Amelia Smith didnât have dinner and slept until the next day, after nine in the morning.
When she opened her eyes, she looked at her bright room, and her head was spinning. She didnât know what year it was or what time it was.
Who is she, and where is she?
It took a while for her consciousness to catch up, and then she felt the chill on her leg.
Amelia suddenly sat up and saw William Lane sitting at the foot of the bed with his head down, then she fell back into the bed: âAh.â
William heard her sigh and walked over to the head of the bed, putting the ointment and cotton swabs on the bedside table and sat on the bed. He pulled Ameliaâs face out of the pillow, âWhatâs wrong?â
âMy back hurts.â Amelia said, looking pitiful.
Williamâs hand reached into the blanket to massage her waist: âItâs so thin. I didnât dare apply much force yesterday.â
Amelia couldnât believe what she heard and stared at him in shock. After a moment of silence, she asked, trembling, âSay that again. Are you blaming me? Is it my fault? Did you use less force?â
William leaned down and kissed her, âMy fault, all my fault. Donât be mad.â
Amelia felt wronged.
William whispered gently, âIâll be more gentle next time.â
âReally?â
William: â⦠Iâll try my best.â
Amelia turned her head away and ignored him. After a while, she asked, âWhat were you doing just now?â
âApplying the medicine.â
âWhat medicine?â
William massaged her waist slowly, âMedicine to reduce bruising. It will make the marks on your skin fade faster.â
â⦠Oh.â
âAre you hungry?â asked William.
âI donât know.â Amelia laid on the bed and sunk her head back into the pillow, mumbling, âI canât feel anything.â
âDonât sleep anymore, eat something, and then sleep.â William propped up her face.
âDid you ask for leave for me?â Amelia asked.
âI asked for leave the day before yesterday,â William replied, âfor three days.â
Amelia opened her eyes and looked at him, thinking she was giving him a fierce look: âHmph!â
William laughed and kissed her again, âIâll go downstairs to get some food. Have a bite before going back to sleep.â
âI wonât.â
William squinted his eyes, âRebellious phase?â
âYeah. So what?â Amelia smelled the fragrance of the pillow.
âItâs nothing.â William rubbed her head, âJust a little brat. Easy to handle.â
âYouâre the kid.â Amelia muttered.
âAt my age⦠I canât be a kid anymore.â William rubbed her head again, âBe good, Iâm going to get some food.â
âOh.â
â¦
Amelia rested at home for another two days, not even getting out of bed on the first day. She ate some food in the morning and slept again, then watched Charlotteâs TV series for a half-day in bed in the afternoon.
It had been a long time since she had been this unproductive.
The next day, William stayed with her and read books all day. When Amelia didnât understand something, William would explain it to her.
William had initially wanted her to stay at home for another day.
However, Amelia was too anxious about being unproductive and couldnât stay at home any longer.
So, William took her to the Dance Association.
In the evening, there was a class. After William got off work from the Research Institute, he dropped her off at the school and went to work overtime at his family-owned company. After Ameliaâs class, he picked her up again.
âAre you tired?â William brought her some fruits and handed them to her.
âNot tired.â Amelia took the fruit box, opened it and ate a piece of watermelon, âSo sweet.ân/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
William smiled and helped her fasten her seat belt before kissing her lips, âHmm, quite sweet.â
Amelia pursed her lips, then inserted a piece of watermelon for him.
William ate it and started the car, âThis piece is not as sweet as yours.â
Amelia chuckled, âNonsense, itâs obviously the same melon. You say that, but the melons must feel wronged.â
William laughed too, then said after a while, âLetâs go back to the old mansion. I have to go on a business trip tomorrow.â
âHuh?â Amelia looked at him.
âItâs just domestic.â William said, âIt will be quick, two days at most.â
After a pause, he said, âIâll try to make it in two days. Why donât you come with me?â
Amelia shook her head, âYou be careful and come back soon.â
William sighed reluctantly, âOkay.â
Since Amelia lived in the old mansion, someone from the old mansion would pick her up and drop her off at the Dance Association and school with Sophie Ortiz.
So, William temporarily took James Lane away to deal with business matters in other places.
On the first night that Amelia slept alone at home, she could not fall asleep.
No matter how she tossed and turned, she couldnât sleep.
It wasnât until 2 AM that she fell asleep, but she woke up again, shortly before six oâclock. After washing and rinsing, Amelia accompanied the already awake Old Master Lane for a walk in the courtyard.
Then, Amelia had breakfast and went to the Dance Association with Sophie Ortiz.
There was a small performance, and Sophie wanted Amelia to join her.
Amelia hadnât been on stage for a long time due to various reasons and had mainly been practicing.
This time, they were going to perform a repertoire they had rehearsed before.
Amelia had rehearsed with them but hadnât been on stage with them.
When Sophie asked her this time, Amelia readily agreed.
But, as soon as she agreed, within ten minutes, Amelia received a phone call from her second sister.
The sisters stayed in touch regularly, but they rarely called each other.
So when Amelia saw her number at this time, she had a bad feeling.
Once she answered the call, Eleanor Smith cried, âAmelia, our eldest sister is in the hospital. She⦠I⦠I went to the hospital, and her in-laws wouldnât let me see her. I canât contact her either. I⦠I called the police, but they treated it as a family dispute and left shortly after.â
It took Amelia a moment to recover from the shock, leaning against a wall, âWhich⦠which hospital is she in?â
âIn⦠in that private hospital in Wakefield County,â Eleanor said through her tears, âI donât know what to do? I donât know how she is right now. But she⦠sheâs in the maternity department. But⦠but she never told us anything.â
âDonât worry, donât worry. Iâll be right there,â Amelia said, while walking out of the house.
She hailed a taxi at the entrance, reported the destination, and left.
It wasnât until ten to fifteen minutes after hanging up the phone that Amelia came to her senses, remembering to ask for leave from Sophie and telling her she had something going on, so she might need to ask for a few days off and wouldnât be able to participate in the performance.
Sophie immediately gave her leave and was concerned about her, asking what had happened.
Amelia didnât know the situation over there, so she just told Sophie that it had something to do with her family.
Sophie told Amelia to inform her if anything happened.
Amelia agreed. After hanging up the phone, she called the school to ask for leave as well.
