While waiting for the ambulance, Amelia Smith and Eleanor Smith went up to Sofia Smithâs room.
Sofia Smith was lying on the bed, receiving an IV drip, with no color in her face, and her breathing was very weak.
Amelia Smith called out to her a few times, but there was no response.
Eleanor Smith kept vigil by the bed, while Amelia Smith reported her older sisterâs condition to William Lane.
William Lane stood outside the door without entering, and after understanding the situation, he made a phone call.
When he came back, he wiped away Amelia Smithâs tears and said, âIâve contacted the medical team, a helicopter from Imperial Capital will arrive soon, donât worry.â
Christopher Willow overheard his words and glanced at him.
Amelia Smith nodded, and as her head moved, the tears fell.
William Lane pulled her into his arms, gently stroking her head, âDonât cry. Are you in pain anywhere? Your face, your hand, your arm? Did they hurt you?â
âNo,â Amelia Smith said softly.
âAlright, donât cry anymore. The ambulance is here,â William Lane said.
â¦
Arriving at the hospital, Sofia Smith was taken to the emergency rescue room. Within a few minutes, the Imperial Capitalâs medical team arrived.
They greeted William Lane and then went inside.
More than an hour later, the rescue room door opened, and Amelia Smith and Eleanor Smith rushed over asking, âHow is she?â
âSheâs been bleeding a bit because of a miscarriage and the stress of the journey,â the doctor said, âNow the bleeding has stopped, and sheâs out of danger.â
âWill this affect future pregnancies?â Eleanor Smith asked.
âPlease be assured, proper recuperation wonât cause any problems.â The doctor finished speaking and then looked at William Lane.
William Lane introduced, âThis is my wife, and this is her sister.â
âSo this is Mrs. Lane.â The doctor said, âDonât worry, we have professionals for later care, which wonât affect Miss Smithâs health.â
Eleanor Smith suddenly looked at William Lane, her swollen eyes staring at him in surprise.
William Lane saw her looking at him and nodded politely.
But Eleanor Smith didnât divert her eyes, she kept staring at him.
Amelia Smith was still discussing the details with the doctor, totally unaware of them. Until William Lane pulled at Amelia Smithâs clothes and then Amelia looked at him, âWhatâs up?â
William Lane looked down at her and gave her a glance.
Amelia Smith didnât catch on, she squeezed his hand and continued talking with the doctor.
William Lane: ââ¦â¦â
Finally, when Sofia Smith was pushed from the ward, Eleanor Smith finally moved her gaze, looking at her older sister.
Back in the ward, the doctor said that due to excessive blood loss, the body is weak, and she may need to sleep for a while.
Amelia Smith and Eleanor Smith stayed by the bed for a while, and then when William Lane conscientiously took himself out⦠Eleanor Smith looked at Amelia Smith and asked, âAre you married?â
Amelia Smith glanced at her, then nodded.
Upon seeing this, Christopher Willow also quietly left the ward. He stood outside the door with William Lane, like two door gods, one on each side.
âWhen did this happen?â Eleanor Smith asked.
âA few months ago.â
âA few months ago!â Eleanor Smith whispered loudly, âYou donât tell us about such a big thing! The hospital mom is staying in is also arranged by him, isnât it?â
Amelia Smith nodded again.
âYouâ¦â Eleanor Smith didnât know what to say to her, paused and said, âWhat does his family do? Are they a decent family?â
The ward door wasnât shut tight, although Eleanor Smithâs voice was low, William Lane heard it quite clearly.
Christopher Willow looked at William Lane, feeling his facial expression wasnât quite right.
âHis family is in business,â Amelia Smith raised her head and glanced at the door not completely closed, âAs for whether it is a legitimate business⦠itâs hard to say.â
Outside the door, William Lane: ââ¦â¦.â
Eleanor Smith poked the head with her finger: âHow can you be so audacious! Look at the grandeur he brought here. Does it seem like heâs a decent person?! If anything happens to him in the future, can you escape from it? â
Amelia Smith smiled, and then walked to the door and opened it.
Upon hearing the noise, William Lane turned his head and looked.
âEavesdropping?â Amelia Smith said.
âI am openly listening.â William Lane, propping up her chin with his hand, he swayed it a little, staring at the red mark pinched out on her face, which had turned a bit purple, âWhoâs boujee now? Is this how you discredit my persona? â
Amelia Smith laughed and pulled his hand down, holding their hands together and kneading it, she said, âBrother, join my brother-in-law for a chat. You can come back later.â
âYou donât even let me listen.â William Lane said, âYou want to defame me thoroughly.â
âHehe.â Amelia Smith grinned at him.
Christopher Willow was standing on the side, watching them.
âAlright.â William Lane stroked her hair, âHurry up, Iâll take you to apply some ointment.â
âHuh?â
âOn your face.â William Lane lightly touched her face, âGo.â
âHmm.â
William Lane and Christopher Willow walked away.
Amelia Smith returned to her room, and Eleanor Smith looked at her inspectively: âSeems happy.â
âJust trying to keep pace with you and brother-in-law. After all these years, brother-in-law is still so nice to you.â Amelia Smith said.
âStop talking about me, letâs talk about you.â Eleanor Smith said, âWhat exactly is his family doing?â
Amelia Smith paused for a while and said: âSis, you know Old Master Lane, right?â
âWhich Old Master Lane?â Eleanor Smith asked.
âThe Old Master Lane we used to see on the news when we were young.â After Amelia Smith finished, she whispered a name in her ear, and then said, âThis is his grandson.â
âWhat?!â
âSis, lower your voice.â Amelia Smith said.
âYou ⦠you â¦â Eleanor Smith covered her mouth, she stared at her in shock, âHow ⦠Someway, you guys ended up together?â
Amelia Smith was silent for a while before she said: âJust.. a coincidence, perhaps, it was fate.â
Eleanor Smith had trouble getting over the reality that was in front of her. It took her a while before she grabbed Amelia Smithâs shoulder and shook her, saying, âAmelia, Amelia, I truly never saw it coming. I was already surprised enough when you got married. You despised marriage so much as a child. You gave me the idea that you were the type of person whoâd rather be shot than forced to marry.â
Amelia Smith laughed a little and said: âSo now I understand Sofia a little.â
Due to family reasons, Amelia Smith hated marriage since she was a child, she would rather be single than start a family.
Likewise, Sofia Smith, had similar thoughts regarding family.
She longed to have a family and wished to have a child.
She was desperate for a serene and blissful family, to compensate for her own deficiencies, she had been painstakingly managing her own family.
But the expected child was never there.
âI have no idea if Sofia will still think the same after all this.â Eleanor Smith said.
âWe canât abandon the life we want because of being victimized by a family of trash.â Amelia Smith said.
The two sisters were silent for a while looking at the person lying on the bed, and Eleanor Smith asked, âDoes he treat you well?â
Amelia Smith looked at her and gave a nod.
Eleanor Smith chuckled and said, âTodayâs grandeur speaks for itself. What about his family?â
âTheyâre also very nice.â Amelia Smith said.
Eleanor Smith nodded and said, âAmelia, nor me or your brother-in-law have a lot to offer, our ability to help you is limited. Remember, no matter what, no matter what happens in the future, youâll always have us. We might not be able to offer you much, but rest assured, weâll provide you shelter for life, you have a family.â
âHmm.â Leaning on her shoulder, Amelia Smith said, âSecond Sister Davis, I know.ân/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
