Melissa frowned. âAre you here so late at night just to say things like that, Mrs. Levin? If so, Iâm afraid youâre not welcome here.â
Mrs. Levin hastily shook her head and said, âOf course not. Iâm here because I have great news for you.â
Melissa was taken aback. She was a guest, after all, so she resisted the urge to send her away and asked, âWhatâs this about?â
Mrs. Levin came into the living room and sat down on the couch. However, she changed the subject and said, âI called your sister-in-law on my way here. I actually wanted to convince her to go home â isnât it awful that sheâs still at her parentsâ house?â
Melissa had also heard that Miranda was refusing to return to the Woods after moving to the Sonnets.
Farrell was determined to teach her a lesson, so he simply refused to take her back home. However, he did not expect his two sons to go to the Sonnets as well after Miranda goaded them into it.
Miranda even threatened him by telling him that unless he took Melissa to the Sonnets and apologized to her, he could forget about taking her and the kids back home!
Miranda had also revealed, inadvertently or otherwise, to the outsiders that the Sonnets had invested $30 million in real estate, which caused everyone in the circle to be filled with envy toward the Sonnets for getting such a great opportunity.
Mrs. Levin said, âThe Sonnets are about to strike gold and make a fortune with the Lowes. Your older brother will not look well if he waits until then to go. I advise you to go with him to the Sonnets and bring them home first. After all, the children are there too.â
Melissa let out a sigh.
What made her think she hadnât already tried to talk it over with Farrell?
Unfortunately, he refused to listen to her. Besides, he went so far as to say that if the children couldnât even tell right from wrong, they might as well not come back for life!
Since Farrell was still angry, the only option left was to call Miranda.
As unpleasant as Miranda was, Farrellâs family would only be complete if she was there.
However, Miranda not only picked a fight again, she even told him that she would make Farrell regret what he had done.
It seemed that everyone was certain that the Sonnets were about to triumphâ¦..
In the midst of her thoughts, Mrs. Levin pursed her lips again and said, âMrs. Anderson, you are a knowledgeable, intelligent, sensible and considerate person. Your sister-in-law is also a good person. Everyone in the circle knows that, so how did it get to this point? It looks like Nora was the cause of it all, doesnât it?
Geez, looking at it like that, Nora is totally bad luck!â
The word âbad luckâ made Melissaâs expression change drastically. She was about to respond when Mrs. Levin added, âHowever, sheâs not entirely without merit; after all, she is beautiful. And lo and behold, because someone has asked me to come and propose to her.â
Marriage?!
Political marriages between wealthy families were linked to the rise and fall of wealthy families, so the children of wealthy families were not generally allowed freedom in their romantic relationships. Therefore, having matchmakers visit families to propose marriage remained a popular practice.
After all, if the two families were interested, they could come to an agreement immediately.
Melissa frowned and asked, âWho did that?â
âThe Myers, of course!â. Mrs. Levin laughed and said, âItâs Jon Myersâ son, Winston Myers! He says he fell in love at first sight with Miss Smith after seeing her at the party. He made a big fuss and insisted on taking Miss Smith as his wife after he got home. At first, Jon disagreed because he felt that she not only came with baggage, but also had a bad reputation and was even a very hard woman. But Winston Myers was very insistent. Jon simply could not change his mind, So he could only ask me to come and propose a marriage between the two of them!â
Melissa stood up angrily. âWinston Myers? No way!â
Simon also said angrily, âHow could an ignoramus like him be worthy of Nora!â
Seeing their reactions, Mrs. Levin pursed her lips in derision and said, âWinston Myers is certainly a bit more playful than most, but Nora doesnât have a good reputation either! Not only did she cause the Andersons to lose the Loweâs investment, but she did the same to the Woods. To top it off, she is said to be in the stock trading business. He must have lost a lot of money, right? Looking at it this way, Miss Smith sure is lucky. Winston Myers is genuinely interested in her despite the ridiculousness of the things she does. This must be a blessing for her, mustnât it?â
âTo hell with your so-called âblessingâ!â
Even Melissa, who had always been cultured and behaved with propriety, couldnât help but curse. She pointed to the door and shouted, âGet lost!â.
How could Mrs. Levin leave?
After all, Jon had said he would give her a big gift as a thank you if she could get them to agree to the marriage.
She stayed where she was and said with a smile, âMrs. Anderson, Mr. Anderson. Whatâs the meaning of this? I have come to arrange a marriage. Even if you are not interested, that is no reason to send me away, is it? Or is it because Miss Smithâs expectations are too high?â
Indeed, it was not right to throw the matchmaker out of the house when they came to propose marriage.
Still, the things Mrs. Levin was saying were simply too aggravating!
A sullen Melissa said, âI havenât seen anyone belittle women as a first action when they go to someoneâs house to propose either! Mrs. Levin, we are all distinguished people here. If she refuses to leave, itâs not our fault if we donât show her any courtesy!â
Simon also said, âDonât blame me for sending you away if you still donât leave!â
Mrs. Levin had come alone, so needless to say she was afraid of them both. She headed for the door in embarrassment, cursing as she did so.
âHah, what right has an uneducated, uneducated woman to look down on Winston Myers? At the very least, she hasnât had children, has she? Nor does he trade in stocks. By the way, Mrs. Anderson, how much did you lose when you traded stocks?â
âTrading stocks,â âlosing moneyâ?
These phrases made Melissa stop dead in her tracks. Suddenly she said, âJust a moment.â
Mrs. Levin stood still, looked back and scoffed, âWhat, have you thought this through? Itâs just as well. The Myers are still respectable people in the medical field, no matter what. Theyâll look good if you form a union with them, wonât they? As for the girlâ¦â
He let out an icy laugh and said, âThe Andersons will have to take care of her, I guess! Winston Myers will never take her in. They shouldnât have kept a little bastard like her-why didnât they send her to the orphanage?â
The things he was saying were getting more and more ridiculous.
Melissa said coldly, âNora didnât lose money on stocks!â
âShe didnât?â Mrs. Levin was taken aback. âThe stock market has been choppy lately and most stocks have fallen sharply. Thereâs no way nothing happened.â
Melissa immediately went upstairs and brought Nora downstairs. She said, âNora, show Mrs. Levin the stock you bought.â
Nora, who was about to go to bed but instead was called downstairs for some reason: â?â.
She yawned and lazily pulled out her cell phone. She opened the stock trading app and went to the section listing the stocks she owned.
Mrs. Levin scoffed, âWhat, are you really on a roll and havenât lost any money?â.
Practically after she said that, she saw the profit section on the cell phone.
The stock in which she had invested $300,000 had already risen to $1,500,000.
Profit: $1,200,000 And this was only after a few days!
Mrs. Levinâs eyes widened as she stared at the screen in disbelief.
When she confirmed that she really wasnât seeing things, she clenched her fists. However, she still scoffed, âSo what if youâve won a million dollars? You just got lucky â can you beat the Sonnetsâ real estate investment? How short-sighted you are.â
Practically after saying that, a report suddenly appeared on the financial news!
