Chapter 108 â Ch. 108 Rushed Into An Empty Classroom (2)
âAre you trying to avoid me again?â
Louise nodded with a large frown on her brow.
âI thought so. I can tell from this profane expression.â
He swept his fingertips near Louiseâs lips.
âDonât bite your lip too hard. Youâll hurt yourself.â
It wasnât painful, so she shook her head.
âI wish we could be alright, but I feel like Iâm being a bother to you.â
Louise nodded before he could finish. It could be interpreted as, âItâs true! Youâre totally bothering me!â
âI wonât bother you, really.â
Louise released her lip and it slowly regained it color, while Ian opened his mouth to speak.
âThe truth isâ¦Iâm nervous.â
Louiseâs head tipped slightly.
âBecause how can I say that I donât know?â
âAhâ¦!â
She gasped in spite of herself and quickly covered her mouth. She wasnât supposed to answer in words. In any case, she understood a little bit what made him nervous.
âYou love Simon a lot.â
There was no denying it, and so she nodded her head.
âLook, Iâm nodding too. I love Simon very much as well.â
Louise smiled at his reply.
âBesides, Simon has many advantages that I donât have.â
Advantages like being friendly or being good with his hands. Louise was always so relaxed with him, whereas she was squeamish whenever she and Ian met.
âExcuse me for this, but Iâve been imagining. If you couldââ
He leaned over a little so their gazes met.
âIt would be nice if you could think of me while watching the sudden heavy rain.â
That wasnât all he had in mind.
âAnd I was hopingâ¦you would cherish the words I left behind. I told it like a joke then, but still.â
He still held her face and while he whispered to her affectionately.
âTheyâre really the only words I have.â
He was silent. The hand on her cheek seemed to heat her body.
Louise thought for a moment, then finally spoke. She couldnât help it. She couldnât explain it by a gesture.
â â¦I cherish them.â
Sometimes, she thought of her twitching lips before she went to sleep.
âYes.â
Ian could tell by Simonâs reaction. Louise had never wavered. Ian felt evil being relieved at the fact.
âItâs not just you that Iâve been thinking about. Because you knowâ¦I have this personality.â
He gave a smile, and Louise recognized that it was a forced one.
âEven if your heart is wavered by Simonâs kindnessâ¦I donât think I could ever let you go.â
He couldnât help but confess his cowardice.
âIf he kept you from meâ¦I would have taken back your heart by any means possible.â
She needed to know exactly about his ugly nature.
âIâm soâ¦so disgusting.â
Even though Ian felt guilty for obstructing Simonâs life, he didnât think he could give up the single thing he desperately wanted the most.
âI just wanted to let you know that the man that youâre choosing is this detestable.â
Louise vigorously shook her head.
âYouâre trying to comfort me again, arenât you? I appreciate your compassion. You were so kind, even from the beginning. And you were always sweet to meâ¦â
His voice trailed off, but his gaze became clearer. The hand that held her cheek swept through her hair, and the gap between them grew even smaller, until finally their foreheads touched lightly.
ââ¦Louise Sweeney.â
He changed the word âyouâ to her name. To make it a little clearer.
âI want to keep Louise Sweeney to myself.â
Before Louise could fully process the meaning, Ian spoke first.
âI love you very much, Louise Sweeney.â
After the lingering effects of his words had passed, he ventured forward cautiously.
ââ¦Are you alright with that?â
He recalled the shortcomings he had mentioned earlier. Should an ugly, selfish, and obsessive man be allowed to have such feelings?
âItâs alright.â
She was generous in her reply.
âPlease treat me as your one and only.â
She spoke as if she was trying to reassure him.
âJust like I already do for you.â
âOf course. Iâve been doing that for a long time.â
He kissed Louise lightly on her lips and stepped back.
ââ¦Well, somehow I feel like Iâm still losing to a prince of a fairy tale book.â
âYou still care about that?!â
âYou know itâs nothing. I wanted to show you how good I can be. I donât know why I rushed into an empty classroom like this thoughâ¦â
âBecause you were you impatient?â
Ian lifted his brows. Sure, maybe he was a little bit impatient.
âI couldnât help it. Iâve never gone this long missing you so much.â
âWe barely saw each other last year.â
âI thought you were smart and cute then, butâ¦â
He didnât know she was a perfect creature that was this soft and delicate and sweet.
âAnyway, I wondered when weâd get to meet again, and now these two unscheduled interruptions were sent from the palace.â
âIt is a little awkward.â
âYes, and now youâve come back even more beautiful than before, but I canât even touch your hair!â
âDo you want to touch it?â
âI always want to touch it if you let me. Itâs obvious.â
ââ¦How dignified.â
For some reason it sounded embarrassing when he admitted when he wanted to touch her hair.
âAh! But I do like it.â
Louise clasped her hands near her heart and smiled.
âYou said you were impatient.â
ââ¦Hm?â
âBecause youâre usually so relaxed. It makes me feel a little special.â
Louise shrugged, and Ian stretched out his arms.
âThen letâs actually do something special.â
âSpecial?â
She glanced at his outstretched hands.
âWeâre going to dance?â
âNo way. Weâre not ballroom dancing lessons now. If you donât mind, please come closer.â
That wasnât any reason to protest, so Louise walked into the circle of his arms.
âLike this?â
âYes. Can I hold you now?â
âThatâs alright. But what will happen?â
âNot to me, but to you.â
âMe?â
At her question, he lifted her body in the air.
âPresident?!â
Louise managed to steady herself by grabbing onto his shoulder.
âY-you scared me.â
Their eye level changed and now Louise was looking down on him.
âBut this is quite unique.â
She had never looked down on him with this viewpoint before.
â⦠I want to ask you something.â
The special thing he was talking about was probably not a new vantage point.
âTell me.â
âYouâll listen?â
âIt depends.â
âI really want you to listen. Itâs only you now.â
There was a faint sense of loneliness in the way he softly spoke his words.
âIf you donât mind, then.â
He hesitated for a moment.
ââ¦I wish for a blessing.â
Louise finally understood what he meant when he said âspecialâ. Blessing someone was the act of kissing another personâs forehead and wishing them happiness. Even ordinary people shared friendly kisses with someone close to them. It was a small thing any ordinary person on the street could have.
However, Ian was an exception. He was of such high status that no one could dare gave him such an intimate gesture. The only ones officially allowed to do it were the highest priests, parents and lovers.
âI had the blessing of the priests and my parents when I was young, but now itâs hard to expect it from anybody.â
He used to envy the people who could share a kiss of friendliness. He couldnât have that.
âOnly if you donât hate it, of course.â
âWhat can I say?â
Louise swept her fingers on his hair.
âYou can expect a blessing from me anytime. And always, Iââ
Louise brushed away some of his hair on his forehead as kissed it.
âI believe in happiness at the end of Ian Audmonialâs journey.â
âDoes that mean Iâll have you?â
Louise laughed playfully and shook her head.
âI actually meant something a little different. I meant when the officials would find out that the president was missing.â
No sooner had she finished did the voices of the officials searching for Ian began to echo loudly in the hall.
Ian sighed a little. It was time to climb back through the window. He prayed that it wouldnât be recorded in history.
