Chapter 107 â Rushed Into An Empty Classroom (1)
There was a deep sigh of relief as the lock clicked shut. Haaaah.
Of course, that didnât mean he let Louise go yet.
âSo then.â
âHmm?â
âDidnât you say that you had a meeting with the clerk?â
Ian made a sound like he was suffering from something, then eventually answered in a small voice.
âI did.â
âYou havenât talked to him at all this semester, have you?â
âNow that sounds appealing.â
âUgh, so how did you pull this off?â
âIs that important now?â
âIt matters now!â
âReally, this moody girlâ¦â
He let go of Louise at last, his expression disgruntled.
âItâs not a big deal, itâs just that the clerkâs private office is above this room.â
Louise looked at Ian with wide eyes. There are quite a number of ways to get to a lower floor, one of which is to use the stairs.
And the other one.
âDonât tell me you climbed down the window!â
âAmazing, isnât it?â
There was swagger in the way he spoke. Wasnât that too dangerous? What if his hand or foot slipped and a disaster happened!
âYou couldâve gotten hurt, and that dangerous stunt would have been recorded in history!â
âIâm not hurt. And itâs not going into history.â
âBut still! Why did you take such a risk?â
âBecauseâ¦â
He patted Louise on the head as he struggled over his answer. It had been a long time since he touched her hair this way. They hardly got to meet during vacation.
âI need space to breath sometimes.â
âThen get a respirator.â
âYes, Iâll be careful that my royal respiratory system wonât fall from me. People who lose their respiratory organs die.â
He really couldnât say it and kept waffling.
âWell, something like that. And I justââ
The hand that he used to stroke her hair now cupped her cheek.
âI just wanted to see you.â
ââ¦Me?â
âYes, Louise Sweeney.â
He paused to think for a moment then continued.
âA âmeetingâ is more than just seeing each other face-to-face.â
In other words, when they bumped into each other at the Academy office it didnât feel like a proper meeting.
âI know that much!â
She agreed that none of the conversations that seemed to have come from âThe Great Encyclopedia of Etiquette for Children in the Capitalâ were any pleasant.
âI canât believe you were acting like a brilliant honor student.â
âI actually am though.â
âJust because youâre a senior and youâre president of the student council, doesnât mean youâre the best.â
âThen who is it going to be? Is it going to be my damn neighbor who likes to look at my sister?â
âYeahâ¦thatâs a little weird.â
âOf course.â
âYou know, I was happy when you said I was making a âprofane look.â Is that wrong?â
Ian chuckled as he lightly pinched Louiseâs cheek.
âYeah, its weird, but I canât help it. Itâs the same with me too.â
Louise looked at him with round eyes. It was clear she wanted an explanation for what he meant with âMe too.â
âFor example, when you give me that profane look, it creeps me out but also makes me feel happy.â
ââ¦Huh?â
âAnd when you make a look like you canât trust me, thereâs a crease here in the middle of your forehead. It makes meâ¦how should I say this? It makes me want to aggravate it even more.â
âIt just makes me annoyed.â
âBecause youâre paying taxes to a pervert?â
He gave a bright smile as he exactly read Louiseâs thoughts. After she said it so many times, it was only natural that he understood her.
âTo think Iâve come to that terrible knowledge.â
âItâs entirely my fault. I apologize.â
He apologized with no regrets. In fact, he looked like he was enjoying himself.
âSometimes I think you just want to bully me.â
âOf course not. I told you before, Iâm courting you pretty seriously.â
âUgh, what kind of courtship is this!â
âItâs just that you keep saying things that break the atmosphere.â
âMe?â
Ian nodded his head.
âA while ago, when a man wanted to see you, you wanted to know about his meeting with the clerk.
ââ¦Well.â
âAnd if the atmosphere continued naturally, then there never would have been talk about how that man was a pervert.â
âThen what was he going to do?â
ââ¦You want to know? â
He had quite a serious look on his face, and Louise shook her head vigorously.
âN-not at all!â
âSee. You changed the atmosphere.â
Ugh. That wasnât intentional. Seriously.
âIâve known you for so long that it feels awkward to be serious about something.â
âI know. Thatâs the disadvantage of a childhood friend. And you hate losing to me.â
Yes, that was the problem. She always wanted to fight back.
âThen letâs do this for a moment.â
âWhat?â
âOf course I enjoy your sparkling conversation, but hold on. Just for a minute.â
âWait, a minute?â
âI want you to answer simply with your body.â
âWh-what?! Are you crazy? â
Louise stared at Ian with huge eyes.
âI meant nod or shake your head. What on earth were you thinking? I just want you to be as clear as possible.â
âWell, if thatâs the case, just tell me to nod my head normally!â
âI just wanted to respect diverse expressions of opinion. There are many ways to wave your hand or turn your body.â
âUghâ¦â
âAnyway.â
He continued with a much more composed voice.
âCan you show me a simple answer?â
She nodded for him.
âRight. Good job.â
He patted her cheek like he was praising a puppy. Louise bit her lips as she thought, âPlease treat me like a human being.â
