Chapter 8: Rescue

The Alpha And His Abused Mate (#Wattys2016)Words: 8407

After a long day of school, I went to River's house along with Morgan, and Alex. Around six thirty at night I decided I should probably go home.

"River!" I shouted. He came bounding down the stairs.

"Wait!" He yelled as I was leaving.

"Let me take you home." I nodded and we made our way to his truck. There was an awkward silence until the song 'Why' by Jason Aldean came on. River looked at me, smirked and belted out the lyrics. This made me laugh, which brought a smile to his face.

I told River to park a few houses down from mine. He tried to argue but I kissed his cheek which shut him up. River turned off the music and stared at me intently.

"Bye.." I said awkwardly. He chuckled and said his goodbyes. I quickly got out of the car and ran to my house before he could ask any questions. I sighed and slid down the door while closing my eyes.

"Where have you been?" Craig asked while stalking towards me angrily. My eyes snapped open as soon as I heard his cruel voice.

"N-no where." I mentally cursed as my voice came out weak and scared. As he came to slap me, Craig sniffed the air.

"You smell like a boy," He yelled in my face "Who were you with?!" I cowered back in fear.

"I was with no one..." I lied. He slapped me in the face causing my head to violently turn to the right.

"You slut!" He punched me and I fell to the ground. Craig repeatedly kicked my in the stomach and punched my face. He stalked away and headed towards the kitchen. 'Finally.' I thought but I spoke to soon. He soon returned with a steak knife from last night's dinner.

"God you should have never been born." He walked over to me and made one large cut along my arm. A cry of pain left my mouth, and the tears started to stream down my face. He cut another line on my other arm. He then moved down to my legs and cut both of them. By now I was in full blown tears, and I couldn't stop them. Craig eyed me up and down, and made his last move. He stabbed the knife into my stomach, and exited the house.

I was in so much pain and it kept getting worse. It was also getting harder to breath, and stay awake. I closed my eyes for a split second, and as I did I heard someone shout my name and run over to me.

River's POV:

I was in the kitchen cooking dinner when Alex and Morgan walked in.

"Alpha," Morgan said as she nodded respectfully towards me. I smiled as I stirred the spaghetti sauce.

"You know you don't have to use formalities with me, we're family," I said. I mean if my twin was her mate then I we're family. Suddenly I felt a sharp pain in my arms, then my legs. I looked to see if anything hot had spilled but nothing had. Then there was an unbearable pain in my stomach, which caused me double over in pain. Alex was by my side in a second.

"What the fuck dude?!" He said as I was groaning on the floor.

"If this is one of your pranks I'm gonna kill you!" I shook my head, and sat up with the help of Alex. I pulled up my shirt, and there was nothing there.

"If there is nothin' wrong with you then why, you screamin'?"

"I don't know," I said. It didn't get sick often and I had never experienced this much pain, except for my first shift. I began to feel light headed and my eyes started to close. I felt peaceful until something hit me hard in the back of my head. My eyes snapped open and I felt them shift, as my wolf took control.

"He's back!" Morgan yelled. I eyed her and saw that she had a frying pan in her hand. I growled at the thought of her hitting me. Another growl erupted from the room and I knew that I had made Alex's wolf angry by growling at his mate.

"I know you're his brother but your not mine." My wolf Zander said huskily.

"But you're my brother." Alex's wolf, Xavier, said. We both had Alpha blood in us, but since I was the Alpha I had a tone that no wolf could stand up against.

"Bow down," Zander said with my Alpha tone. I could see Alex and his wolf fighting to stand their ground but, he eventually bowed his head in defeat. As we were arguing we had gained a crowd, which included the pack doctor.

"Whats going on here?" The doctor asked.

"River fell over, and nothing is wrong with him," Alex replied after we had both calmed down. The doctor came and looked me over, before saying, "You appear to be fine Alpha."

"Isn't that what I just said," Alex said.

"Just shut up! Okay? Just be quiet for once in your life!" I groaned. Alex mumbled something under his breath and made faces. I walked up and slapped him in the back of the head, causing him to wince and cuss at me.

"Alpha?" The doctor asked me a few seconds later.

"Yeah?"

"Do you have a mate?" I slowly nodded my head yes.

"It could be her pain. Since there is nothing I could see wrong with you, it could possibly be from her." That was all he needed to say for me to run out of the house at full speed. After reaching the end of the driveway I shifted into my wolf and picked up my speed as I ran towards Ellie's house. A brown and black wolf came running beside me and I knew it was Alex.

Even though he gets on my nerves, and I almost kill him every day, I do love him. We've through hell and back together and he always has my back.

We exited the woods we had been running through and once I caught sight of her house I picked up my speed even more. I shifted once I got to her driveway not even bothering to wait for Alex. I bounded up the front steps and entered the house.

"Ellie!" I called frantically. As I smelt the air, trying to find her scent, I smelt blood. More specifically, her blood. I followed the smell and I saw a sight I wasn't prepared to see. A pale Ellie was laying in a pool of blood, surrounding her. I rushed over to see a knife stuck in her stomach. There was extreme cussing from behind me and I knew that Alex had seen her.

"Alex! Find something to stop the bleeding with." He threw a blanket at me and I tore it into pieces with my canines. Slowly I pulled the knife out, causing more blood to spill out of the large cut. I applied pressure, to the wound, while yelling at Alex to call Luke. The bleeding wouldn't stop and I was becoming extremely worried. With one hand I checked her pulse and found that it was very low.

Soon I heard tires screech and I knew that Luke had arrived. 'God that boy can't drive to safe his life.' I thought. Carefully I picked Ellie up and stepped out of the house. Luke's Escalade was at the end of the street and somehow I got in while holding Ellie and praying that she could hold on for at least five more minutes.

We didn't stop for any stoplights and I'm pretty sure we were speeding but that was the least of my worries at the moment. When we had reached the pack house, I jumped out of the car and ran towards the house.

After sprinting through the whole house, I finally reached the medical wing. I called out for a doctor.

"Help!" A family friend who happened to be a doctor came out from behind a curtain.

"River what happened?" He asked as he began his way to me.

"She's my mate, you gotta help her Mark, please." I rushed out. He saw the panic in my eyes, and we hurried into an operating room. Mark hooked her up to many machines and began to work on her, but a couple minutes later he said words that broke my heart.

"We can't save her, she's lost too much blood."

"Do something!" I yelled at him.

"There's nothing we can't d-," he stopped mid-sentence as a thought hit him, "River you can bite, her."

I gave him a look that said he was crazy, but as he explained it I realized what he was saying.

"The bite of an Alpha can change her into a werewolf."

"What do I have to do?"

"Just bite her," Mark said as he handed me Ellie's arm. I let out a sigh and felt my canines come out and I slowly lowered my head to her arm. My teeth punctured her pale skin and the taste of blood entered my mouth, making me shiver in disgust. After removing my mouth, I put her arm down and looked at her cuts, trying to see if they were healing. Nothing was happening and I became devastated, my mate is dying if not already dead. I hung my head and let the thought sink in, but I was interrupted by Mark's yelling.

"River! It worked!" My head snapped up and I saw the cuts healing. I felt Zander pacing in my head, waiting for our beautiful mate to wake up. We were both ready to see the love of our life's eyes again.
