Alyssa
I woke up with a banging headache. What the hell happened to me?
âYou fainted,â Dahlia said quickly. âIâm not sure where we are though; letâs take a look around,â
I got up slowly, and the room spun for a moment. I could see the bandages around my head, and it hurt to touch them. I tried to take one step, but my legs felt like jelly. âCrap, it hurts to move,â
âYou really should be taking it easy,â Elizabeth said, walking into the room.
âLizzy?â I said with my eyes closed.
âIn the flesh. Now, letâs get you back to bed,â Elizabeth grabbed my arm and helped me sit on the bed. I noticed it had gotten dark outside and realized I had no idea how long I was out.
âHow long was I out?â I asked.
âA couple of hours,â Elizabeth said. âAre you okay?â
Vincent is going to kill me! âI think so, thanks for the help,â
âYouâre welcome. With your fast healing, you should be good in a few hours. Take it slowly for a while,â
âWhere are we?â I asked.
âSorry for the run-down room youâre staying in, but this is an old training facility. After the first wave attacked, we needed a hidden place. So are you the only one here?â Elizabeth asked me.
âNo, Vincent and Alexandria are around here somewhere, along with the children of the dragon kingdom leaders,â I said.
âWhy are they with you in Varrfarrinn?â Elizabeth asked.
âLetâs just say it has been a crazy couple of days,â I went into my pocket for my phone, only to find it wasnât there. âWhereâs my phone? Vincent needs to know Iâm okay,â
âHere, you can use mine,â Elizabeth handed me her phone, and I dialed Vincentâs number.
âHello?â Vincent said on the other line.
âVince, itâs me!â I said with joy, thankful that he was okay.
âAlyssa?! Where the hell are you!? Are you alright?â Vincent said with fear and panic in his voice.
âA relative term, but yes, Iâm alright. Iâm sorry for worrying you. Iâm with Elizabeth. Weâre at the old training house west on the island, Vincent. Weâll see you in a bit,â I said as I gave Elizabeth her phone back.
âWell, he didnât sound happy,â Lizzy snickered.
âI might have bailed on him when we arrived,â I said.
âWhy on earth would you do that?â Lizzy said. âDo you have any idea whatâs going on out there? You were lucky that arrived when I did earlier?â
âYou donât have to scold me. Iâm sure Vincent will give me enough when he arrives, and I wasnât thinking,â I said with shame.
âThat seems to be a recurring problem with you. What the hell happened in Bermuda?â Lizzy asked. â
âI think itâs best if I let Vincent explain that,â I said.
âOkay, but what were you doing at Isabellaâs house all alone?â Elizabeth asked.
Hearing her name reminded me of the fact that Isabella was gone. âIsabella is dead,â I covered my mouth after she said her name. âIzzy died to save me,â
âBy the goddess! Annabeth must be feeling the pain,â Elizabeth said.
âWhat do you mean?â I said.
âIf one of the mated pair dies, the loss is unbearable for the other as it feels like they have lost a part of their soul. Many dragons and fairies often decide they donât wish to live without their mate,â Lizzy explained.
âI highly doubt Annabeth will kill herself; she would want revenge for Izzyâs death.
Elizabeth then sat down on the bed and wrapped her hands around me. Once more, I found myself crying, unable to stop. Elizabeth held me close as I cried and waited until I was ready. Elizabeth took me out of the room as I wiped my tears on my sleeve. I knew that my eyes were probably red and swollen from crying, but I didnât mind if she saw me like this.
âThere are some people who want to see you,â Elizabeth said.
We went downstairs, and the room was full of people. I noticed that many had bandages around various parts of their body. People had not been expecting the attack.
âGlad to see youâre awake kiddo,â Mr. Reid said. âHowâs your head?â
âStill intact, itâs good to see you, Mr. Reid.â I smiled at him.
âALYSSA!â I heard Timothy running.
âTim?â We then embraced. âIâm so glad youâre safe,â I said.
âDamn, you look like shit,â Timothy joked.
âExactly what any girl wants to hear,â I rolled my eyes at him. âBut itâs the truth so I canât argue with it,â
âWhat the hell happened to you?â Tim asked me.
âI got cornered by two guys, but theyâre dead now, in a worse place,â I said, then an alarm blared throughout the building.
âSomeone is approaching the facility; everyone get ready!â Mr. Reid ordered.
âCome with me!â Tim grabbed my hand and quickly led me away from the room.
âTim, we have to help the others,â I yelled at him.
âWith your concussion? Hell to the no!â Tim said. âNow sit before you lose your balance,â
Timothy sat me on the table; he brushed the hair out of my ace and looked concerned.
âIâm fine, Tim,â I said.
âIf we are getting attacked, you will be defenseless. Itâs my job to keep you safe,â Timâs hand was still on my cheek, looking into my eyes. Suddenly, his lips came crashing into mine without a word before I could react.
âTimothy, stop!â I begged
Timâs hands were on my face, holding it close to him; I couldnât speak. I tried to push him off gently, but he ignored it. I was feeling a burning pain in my chest. I felt the searing pain subside when I pushed Tim off me.
âGlad to see youâre okay,â Vincent said with a growl. His left hand is on top of his heart, struggling to breathe. I donât know how long heâs been standing there.
âVincent, itâs not what you think!â I freaked.
âHey, man, look-â But before Vincent would let Tim explain his action, Vincent punched Tim. Vincentâs fist meeting Timâs face echoed through the room. Timothy fell to the floor unconscious; I saw the fury in his eyes as he looked down on him. I could see his knuckles whiten.
Without a word, Vincent walked up to me. Could this be where he will reject me? I wait for him to yell. âI could feel the pain when he kissed you; I felt when you resisted him. He has no regard for the mate bond, you is not his to claim, you are MINE!â Vincent gently placed his lips on mine, and I melted into him. âAre you okay?â
âYeah, Vincent, about what you saw?â Vincent put his index finger on my lips.
âYou tried to push him off, but it doesnât change that you left the hospital without a word,â Vincent growled softly.
âVincent, Iâm so sorry,â I said.
âAll I care about is that you are safe and in my arms again,â We could hear Tim grunt on the floor, and I felt Vincent tense up.
âI see you found her. Tim, what happened to you?â Elizabeth said as she entered the room.
Tim got off the floor and gave Vincent a cold look. âNothing,â He walked out of the room.
âIs everything alright?â Elizabeth asked.
âYes, now leave us; I want to be with my mate. Alone!â Vincent said. Elizabeth bowed and closed the door behind her. âNow that we are alone, do you want to tell me what the hell were you thinking?â
âI-I donât know. I went to Isabellaâs house because I missed her so much. Then two guys attacked me, I managed to kill one of them, and Elizabeth saved me.
âThose guys better be thankful they are already dead! I would killed them much slower if I had gotten my hands on them!â Vincent said.
âDid you find your mom?â I asked.
âAlex is still looking, and I had to go after my troublemaker that is my mate,â Vincent crossed his arm.
âIâm sorry,â I said.
âStop apologizing! Iâm not happy about you ditching me and the others, but I understand why you did it. Promise me that you wonât do this again; if anything happens to you, I wonât be able to handle it,â Vincent said.
âI promise,â I kissed his cheek.
âI can still smell him on you, and itâs pissing me off,â Vincent growled. âIâm going to kill him!â
âDonât! I wonât agree with what he did to me, but there has been enough violence,â I placed my hand on his shoulder.
âIf he so much as touches you again, I will not hold Astarot back,â Vincent warned me.
We returned to the facilityâs main hall, and I saw Megan talking with Elizabeth and Mr. Reid. âMegan, what are you doing here?â
âHelping Vincent find you,â Megan stuck her tongue out.
âI guess these two were out intruders,â Mr. Reid said.
âHas Megan fille you in on the situation?â Vincent asked.
âYes, and itâs much worse than we could have imagined. Varrfarrinn hasnât been vulnerable since the great war,â Mr. Reid said.
My eyes caught a glimpse of Tim in the room, wearing a brand-new black watch. Vincent had a stern look; thankfully, he ignored him.
âHow many are in this facility?â Vincent asked, looking around.
âWe saved as many people as we could, I think we have around fifty people here. The attack was sudden, so many of us are vulnerable. There are other places the survivors left, but most here are those fighting back,â Mr. Reid explained.
âGood to know. Any idea where Annabeth is?â Vincent said.
âThe fairy? Have you checked the fairy village? It holds one of the few gateways to Avalon. Iâm sure she retreated there to help the warriors keep it safe,â Elizabeth said.
âAlex called me. They check it out; almost half of it is gone, but there are no signs of them there.
âDonât worry, Iâm sure Annabeth is alright,â Elizabeth said.
âAnnabeth is with my mother; we must find them as soon as possible. Audrey and Dr. Solus are with them, too,â Vincent said.
âExcuse for a moment,â Mr. Reid then walked off.
âAfter you find your mother, whatâs the plan your highness,â Elizabeth asked.
âKill every single last one of the intruders will extreme prejudice, show them no mercy,â Vincent ordered.
âA wish that Iâll be glad to carry out my lord,â Elizabeth smiled as she cracked her knuckles. âIâve lost a lot of friends these past few days. Iâll round out every fighter, and when you are ready, call and say the word,â Elizabeth said.
âI found someone that might help, come with me,â Mr. Reid waved us over.
âIâll stay here and keep watch over things,â Megan said.
We soon entered a room similar to the one I had woken up in. On the bed layed Grace, one of the councilwomen. She had thick bandages around her torso and bruises all over her body.
âGrace, how are you feeling?â
âLike the morning after shore leave,â Grace groaned.
âWhat happened, Elder Grace?â Vincent asked.
âIâd bow if I could, youâre Highness, but you should see the other guys and now worry about me,â Grace sat up on the bed stiffly, and I could see a painful expression. âHenry told me that youâre looking for your mother? If Kaiden is with them, I can contact him; as a fellow magic user, I can find him,â
âHow can you find him?â I asked Grace.
âKaiden is a wizard; while Iâm a witch, we are both magic users. Since he is my teacher, we have a strong link between us. I hope I can get to him. I hope this works,â Grace said. Grace closed her eyes and took a deep breath; they started to glow when she opened them again. Then her eyes blinked and returned to normal, and Henry grabbed her before she fell.
âIâm sorry. I canât focus enough to find Kaiden,â Grace said.
âThank you for trying,â Vincent smiled.
âI might be able to help,â I said, but Vincent gave me a warning look. âLook, we need to find Rosetta,â
âYou have a concussion, and it almost killed you last time!â Vincent scoffed.
âThis is just a normal wound, and we need to find your mother,â Vincent opened his mouth to say something but stopped. He knew I was right. He didnât like it, but it was the only way.
âI found out how to use my healing magic and it almost killed me,â I said.
âIâm not going to be responsible for your death if this goes wrong. Weâll find another way,â Grace said.
âDo any of you have other ideas on how to find Rosetta and the other?â I scoffed at them. Everyone was silent. âDidnât think so! I can do this, and I promise I will stop if it gets too much,â
Grace nodded and layed down on the bed. I removed the bandages with Elizabethâs held as Vincent and Henry left the room. Grace has three cuts from her belly up to her collarbone. The wound hadnât closed up properly and was still bleeding a little.
âNot so pretty is it?â Grace asked.
âWe had to hide in a hurry. We only have one other wizard. But he is wek from helaing others more wounded then Grace is so she had to wait,â Elizabeth said.
âWeâll fix that. Grace, stay still, this might hurt,â I said.
âCharming,â Grace chuckled.
I focused on my magic and could feel Dahlia knowing she didnât like this. I felt a tingling sensation in my hand. I had not fully recovered from healing Alex, but Grace didnât need as much healing as Alex did. Iâm counting on that, and Iâm hoping it works. I let the magic flow out of my hands, and the golden glow appeared as it covered the wounds. I focused my magic on sealing them. I didnât have time to recover, so I felt the draining effects. I noticed the cuts and bruises vanishing before my eyes, and I gave a smile.
âAmazing!â Elizabeth gasped.
After a few minutes, the cuts were nothing more than red lines. I closed off my magic and put my hands down. Grace patted her chest, and I saw the look of surprise.
âThe Moon Goddess has blessed you child,â Grace smiled at me as she sat up.
âThereâs blood coming out of your nose, Alyssa. You need to sit down,â Elizabeth said.
I sat down, touched my nose, and saw blood on my fingertips. âThis is nothing compared to last time,â I laughed softly.
âWell, thatâs not reassuring,â Elizabeth said.
âIs everything okay in there?â Henry said behind the door.
Elizabeth put on a clean shirt that Elizabeth gave and allowed Vincent and Henry to come in. âYou can come in boys,â
Vincent sat by my side. âHow are you feeling?â
âJust a little blood, Iâll be fine,â I smiled at him.
âWell, Iâll be damned,â Henry said when Grace showed them her healed wounds.
âI feel much better now; Iâll try to contact Kaiden as itâs the least I can do,â Grace said.
âGo get Alyssa some food, Vincent,â Henry asked, and Vincent nodded.
Vincent helped me stand; he placed his hand around my lower back, supporting my weight. âLetâs go, love,â Vincent said.
Vincent sat me on a chair by one of the tables and went to make me something to eat. I laid my head on the table and sighed. âIâm sorry for running like that, Vincent,â
âDonât worry about it, love. Youâve been through a lot, and Iâm just glad youâre alright,â Vincent placed a sandwich next to me on the table. âEat up, itâs turkey. Thereâs little to eat here, but I figured that was expected,â
âNowâs not the time to be picky. I ate the food as Vincent found an apple, and we ate silently.
Then, as we finished eating, Megan ran into the dining room. âGUYS! Grace got through to Kaiden. We know where they are,â Megan said,â
