ââ¦â
ââ¦â
ââ¦â
The entire room was filled with silence. Everyone watched in disbelief.
Melissa and Sheril had not at all expected Justin to pull the plug and reveal their relationship on an occasion like this.
Truth be told, the Andersons were no longer comparable to the Hunts of thirty years ago. Yvette had gotten everyoneâs attention because she was simply that outstanding, to the point that the Hunts and Smiths considered it an honor for her to marry into the family.
But the Andersons were just a family on the decline these days. Besides, the situation a moment agoâ¦. Melissa and Sheril exchanged a glance.
Sheril leaned over to Melissa and whispered, âMom, Mr. Hunt is serious about Nora.â
And wasnât he?
After all, she was the mother of the two children.
Melissa was never one to underestimate the children in her own family. She asked, âWhy does Nora seem a little unhappy to me, though?â
Sheril followed her gaze and saw that Nora was frowning.
Indeed, she was a little unhappy.
She had always gone unnoticed since she was a child and had never wanted anyone to pay attention to her. Once she became Justinâs girlfriend, or even the future Mrs. Hunt, people would notice her.
Of course, that was also the reason she had continued to push Justin away and had forbidden herself from developing feelings for him all this time.
However, had this guy announced their relationship in public?
Had he asked her permission, and had she accepted?
But there was no use crying over spilled milk. She frowned and began to think of a way to get out of the situation unscathed.
Apparently, after sensing her displeasure, Justin lowered his head as if to explain himself, but also as if to cover up his actions. He said, âThey have been too reckless, Nora. I couldnât contain myself for a moment and ended up revealing our relationship. You wonât mind, will you?â
Nora: â?â
He didnât manage to hold back for a moment?
Did he really think she was going to believe his nonsense?
Given the manâs personality, she would believe it if he said he held back and avoided doing something, but she would never believe it if he said he did something in a moment of impulse!
As head of the Hunts and leader of Americaâs leading conglomerate, would he do something âin a moment of impulseâ?
The corners of Noraâs lips tightened. She looked up at him and saw that his normally deep, bottomless eyes seemed a little shy and nervous, as if he were actually sincerely apologizing. Even the beauty mark in the corner of her eye seemed to give off a vague sense of having suffered an injustice, which made her unable to pursue the matter further. In the end, her words circled several times in her throat to finally become two words full of resignation. â⦠It doesnât matter.â
Justin nodded. âMm, even though weâre not getting married, youâre still the childrenâs mother, so itâs okay for outsiders to know about our relationship, right, Nora?â
Nora?
It was then that Nora realized that the man had started using a different term to address her at some point.
However, it sounded pretty good when the scoundrel pronounced her name in his deep, slightly husky voice.
She looked down and noticed the new pair of shoes. Although they were also heeled, at last their soles were no longer so slippery, so now she could handle them.
In the distance.
The man the security guards were holding back was stunned. He looked at Nora in disbelief, then looked out into the crowd, trying to find Warren.
Hadnât Warren said she was a worldly woman?
But it was impossible for Mr. Hunt to recognize a worldly woman as his girlfriend in public.
He had been tricked.
By the time he reacted, the security guards were already dragging him away after a nod from the butler.
He was totally dejected. What was he going to do? He had finally realized what a mistake he had made. Besides, even he himself thought his behavior was no different from seeking to get himself killed!
Beyond, Yvonne and Rachel gaped.
The two of them had been prepared for a good show just when Nora was surrounded by the group of men, and when the faint rumors that she was a worldly woman had spread.
Once a reputation like that spread, Nora would be all but finished.
Little did they expect Mr. Hunt to openly admit the relationship between the two.
With that, Nora was definitely no longer a worldly womanâ¦.. Because Justinâs words, as well as her taste, were the most direct proof!
Her close friends were startled by the news. Then, gloating looks immediately appeared on their faces.
In fact, they could no longer keep their voices down.
âIs Nora Smith really Mr. Huntâs girlfriend?â
âGood heavens what a revelation! Sheâs actually quite beautiful.â
âSuddenly something has occurred to me: please let Lord Hunt subdue that slut Nora Smith, so that she wonât hurt other peopleâs husbands!â
â⦠Oh dear, I let out a little sigh of relief too â my husband was practically bedazzled by Nora Smith a moment ago! But now he can only secretly fantasize about her. Who would dare lay a hand on Mr. Huntâs girlfriend?â
âHahaha!â
Someone looked at Yvonne.
âI already had a vague feeling that something was wrong a moment ago. Why did Yvonne seem to have been competing with Nora Smith the whole time today? Turns out thatâs what it was about.â
âIn other words, Yvonne has been conscientiously waiting for Mr. Hunt for over twenty years, but in the end, he doesnât want her at all?â
âSuddenly it seems a bit pitiful to me. Nora Smith has stolen all the limelight today? But this means that Mr. Hunt must have been the one who borrowed her dress â Nora has totally suppressed Yvonne!â
â⦠Shh, keep your voice down. She heard youâ¦â
âSo what if she hears me? Sheâs only the Smithsâ adopted daughter â does she really think sheâs a real Smith young lady?â
The people slowly drifted away. Yvonne clenched her fists tightly and struggled to suppress her anger.
She was not to commit a faux pas under such circumstances.
She would also make up for the embarrassment she had just suffered in a little while!
Rachel had also overheard the womenâs conversations. She glanced at Yvonne, but saw that she seemed calm and was still smiling softly.
She couldnât help but sigh inwardly in admiration â Miss Smith sure had remarkable mental stamina!
Yet why did Nora Smith have to brag so much?
Just as everyone was entertaining their own thoughts, Mrs. Hunt, the elderly birthday girl, finally made her appearance. She sat in a higher position and looked at everyone with a kindly gaze.
One by one, everyone began to present her with gifts and compliments.
The eldest were the first. Starting with Raymond, people came up one by one to offer him their good wishes.
Once the Hunts were done, it was the guestsâ turn.
By rights, the Smiths should have been first.
But because of Justinâs official announcement, the Andersonsâ status had been elevated accordingly. In fact, he himself took it upon himself to lead Melissa, Nora and the others.
Everyoneâs gazes instantly fell on them.
Rachel, who was standing next to Yvonne, scoffed at the sight. She said, âIt doesnât mean anything no matter how much Mr. Hunt favors them. Arenât they incapable of presenting a decent birthday present anyway?â
