Chapter 291

Nora1,329 words~7 min read

Warren was surprised the moment he said that.

Maureen asked in surprise, “Can you understand that?”

Nora nodded. She was about to speak when Yvonne’s voice reached them. “Were you looking for me Warren?”

Seeing Yvonne, Warren instantly stood up and walked over with the computer. He said, “Yvonne, come and take a look at this for me, what’s up with the game? None of the technicians in the computer department can find the problem. If this keeps up…the game is already up and running. We will lose all the players.”

Nora: “?”

When she looked doubtful, Maureen explained, “Yvonne is a software consultant at the company. She always goes to her for help if there are problems that the technicians can’t solve.”

Maureen curved her lips in disdain. When she saw that Yvonne and Warren had turned away with the computer, she couldn’t help but sigh. “I feel so miserable Nora.”

Nora?

Nora raised her eyebrows. She still didn’t feel that familiar with Maureen. However, the sight of her brooding gaze made her feel too embarrassed to say that, so she preferred to say nothing and adopt the role of listener instead.

Maureen let out a sigh. “Although my family, the Lights, is not as wealthy and prosperous as the Smiths, it can still be said that we are a well-to-do family. My parents have always spoiled me, and never thought of making a profit through my marriage to the Smiths. Warren and I fell in love with each other. Joel, the current head of the family, can be considered a fair and just man, so he didn’t force Warren into a political marriage or anything like that. When I tell you these things, I’m sure you’ll think I lead a very blissful life, won’t you?”

“…”

Nora meant that she heard nothing that the woman should find blissful. It seemed that the only thing that was going well was that she had freedom in her marriage….

As she thought about it, Maureen sighed and continued. “But who knows what kind of life I’ve really led in the Smiths…”

She turned to look at Yvonne, lowered her voice and whispered, “Do you know, when Warren asked Yvonne to be a consultant in his company, he wanted to pay her a salary, but she turned him down. After all, she has money. She also refused when I suggested she become a shareholder. Sounds good, and it makes her seem especially big-hearted, doesn’t it?”

Nora nodded. She wanted to say that, since they were a family, Yvonne had done the right thing.

Maureen sighed. “Yes, after word of the incident spread, everyone was talking about how kind and pure Miss Smith was, how loving she was to her brother, and how at peace with the world…but just look at Warren there…”

Nora looked accordingly and saw Warren standing, while Yvonne was seated. Warren was standing next to Yvonne as her lackey and pointing at the computer screen excitedly.

Every time Yvonne said something, Warren would nod immediately and repeatedly, like a dog…very obedient.

As soon as the thought formed in Nora’s mind, Maureen spoke again. She said, “Did you see that? She has Warren completely wrapped around her little finger. Gee. I have quite a nest egg since I married into the family, and Warren gets a lot of dividends from the company every year, too. When we started the gaming company, we just wanted to do something to make life not so boring. After all, there are a lot of restrictions and limitations if you work at Smith Corporation. It’s not a big deal for Warren to turn to the computer geniuses at Smith Corporation if he has a problem with his software, is it? If it still doesn’t solve the problem, I’m even willing to pay a lot to hire a super hacker. But Warren keeps saying that it doesn’t make sense to have someone from the outside do it when his little sister is at home.

But once he asks for her help, our standard of living can’t beat Yvonne’s anymore. I like caviar, so my family sent me some Almas caviar, which is very precious and almost impossible to buy. Warren then said, ‘This caviar is great. Let’s give some to Yvonne.’ If I refuse, I’ll look like a cheapskate; but if I give it to her, half the amount is too little, so I’ll have to give her two-thirds, no matter what…”

Maureen continued to complain. “She’s the Smith’s young lady, so she eats the best food, drinks the best drinks, and wears the best clothes. I can understand all that, but we have to give her all the things my husband buys, as well as the best things the family gets…”

As she spoke, Maureen paused and looked at Nora. She said, “I know I’m sure you’ll say that since he’s helped us, we should give in to him a little on the little things in life. But, you know, I’d rather spend the money and hire a computer guy because we’d both at least be on equal footing since I paid for it. I don’t want to owe him a favor that I can never repay…”.

He let out another melancholy sigh. Then, he looked at Nora and said, “Gee, never mind. I’m sure you’ll think I’m complaining. After all, there are people who don’t even have enough to eat, and yet I’m complaining about having too little Almas caviar…”

Nora: “…”

To be honest, she understood.

She also hated owing people favors the most. It was like when Solo had been seriously ill back then. Because she had discovered his condition in time and had operated on him, she had saved his life.

Solo had always wanted to pay her instead of working for her, but she knew that he would definitely disappear after taking the money, which, in turn, would lead to her having to personally take care of a lot of annoying things later.

It was taking up too much of her sleep.

Therefore… cough.

When she thought about it like that, it seemed like she had become the same kind of person as Yvonne.

In that case, did he just find her too annoying as well?

For the first time-and in an unusual move-Nora began to reflect on herself.

Yvonne, on the other hand, kept her eyes on Maureen out of the corner of her eye as she looked at Warren’s programming code.

She didn’t know what Maureen was saying, but she kept talking affectionately to Nora.

A hint of dissatisfaction flashed in her eyes.

How nice was she to Warren and his wife? Had they already gone over to Nora’s side so quickly?

He looked down and suddenly edited some of the programming code. Then she smiled and said, “The problem is now solved.”

Warren immediately gave her a thumbs up. “You are amazing Yvonne – all those people in the company can’t compare to you alone! Let me see… The bug is really gone! That’s amazing!”

Warren thanked Yvonne and went off to the side to make a phone call.

At that moment, the children finally arrived home.

Joel had not picked them up from the garden because of an important meeting, so it was the butler who picked up the three children.

Nora carried Cherry while Mia went upstairs to change. Brandon bounced around Maureen mischievously.

Yvonne looked at them and then at Warren. She thought of Maureen’s earnest and enthusiastic attitude toward Nora a moment ago. Suddenly, she lowered her gaze and turned to them. Brandon was saying something and bouncing around. When he took a step back, he ‘accidentally’ stepped on Yvonne’s feet!

“Ah!”

Yvonne let out a cry of pain and grabbed her foot.

Her scream caused Warren, who was in the distance, to look over. He hurried over. “What’s the matter, Yvonne, Brandon, quick, apologize to your aunt!”
