Maureen was someone who refused to embarrass herself. If she asked someone for help, she would pay them or do something for that person. No matter what, she would always repay the debt she owed.
Just a moment ago she had been angry with Yvonne because of Brandon, and now she had to ask him for help?
There was no way he was going to make himself do that.
Warren scratched his head. âItâs okay, sheâs my little sister. Itâs okay if I go and approach her. It doesnât count as asking her for help. Weâre family.â
Maureen held her husband who was about to leave. âIâve had enough, Warren! Look at your sonâs ass! If we were really a family, would you have spanked his ass if he stepped on your foot?â
Warren was taken aback.
Maureen pointed at him and ranting, âPrecisely because you always feel you owe her a favor, you unknowingly behave as if youâre beneath her. Yes, Yvonne is indeed of the direct lineage of the Smiths, but deep down she is still only an adopted daughter. I have never seen you so weak even when you are in front of Joel! Why canât you say a single word in front of her?â.
Maureen was getting more and more beaten up as she spoke. Her eyes turned red and she cried as she screamed, âThink of the injustice youâve put me through all these years. Letâs talk about Almas caviar the other time. Itâs clear that you know that I like caviar the most, while she doesnât care whether she eats it or not, but you still forced me to give her two thirdsâ¦. You know, my mother only managed to buy Almas caviar after asking someone for a favor and spending a lot of money! She couldnât even bear to eat it herself, AND she had given it all to me!â.
Maureen wiped away her tears and continued. âBefore I was willing to overlook certain things, But now you have to set the record straight! Sheâs your younger sister and you have a sister complex. Itâs not a problem that you want to spoil her, But sheâs not related to me by blood! She hasnât done anything for me either! Why do I have to repay her for the favors sheâs done for you, too?â
Warren scratched his head. He was startled and said, âDonât cry, my dear. Iâ¦I just thought good things should be shared, thatâs all.â
âYes, of course! It doesnât matter that she likes Almas caviar too, The problem is that she doesnât like it at all! Iâve seen with my own eyes that she didnât dare to eat the Almas caviar after she prepared it, So she gave it to Florence, the housekeeper! Iâve kept all this to myself and never brought it up before, But donât you dare go too far!
You have two choices today, Warren Smith. One-you go to her and we get a divorce, Iâm not taking this crap anymore! The second-you give up her software consulting position at the company, or you pay her a salary. You can even give her dividends if you want! But donât owe her any more favors.â
Maureen hugged herself angrily and sobbed loudly after speaking.
She was full of grievances after her son suffered a beating.
But now she had to go beg Yvonne to help her. She was so full of grievances that she couldnât be more aggrieved than that.
Brandon was already feeling pain from the beating, but he had been holding it in all this time. However, when he saw that his mother was upset, he immediately went over and shoved Warren. Then, he hugged Maureen and burst into tears as well. She said, âDonât cry mom! Donât cry! We wonât talk to mean daddy anymore! If he makes you mad, Iâll take the ventilator off his oxygen tank when heâs older!â.
ââ¦â
The corners of Warrenâs lips spasmed. âYou little brat! Do you have a conscience or not?â
Maureen also burst into laughter after holding it in for a brief moment.
Brandonâs words immediately dispelled the gloomy mood in the room.
Warren stepped forward and put his arm around Maureenâs shoulders. âItâs all right, itâs all right, my dear. Even though I donât quite understand what you were saying, nor do I understand whatâs so delicious about Almas caviar, Iâll take your advice, okay? We wonât go to Yvonne anymore. Iâll hire an expert hacker from outside, okay?â.
The tearful Maureen nodded.
She took another deep breath before looking at Warren and asking, âReally?â
âYes, really.â Then Warren sighed and said, âWhy didnât you tell me about Almas caviar before? If you had told me, I would have bought some from you. Given the Smith connections, isnât it a cinch to buy it?â.
Maureen tapped him on the shoulder. âYou think Almas caviar is that easy to find?â
Warren, however, was full of confidence. âDonât worry, Iâm sure Iâll buy you some!â.
The family of three finally reconciled and embraced happily. Because Maureen had cried so much, her eyes were red and puffy, so she was embarrassed to go downstairs for dinner. Warren decided to take the food upstairs instead.
When he came downstairs, he happened to see Yvonne and Joel eating. He smiled and said, âThe brat has a swollen butt because of me, so he doesnât want to come downstairs. Weâll eat upstairs instead.â
She then instructed the servants to bring the food up to their room.
Joel didnât think much of it and concentrated on feeding Mia.
Yvonne raised her eyebrows.
She thought Warren couldnât help but talk to her. This way, Maureen would definitely be embarrassed, then she would force Brandon to come over and apologize to her.
He simply loved watching Maureen having to practice leniency even though it was obvious that she felt terribly wronged.
She was the real mistress of the house.
But why wasnât Warren acting according to plan?
Upstairs, the family of three went to bed after dinner.
However, reality always called after a moment of commotion.
After sleeping for a while, Maureen was awakened by the heat. She opened her eyes and discovered that Brandonâs limbs were on top of her. The little guy was as hot as an oven.
She pulled the little guy off of her and got up with the intention of getting a drink of water. It was then that she discovered that there was no one on the other side of Brandon.
Surprised, she stood up. She could vaguely hear sounds coming from the balcony of the suiteâs study. She drank a glass of water and walked over.
When she got there, she saw that, because Warren didnât want to wake the two of them, he was not only in the study, but had even gone out on the balcony and was talking on the phone to someone. He lowered his voice and said, âCanât you find the cause? How is that possible? Didnât I say you can get outside help? If it really doesnât work, you can borrow someone from the Smiths. Joel has a hacker.â
The person he was on the phone with replied, âIâve already contacted him, boss, but he says he doesnât know what the problem is. What do we do now?â
Things would get really complicated if even the Smithsâ hacker couldnât detect the problem.
Warren frowned.
The other party, who was in charge of operations, said, âItâs been over 24 hours since the game went live. The forums are full of negative comments right now. If we still canât fix the bug in 36 hours, players will definitely doubt our ability. We were still able to vaguely find the cause of the previous bug, but this time we simply canât find it at all!â
Warren ran his hand through his hair, so worried that he was almost going bald. âWhat would happen if we donât manage to fix it?â
The operations manager was quiet for a moment before replying, âWeâll lose all the money we invested in the initial phases! Boss, you said you wanted to create a perfect game, so from production planning to art and design, we hired only the best. In fact, we even hired a master painter to do the scenery designs, so every drawing is super expensive! The loss will be too muchâ¦â.
Warren had dividends from the company. He could also ask Joel for money if he had no more money.
But he also had his own ideals and that was to set up a game company.
Therefore, he had invested almost all his savings in gambling.
