Chapter 249

Nora1,221 words~7 min read

After chatting for a while longer, Melissa hung up and went to chat with Mrs. Anderson.

Melissa was concerned. “Mrs. Hunt’s attitude is pretty good, but I don’t know if it’s her basic upbringing or if she’s too pleased with Nora.”

Mrs. Anderson sighed. “If she were satisfied she wouldn’t have called early in the morning to ask Nora to come over.”

Melissa clenched her jaw and did not speak.

Mrs. Hunt’s behavior was really very rude.

When common sons fell in love, the man was undoubtedly more proactive. However, there was no reason for an old woman to call the girl directly to her home.

If they really wanted to see what she was like, most would visit her personally.

In ancient times, if the royal family liked someone, they would summon her to the palace to see her.

Therefore, this made Melissa and Mrs. Anderson very uncomfortable.

Even though the Andersons were already struggling, they were still a prominent family. They were not a small family in New York.

Mrs. Anderson sighed deeply and said the main thing. “It’s because Nora got pregnant before she was married and gave birth to a baby girl.”

Melissa became indignant and her words turned a little nasty. “But Justin has a son too. I don’t know where he got an illegitimate child.”

Mrs. Anderson shook her head. “Why doesn’t she understand, in her eyes, her family is different! Especially the men are even more different.”

Just like the emperors in ancient times, could it be that with a son, the position of the empress is no longer important?

There were still many women who rushed forward.

Who would despise the emperor for having a child outside their relationship? But if a girl had an illegitimate daughter, her status would fall.

Although it was now modern times, the nobler a family was, the more particular it was. They valued men more than women.

Take the Andersons, for example. As open-minded as they were, Sheena had married and left Simon to inherit the family business.

Melissa knew that wasn’t right. It was normal for people to marry twice, let alone have a child. However, when she heard Mrs. Anderson’s words, she fell silent.

She sighed. “All right, I’ll go.”

Mrs. Anderson nodded. “Yes, we have to stand our ground. We can’t let them belittle us. Otherwise, Nora will be bullied when she marries into the family in the future.”

Melissa nodded.

She left Mrs. Anderson’s room and headed next door. She happened to see Pete answering Math Olympiad questions earnestly at the desk.

She didn’t know what was wrong with the little girl. She had been quiet lately and wasn’t as animated as she used to be.

Melissa smiled and walked over, “Cherry, how about going out with your grandparents?”

Pete didn’t even look up. “I don’t want to go.”

“…” Melissa stepped in front of him and stared at the lock of hair on the boy’s head. She said slowly, “Come on, I’m going to a friend’s house as a guest. Don’t stay home all day.”

Pete looked up slowly.

At first he had wanted to keep turning her away, but he heard Melissa mutter to herself, “I wonder what’s wrong with Cherry lately. It used to be impossible for Cherry to stay in her room. She was always asking me to take her out to play…”

Pete slowly swallowed the words that were about to come out of his mouth. He was silent for a moment. “Okay.”

“That’s great!” said Melissa, “Wait a minute. I’ll find you a dress.”

Pete, “…”

He grimaced. “I don’t want to wear a dress. Great Aunt, I like what I’m wearing.”

Melissa looked at Pete’s clothes. He was wearing a gray suit, and it was hard to tell if he was male or female. His hair was a little long, but he hadn’t cut it in a while, as if he was waiting for braids to come out.

Melissa asked hesitantly, “But shouldn’t we be more casual when we go out as guests?”

Pete resisted. “…I think this is fine, it’s comfortable.”

Comfortable…

These two words made Melissa calm down. “You’re right. We’re going as guests and we’re just going to play. No need to be too serious. Do what you want and make yourself comfortable.”

With that, she looked down at her own clothes. “I’ll wear something comfortable too!”

Pete, “?”

She just didn’t want to wear a dress. How did his nonchalant words convince her?

Five minutes later, Melissa walked up in her usual clothes and greeted him, “Come on, Cherry.”

“Okay.”

Pete followed her down the stairs. As the two were about to leave, they bumped into Nora, who had eaten and was about to go upstairs.

Melissa greeted her, “I’m taking Cherry to play at a friend’s house.”

Nora heard this and raised her eyebrows. “Sure.”

She didn’t ask where she was going and headed upstairs.

The Andersons’ chauffeur drove while Melissa took Pete out.

Along the way, Melissa pointed out, “Cherry, be more polite and sweet when you see her later. Don’t embarrass your mother OK?”

Pete nodded. “…I’ll try my best.”

Melissa instead laughed. “Try hard for what, isn’t it your specialty to be beautiful and nice? Hahaha~”

Pete was speechless. That was his sister’s specialty, not his.

Geez.

Who were they going to meet, why did he have to curry favor with her?

As he was thinking, he suddenly realized that the car was driving on the road ahead of him. Why did the road look more and more familiar to him?

After making another turn, the Hunts’ villa appeared not far away. Pete couldn’t help but turn to look at Melissa. “Grandma, you’re going to the Hunts?”

Melissa smiled. “That’s right, Cherry is very smart!”

Pete: “!!!!”

He was about to say something when the driver stepped on the gas and pulled into the Hunts’ mansion.

The Hunts’ mansion was three thousand square feet. It would take another five minutes to drive all the way from the front entrance to the main hall.

Pete looked at the Hunts’ hired servants and grimaced.

What was he to do now?

“Squeal!”

The car stopped and the Hunts’ butler greeted them personally. He stood at the door respectfully. “Mistress Melissa is already here. The Elder Lady has been waiting for you for a long time.”

Melissa stepped out of the car and greeted the butler with a smile.

Then, she turned around to look inside the car. “Cherry, we’re here, shall we get out of the car?”

In the car, Pete was speechless.

The Hunts’ butler knew him!

Besides, the butler was the great-grandmother’s subordinate. After the tyrant took control of the Hunts, it was also a form of respect for the great-grandmother not to fire the butler.

But now, what could she do?

If she got out of the car, the butler would definitely notice!

In the bedroom.

Cherry was craning her neck to look out. As she did so, she asked, “Great Grandma, who are you bringing me to meet? Why isn’t he here yet?”

Mrs. Hunt smiled and spoke very softly…. “You are going to meet your sister. See if you like her. If you don’t like her you don’t have to force yourself.”
