Nora was a little surprised.
Since arriving in New York, she was no longer paying attention to the happenings in California.
Even though Angela was her stepsister, there was tension between them, so she didnât want to bother with her at all.
However, Lisa mentioned that they were coming to New York for their graduate school entrance exams.
She hadnât expected to meet them here.
She ignored Angela. Instead, she looked at Lisa and asked, âWhich professor do you intend to introduce yourself to?â
Lisa looked shyly at Angela and replied, âIâm still thinking about it. Iâm thinking of applying to someone who is easier to deal withâ¦â
âHeh.â Angela scoffed and said, âHow ambitious you are. Well, Iâm a completely different story. I came here with a clear objective, AND itâs Director Shaw!â.
She looked at Nora and said, âDo you know who Principal Shaw is? He only accepts four or five students each year. Although an unorthodox Doctor like you probably wonât be able to pass the exams.â
As far as Angela was concerned, Nora had never attended college. The reason she had some medical knowledge was that she had picked up some unorthodox skills overseas.
How was a woman who had never properly attended college going to be qualified for graduate school?
Yet Nora ignored her completely. In fact, she didnât even exist in her eyes. Instead, she looked at Lisa and asked, âWhere are you currently staying?â
âAt the hotel next to the university. The accommodation there is very cheapâ¦. You donât have to worry about me, Nora.â
Lisa looked at Angela after answering. She quickly said, âYou can go, Nora. Anyway, we have to go in and ask around to find out what the teachersâ preferences areâ¦â
âLeave? What nonsense. Tell me what exactly you came here for, Nora.â demanded Angela insistently, in a voice as loud as a frog croaking.
Nora, however, continued to ignore her. She said, âAll right. Call me if anything comes up, or if you run out of money.â
She got into the car.
Angela stepped in front of the car and blocked her way. He said, âCome here, Nora. Didnât you hear me? Youâ¦â
Nora stepped on the gas and drove toward her.
The car suddenly accelerated, causing Angela to shudder in fear and scream.
Screeeeeeech!
The car stopped barely an inch away from her. Angela could even feel the momentum of the car.
She turned pale with fright. The woman leaned an arm against the car window, stuck her head out and said coldly, âGet out of my way.â
Angela, scared out of her wits, turned away in a daze.
She had barely taken a couple of steps when the car started up again and sped past her.
Its speed was as if Nora were driving a sports car.
Angela swallowed hard. Only when the car disappeared into the distance did she finally come to her senses. She cursed angrily, âShe wanted to run me over! That bitch! Fat! Ugly woman! How dare she want to run me over! She must be jealous that I got engaged to Anthony.â
After Nora left California, the Grays and the Smiths tangled with each other for some time. In the end, Anthony was still engaged to Angela.
Lisa couldnât bring herself to listen any longer. She said, âNora doesnât even know youâre engaged, Angela. None of us have told herâ¦â
âShut up!â
Angela looked at her viciously. âAs far as I can see, all you care about is Nora, right? Why donât you stay with her instead of sticking it to me, then?â
Lisa bit her lip. âIn that case, give me back the money I borrowed from Uncle Henry.â
Her family had spent all their savings on her motherâs illness.
Her mother had borrowed money from Angelaâs father, Henry Smith, for all her travel and lodging expenses during her trip to New York for her graduate school application. However, Henry had transferred all the money to Angela, which caused Lisa to be harassed by her throughout the trip.
Angela pursed her lips and said, âYouâre borrowing money from Dad, which makes you borrowing from me, Lisa. Considering youâre indebted to me, I hope you know what to say!â
He frowned again after saying that. âNora was driving a jeep just now, wasnât she? I didnât expect the Andersons to treat her so well? Do you think she was here because the Andersons intend to let her pursue graduate studies?â
Angelaâs eyes lit up at the thought, she picked up her cell phone and called Henry, who was in California. She said, âDad, I think Nora has a way to get Principal Shaw to do what she wants! Can you ask him to help me?â
Henry replied, âOkay!â

As Nora was about to get home, her cell phone suddenly rang.
It was an unregistered number.
She didnât plan to answer it, but, because she was driving, she hit the wrong button and picked up the call unintentionally. Henryâs voice came to her immediately from the other end of the call.
âNora, this is your father. Iâm the one who raised you, so youâre obligated to support me in your old age! Weâll put aside the issue of your motherâs company profits for now, so have the Andersons use their contacts to get your younger sister to meet Director Shaw at once.â
Nora, â?â
How had she released that rabid dog?
She was about to hang up when her stepmother Wendyâs voice also reached her. She said, âNora, I know you donât want to come back anymore because you are now living in the lap of luxury after leaving with the Andersons. You have also taken your motherâs company with you and have no intention of giving it to us, but in any case we are still family. Blood is thicker than water; after all, Angela is your sister. Help her; if she becomes a famous surgeon and earns money in the future, we wonât have to bother you when weâre old either, will we? Donât you agree?â
Nora suddenly smiled. âBlood is thicker than water?â
Wendy replied, âYes, thatâs right, you and your little sister share the same father, so the same blood runs through your veins. You must not forget your roots after you have moved up the social ladder.â
The same fatherâ¦
If he hadnât been reminded of it, he would have almost fallen asleep and forgotten that he had a father.
However, that father of his was really strange. It could not be said that he did not treat his daughter well, because he took proper care of Angelaâs every need. However, at the same time, he was cold and icy towards Nora.
It was as if it was enough for him that she was not starving.
Nora looked down and suddenly raised her eyebrows. âI see.â
âHuh? What do you mean, âI seeâ? Nora, youâ¦â
Before Wendy could finish, Nora had already hung up.
She called Lisa. âWhere are you?â
A surprised Lisa replied, âIâm still at the university.â
âOkay, Iâm on my way to you now.â
Lisa gaped. âWhy are you looking for me, Nora?â
Noraâs eyes narrowed and the corners of her lips curved upward slightly. She replied, âOh. I want to see if the blood is really thicker than water between Angela and me.â
Lisa, â?â
He hung up on a totally confused Lisa.
The car turned around at the intersection and headed straight for the NYU School of Medicine.
Ten minutes later, the jeep pulled up in front of the office building.
Nora stepped loosely out of the car and headed straight for Angela and Lisa.
Angela smiled triumphantly and said, âHah, did Dad call you? Nora, Iâll tell you thisâ¦â
Before she could finish, however, Nora suddenly grabbed her by the hair. She felt a jolt of pain instantly. The next moment, she saw that Nora had pulled out a few strands of her hair. Her voice was lazy as she said:
âLend me this for a second.â
