Chapter 20: The Russian Boy

The Life Of A German SoldierWords: 1956

"Hold him down for me, Albert."

Albert slowly walked over to him and he placed his foot on the boy's back. Peter grabbed the boy's rifle and handed it to Ernst. Ernst starred at the rifle and then looked back up at Peter. Ernst's heart thumped harder.

"What am I supposed to do?"

"Come here." Peter said, tugging on Ernst's collar.

"Albert, put these other two ropes around his waist and legs."

Peter tossed the ropes to him and made the boy get up and stand by a tree. Peter had came over with Ernst and helped the boy stay at the tree.

"No, NO!" Ernst yelled, trying to run away.

Peter grabbed the back of Ernst's uniform and turned him around. Ernst had started to cry and he tried to get out of Peter's grip.

"NO! I can't do it, Peter please, PLEASE?!"

"No, you either do it or I will do it for you, Ernst! This will teach you something."

"I can't kill a boy my age, Peter and what would it teach me?"

"Well, he's not like you, he's a Russian and you are German. See, there's a major difference now do it."

"No......"

"I gave you my orders so do it!" yelled Peter as he pushed the rifle hard into Ernst's chest.

Ernst was silent until he saw Peter pull a P08 Luger pistol out of his pocket. He loaded one bullet in it and took aim, at his forehead. Ernst froze and he dropped the rifle. His hands shock wildly and his face turned red.

"I will count to three and you will either pick up that rifle or this bullet goes in your head."

Ernst slowly picked up the rifle and he glared back at the boy and Albert was still holding him down against the tree.

"1......2......!" Peter said when a shot was fired.

The boy screamed and blood started to cover his brown uniform. Ernst looked back at Peter and he nodded his head. He looked back at the boy and he was still barely alive. He moaned and he looked down at the bullet hole in his stomach.

"Again Ernst," ordered Peter.

Ernst slowly aimed the rifle back at the boy. Bang! Then there was complete silence.
