At the end of the month, Gael Easton returned to the Imperial Capital.
But he only stayed for one day before leaving.
Luke met him on the way to the airport.
Gael was riding in the back seat with Ethan Clark and Noah Clark, and Luke sat in the front to ask for a small favor.
Kevin Clark and Charlotte Lane drove a separate car, following behind them.
At the airport, Gael leisurely walked towards the security checkpoint, holding the hands of the two little ones.
Luke didnât go in, and Kevin and Charlotte didnât approach either, just watching them from behind.
After a while, a foreigner came up to Gael and asked him something, to which Gael replied.
When the foreigner left, Noah looked at Gael with stars in his eyes: âDad Easton, your English is so good.â
Gael smiled: âIs it possible that your Dad Easton is a native English speaker?â
Noah: âHuh?â
Ethan chimed in: âThen your Chinese is really good.â
Gael squatted down and looked at the two of them: âThatâs all thanks to your mom.â
âWhy?â Noah asked, touching his own hair.
âBecause when I argue with your mom in English, sheâd just reply, âI donât understand,â and ignore me,â Gael said, âEven though we have no communication problems in daily life, we just canât communicate when weâre arguing.â
Ethan and Noah laughed.
âSo, I had to learn Chinese to argue with her.â Gael patted their heads.
âThen why did you argue with mom?â Ethan asked.
âUhâ¦â
Charlotte walked over and whispered: âOur characters donât match.â
âWould you argue if our characters donât match?â Ethan looked up and asked.
âNot only would we argue, but we would also fight,â Charlotte replied.
âDonât talk nonsense and teach the kids bad things,â Gael said.
âHurry up and go through security,â Kevin said.
Gael checked the time and hugged the children one by one: âDad Easton has to go. Next time Iâll definitely spend more time with you.â
âWhen is next time?â Noah asked, leaning on his shoulder.
âNext timeâ¦â Gael pondered for a moment, âIâll try to make it sooner than later. Okay, Iâm going now.â
He stood up and pushed the kids gently towards Kevin and Charlotte. Then he said to them, âThereâs something you guys mentioned, once Iâm done with it, Iâll have the prescription sent back to you.â
âThanks,â said Kevin.
Gael raised an eyebrow and looked at Charlotte: âCouldnât you be polite for once?â
Charlotte gave him a cold stare.
Gael: ââ¦Fine, fine, itâs better that way. If you said anything, Iâd think you were after my life.â
Charlotte squeezed Noahâs hand: âSay goodbye.â
Hearing her words, Ethan spoke first: âGoodbye, Dad Easton.â
Noah looked up at him, hesitated, and said, âDad Eastonâ¦goodbye.â
As the last words came out, Noahâs mouth twitched, and he began to cry.
When he cried, Ethanâs eyes also turned red.
Gaelâs heart trembled, and he immediately bent down to touch her face: âBaby, donât cry, donât cry. Iâll come back very soon.â
Then, Noah cried even harder, clinging to his clothes and pleading pitifully, âCanât you not leave?â
Gaelâs heart ached at her crying, and just as he was about to pick her up, Kevin beat him to it and picked her up himself.
Gaelâs hand froze, and he stood up to wipe Noahâs tears: âAlright, alright, donât cry. Iâll come back as soon as I can.â
âHow soon is that?â Noah looked at him.
âYou should go first,â Charlotte said, âSheâll be fine after crying for a while.â
Now, Gael just wished he could stay. He checked the time again and finally touched Noahâs head again: âDad Easton will come back as soon as heâs done with his work, and heâll get it done quickly. Donât cry.â
Noah sobbed: âThen hurry up.â
âOkay, I promise Iâll hurry up,â Gael assured her.
After speaking, he rubbed Ethanâs head again: âAlright, Iâm going now. You guys should go back.â
As they watched Gael leave,
Kevin, holding Noah who was still crying, said, âDonât cry anymore. If he doesnât come back, Daddy will take you to find him.â
âReally?â Noah asked softly.
âReally,â Kevin said gently, âDonât cry anymore.â
Kevin held Noah, Charlotte held Ethanâs hand, and the family of four walked away.
âI never expected Gael to be so fond of the two of them,â Charlotte said slowly.
Kevin looked at her with deep meaning in his eyes.
Charlotte met his gaze, squinted her eyes, and threatened in a serious tone, âWhat are you trying to say?â
Kevin smiled: âMy Lady is truly beautiful.â
Charlotte: ââ¦â¦â
She then smiled, spoke lightly in a dragged-out tone, but was very serious: âBrother Arthur is also the most handsome man in the world.â
Kevin extended a hand and laughed as he touched the top of her head.
â¦
Time flew by, and the three children started school, leaving Arthur North and Charlotte Lane busy for a while.
Gradually, the weather grew colder, and before the Cold Clothes Festival, Charlotte particularly set aside half a day.
After breakfast, she prepared to leave, and Arthur asked, âDo you really not need me to take you?â
Charlotte looked at him: âNo need, itâs not my first time going.â
âThen be careful when driving,â Arthur said.
âMm.â
Just as she spoke, she saw that Christopher Clark, who had already gone to school early, came back.
âWhat?â Charlotte looked at him, âDid you drop out?â
Christopher smiled and said, âI want to go with you.â
Arthur looked at him.
âNo,â Charlotte refused promptly.
âI should pay a visit,â Christopher said.
âIf there were really such a thing as a soul in this world, do you think he would want to see you?â Charlotte said indifferently.
Christopher thought for a while and said, âMaybe he does.â
Charlotte frowned.
Arthur said, âCharlotte, heâs all grown up now, let him make his own decisions.â
Charlotte gave him a glance and said nothing more.
Christopher followed her out of the door.
Arthur took the two younger ones to kindergarten.
On the way, Ethan Clark asked from behind, âDad, is mom going to meet that uncle on her own again today?â
âMm.â
âI have a question,â Ethan said.
âGo ahead.â
âWhy does mom always go alone, and you donât go?â Ethan asked.
Arthur looked straight ahead, his expression a bit fierce, but his voice as gentle as ever: âDaddy doesnât like him.â
âThen why doesnât mom take me and sister along? Mm⦠we go to Cold Green Village with her.â Ethan asked again, âNeither sister nor I dislike him.â
âHe doesnât like you guys,â Arthur said.
âWhy?â Ethan said, âNo one has ever disliked us. Even if they donât like me, they will definitely like my sister.â
Arthur ignored him.
After thinking for a while, Ethan had a sudden realization: âI understand now. That uncle doesnât like dad, and we are implicated.â
Noah Clark sneaked a look at Arthur.
Arthurâs face was cold, and he gritted his teeth, not paying any attention to Ethan all the way.
When they reached the entrance of the kindergarten, he threw Ethan in and told the teacher, âHe wants to eat spinach today, so please give him some more at noon.â
Ethanâs little face looked as if it had been struck by lightning.
The teacher happily praised Ethan, âEthan, youâre so good today, Iâll definitely give you more at noon.â
Then Arthur left without looking back, ignoring Ethanâs hurried apologies and pleas.
â¦
Meanwhile, Charlotte drove and took Christopher to the cemetery.
After getting out of the car, Charlotte held a bouquet of flowers in her arms and looked at Christopher: âAre you sure you want to go?â
âMm.â Christopher smiled, âItâs been so many years, Iâm fine now.â
The weather was a bit cloudy today with a slight breeze, making it a little cold.
But as soon as Charlotte got out of the car, the sun came out. The sunlight fell on her body slowly.
She walked up the steps one by one, and after reaching the top, she walked inside and stopped in front of a tombstone.
Christopher followed her, and after stopping, he looked at the name on the tombstone.
Edward Kirsten.
His fingertips curled slightly.
Charlotte placed the flowers in front of the tomb and stood there for a while without saying anything.
It had been like this for years, she would make a trip to the cemetery each year before the Cold Clothes Festival, stand there for a while, and leave without saying anything.
âDo you want to spend some time alone here?â Charlotte asked.
Christopher looked at her, and after a moment, he nodded.
Charlotte walked back, and as she reached the steps, she encountered Stella Edwards coming up.
Stella was also holding a bouquet of flowers, and when she saw Charlotte, she hesitated slightly and then smiled, âHere to see him too?ân/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
âMm.â Charlotte replied, âChristopher is over there, letâs wait a while.â
âOkay.â Stella stood by her side and after a while said, âHelp me out.â
âHmm?â
âStop letting Teacher always introduce me to blind date candidates,â Stella said with a smile.
Charlotte looked at her and after a while said, âHave you made up your mind?â
âMm.â Stella nodded and looked into the distance, âIn life, you really shouldnât meet someone who amazes you so much.â
Charlotte looked at her and then looked into the distance as well, âAll right, Iâll talk to my mom about it.â
Stella raised her lips in a smile: âThanks.â
