Nora was silent for a moment as she listened to his words.
Justin, who was watching out of the corner of his eye, couldnât contain himself and let out a soft chuckle.
His little Nora simply had too many secret identities. He didnât want to reveal a single one. When she told Quentin that she was the Big Sister of the Quinn School of Martial Arts, would he become herâ¦.. fan?
The three of them left the hospital. Nora got into the car and drove back to the Andersonsâ house.
Quentin didnât follow her, but Nora knew he was somewhere nearby. In case she was in danger, he would come immediately.
This inexplicable feeling of being protected by someone else wasâ¦.
By the time she returned to the Andersonâs, Lily had already sent someone to personally take the samples overseas for DNA testing. After all, her little lab was overseas.
After saying goodbye to the person, she went upstairs. When he saw that Cherry was already asleep, he carefully climbed into bed, hugged Cherry and happily fell asleep.
When he went downstairs after waking up the next day, he saw Melissa, Simon, Mrs. Anderson and even Sheena. They were sitting on the couch with solemn looks on their faces.
A bewildered Nora came downstairs. When Mrs. Anderson saw her, she sighed and asked, âNora, are you moving into the Smith residence?â.
Nora: â?â
She raised her eyebrows and looked at Mrs. Anderson in confusion.
Mrs. Anderson sighed. âItâs okay even if you move there. Thatâs the way it should be. After all, your father is thereâ¦.. Iâm just worried that youâll have a bad time after you move there.â
Nora knew that Mrs. Anderson was reluctant to part with her. After all, she was almost the same as Yvette. Mrs. Anderson thought of the daughter she was most proud of every time she saw her, didnât she?
With that in mind, she replied, âI probably wonât be moving to the Smithsâ for the time being.â
Mrs. Andersonâs eyes immediately lit up. âReally?â
Nora nodded.
Her words, however, took Melissa by surprise. âWhy not, hadnât Ian recognized you right there?â
Nora had returned too late the night before, so she hadnât yet told them what had happened. She touched her nose and said, âYou might be wrong, Aunt Melissa. My father is not Ian.â
Melissa: â???â
She gaped. âYour father is not Ian? Then why did he recognize you as Smith yesterday? Is he planning to take you as his goddaughter? Thatâ¦shouldnât be, should it? Heâs been treating Yvette like a taboo all these years. Not only has she never visited us, she never shows up at any event the Andersons go toâ¦â
Nora said, â⦠They say my father is Ianâs older brother, Ryan Smith.â
âHim?â
âThatâs impossible!â
Melissa and Sheenaâs voices sounded at the same time, and they both looked at her in surprise.
Melissaâs reaction felt normal: she was just surprised. However, Sheenaâs sudden sensitivity was such that Nora couldnât help but direct a few more glances at her.
Sheena clenched her fists. âIt canât be him!â
âWhy?â asked Nora.
âBecauseâ¦becauseâ¦â
Sheena stammered, unable to come up with a reason. At last, she insisted, âIn any case, it canât be him!â
Nora frowned.
Sheenaâs eyes became evasive.
Melissa asked, âWhy did they say that?â
Nora replied, âTheyâve submitted a report of the DNA test they did on Ian and me. It says we are uncle and niece.â
All: ââ¦â
Mrs. Anderson slapped her thigh. âWhat a sin, why Yvette possibly twice? If she liked Ryan, why mess with Ian, and end up like this!â
Her eyes were red.
Sheena said, âEven if they are uncle and niece, their father may not necessarily be Ryan. Ian has so many siblings, who knows if sheâs someone elseâs daughterâ¦â
But after speaking, she scoffed, âBut no matter whose daughter you are, you are living proof that your mother betrayed Ian! Donât be fooled because Joel is now the head of the Smiths. Ian has been in power for so many years, heâs not someone to mess with at all! Joel listens to him 100% of the time. After some thought, I think there are two reasons why he publicly acknowledged you as a Smith.â
After she changed the subject, the rest of them stopped looking at Ryanâs affair and looked at her.
Sheena had always been a career woman. She had been in the business world for many years and was relatively sharp about many things. She said, âFirst of all, all Smiths are protective of their own. Since you are part of the Smiths, they will never allow outsiders to bully you. Of course, this doesnât stop Ian from detesting you. Secondly, I think the Smiths did it so they could form a political marriage with the Hunts.â
Melissa suddenly realized. âThat makes sense. Originally, Yvonne Smith was supposed to marry Justin, but now that heâs chosen Nora, bringing her back into the family wonât affect the relationship between the two families.â
Every decision the rich and powerful made had an ulterior meaning and purpose. They were by no means simple.
Nora raised her eyebrows but did not speak.
Instead, she was left wondering why Sheena had said it was impossible for Ryan to be her father.
Did she know something?
As she wondered, Sheena looked at her again. She told him, âWhatever happens the Smiths are sure to do some sketchy work and give you some stock with money in it when you get married. In that sense, they wonât mistreat you. Neither will the Andersons. But I have something to tell you.â
His posture was straight, and the tight black suit he wore gave him a capable, shrewd look.
Melissa interrupted her, âSheena, Nora understandsâ¦â
Sheena scoffed, âI didnât even say anything, and you already know she understands? Is she so delicate that no one can say anything about her?â
Her words made Melissa choke.
Sheena looked at Nora. âWhat I want to tell you is that since you and Justin are in a relationship, there are some things you should never mention.â
Nora knew Sheena was saying all this for his sake, so she could only say kindly, âSay it.â
Based on the news about the Hunts that she had found out, Sheena said, âJustinâs mother lives in the suburbs. They say sheâs very hard to get along with, so youâd better stay away from her and avoid making her angry. Otherwise, when Justin is caught between you and his mother, who knows who heâd choose!â
Melissa nodded and repeated, âNora, Sheenaâs right!
⦠Could she tell that she had already struck up such a good relationship with the other party that they were now Sworn Sisters?
Seeing that even Melissa agreed with her, Sheena continued. âBesides, you must treat Peter Hunt well after you marry him.â
Nora raised her eyebrows.
Sheena said, âI know you will no doubt want to have a child of your own with Justin so he can fight for the position of head of the family. However, we Andersons must rely on our own abilities. As long as he is more outstanding, he can definitely make it, so donât use those nasty methods that people use in the field with Peter Hunt.â
Nora: â?â
Sheena scoffed, âThose methods are just our mere leftovers. Donât be fooled by the Hunt matriarchâs old age, nor by the way she defended you to strangers at the party last night. Sheâs actually very cunning and not to be messed with. You need to keep a good relationship with Justinâs son, you understand?â
Before Nora could say anything, Melissa smiled and said, âYou donât have to worry about that! Because Peter Hunt is â¦â
