cybersecurity â where they were known as white hats â or they had already been hired by certain corporations. Another possibility was that they were self-employed, like Solo. They made a lot of money that way, too.
Could a gaming company like his have a hacker stay with them?
Watching Maureenâs head duck again and her eyes redden, Nora was quiet for a while before finally saying, âI do know one.â
Maureen: â?â
Her head snapped up and she looked at Nora in disbelief. âReally, who is he, is he famous, would it be expensive for us to hire them as a software engineerâ¦no, as a consultant, I mean, in our company?â
Nora coughed. âNo, heâs not. Itâs enough to give you a few hundred dollars.â
He was just doing them a small favor anyway. That little bug in their game was a piece of cake for him.
Maureen frowned. âSo cheap, is it reliable?â
She hastened to explain, âIâm not questioning his abilities. What I mean is that most experts are really expensive to hire and theyâre also very mysteriousâ¦â
Nora waved her hand. âOkay. His name is Solo. Iâll let you know.â
In a dark room outside.
A few computer screens glowed dimly in the dark. A thin man in front of a computer was eagerly typing a program when he suddenly sneezed.
As he rubbed his nose, he couldnât help but wonder who might be thinking about him.
Then he plunged back into his intense work.
A while later, his phone rang.
He was so engrossed in writing his program that he didnât bother to look at the phone. He continued to stare at the computer screen. Soon after, however, his phone automatically connected and Noraâs voice rang. âWhat are you doing?â
Solo was so shocked that his hands shook. He accidentally entered a bunch of meaningless code into the computer, messing up the program instantly.
Solo: ââ¦â
She glanced aside, looked at the phone and said ominously, âCan you not be so bossy, Anti? All I did was miss a call, and youâre already hacking my phone?â.
Nora replied, â⦠Itâs because your phone is too easy to hack. If it were a little more troublesome, I wouldnât waste my time doing it either.â
Just: ââ¦â
Listen to what he was saying. Was that what a decent human being was supposed to say?
The resigned man picked up the phone and pressed the answer button stubbornly, as if thatâs the way it should be to be on the phone. He asked, âWhatâs up, do you need me to do something again?â
âYes. Do me a small favor.â
âWhat is it?â
âHelp myâ¦â He was silent for a while before finally saying, ââ¦my cousin, I guess. Heâs run into a little problem with his companyâs game. Take a look at it.â
Solo asked nosily, âWhat do you mean, your cousin? How many cousins do you have?â
ââ¦â
âAnti, youâre not someone who gives trouble. Besides, what do I get if I help him? I owe you a favor, but I donât owe him any.â
Nora said unhurriedly, âIf you become an advisor to his company, Iâll forgive the debt you owe me.â
Just: â?â
I was absolutely stunned. âHave you suddenly found your conscience? Is the lady finally willing to release her captive? No problem! I can do it.â
If helping a small gaming company and being their consultant could pay back what he owed the other party for saving his life, Then it was too good a deal for him!
He just didnât realize that he had already been brainwashed by Noraâs oppressive ways.

On the Smiths.
Nora called Solo to her room. After he agreed, she hung up and went out.
When she left, Pete, who was lying on the bed, suddenly opened his eyes.
Light flickered in his dark eyes as he stared at the door. Judging by what Mommy had said, was she really a world-class hacker?
Mommy was so awesome! He had to be even more awesome in the future in order to be worthy of being her son! As for Cherry⦠Forget it, heâd let her play.
It was enough for her to follow in Momâs footsteps.
Nora was completely unaware of the extent to which the little one had already thought. She found Maureen sitting outside and waiting for her when she came out. She asked her, âHow did it go?â
Nora nodded and replied, âHeâs accepted. Iâll set up a group chat for you guys later. You can tell him in the chat which part is flawed. He will help you.â
Maureen nodded. âOkay! Iâll go tell Warren.â
She walked into the room excited.
Warrenâs game had just gotten underway that day, so things were relatively rushed, and at that moment he was in a huge panic. As he watched her walk in, he asked, âHave you talked to Yvonne?â
Maureen shook her head.
Warren said, âHavenât I already said Iâm coming? Yet you had to stop me. See, itâs because you donât dare step back. Weâre a family, itâs quite normal for us to have conflicts, whatâs the problem?â
I was about to leave when Maureen said, âNo, what I mean is that I found you a hacker as a consultant for your company.â
Warren: â?â
He was puzzled. Then, he stretched out his hand and waved in front of Maureen. âHave you gone dumb, do you think itâs that easy to find a hacker? You didnât get fooled by someone, did you?â.
Maureen immediately replied, âI donât think so. Donât think too much about it for now. Show him the bug in the game first. As for whether heâs really a hacker, and whether heâs any good or not, wonât you know once you let him try it?â
Warren, however, was very doubtful. âHow can I send our game software to other people so casually? Tell me the name of the hacker you found. Iâll look him up on the Internet.â
âHis name is Solo,â Maureen replied.
Yvonne, who had hacked Warrenâs phone and was listening to them, curved her lips disdainfully.
