As the full moon banquet was nearing its end, security from Doomsday Hotel went to find Charlotte Lane, as there was a woman outside who wanted to see her.
âWhatâs her name?â Kevin Clark asked.
âShe said her surname is Zheng,â the security guard said. âSheâs been lingering at the hotel entrance for a while. Our staff approached her, and she asked to see the young lady.â
Charlotte Lane and Kevin Clark exchanged glances: âIâll take a look.â
âIâll accompany you.â
Both went to the entrance.
The woman was standing with her back to the entrance. When she heard the footsteps, she turned to look at them.
After turning around, Charlotte Lane and Kevin Clark stopped to look at her.
The woman was wearing a long dress, with long hair over her shoulders, and a blue flower hairpin on her right ear. Upon seeing them, she smiled and said, âItâs been a long time since I last saw you two.â
Charlotte Lane and Kevin Clark looked at the woman in front of them.
Although they didnât show it on their faces, both were somewhat nostalgic in their hearts.
It was the woman who was used 319 in the Spotlight Gala years ago and was bullied by those people.
At that time, Charlotte Lane promised her that she would definitely save her.
Charlotte Lane didnât break her promise.
âLong time no see,â said Charlotte Lane.
Miss Sawyer said, âI really wanted to see you long before, but at that time you were pregnant, and I didnât know where to find you. Today, I saw the news online and thought Iâd try my luck here.â
âLetâs go upstairs and sit down,â said Charlotte Lane.
Miss Sawyer nodded.
They went upstairs and found a quiet place, and Kevin Clark left.
Sitting across from each other, Charlotte Lane asked, âHas your body fully recovered?â
âYes,â Miss Sawyer said, âItâs completely healed. Thank you.â
Charlotte Lane shook her head.
âI really want to thank you,â Miss Sawyer said. âAt that time, I didnât want to live anymore, but you pulled me back. Thatâs why I can sit here now and still see the countless sceneries of this world.â
âThereâs nothing you canât get through,â Charlotte Lane said. âAs long as you stay alive, things will always get better.â
âI believe that now,â Miss Sawyer said. âWhen I think back to what happened before, it feels like a dream. After waking up, itâs just a dream. Compared to my life, it doesnât even account for a fraction of it. My good life shouldnât be ruined by this little thing.â
Charlotte Lane looked at her, listening to her words, her fingers rubbing the table.
âThe treatments in the hospital were really painful. 319 would have recurrent attacks. Each attack would replay the events of that day,â Miss Sawyer said. âBecause of the hallucinations caused by 319, each attack felt like a personal experience. I could always clearly feel them touching my body. It was truly worse than death.â
Charlotte Laneâs hand clenched a bit tighter.
âThere was nothing that could suppress 319. I thought the hospital was really just there to prevent us from committing suicide during the attacks. They all told me to bear it, that it could be overcome. But without experiencing it firsthand, you wouldnât know the feeling.â
âBut every time, I would faintly hear your voice, saying that there was still hope for me, that I could be saved. I thinkâ¦since you were so serious when you said it, you certainly wouldnât break your word. So I held on,â she said, and smiled.â
Miss Sawyer laughed, âIâm living a very good life now. Before, I was always worried that others would think I was a monster and look at me differently. However, when I bravely went out and tried to connect and communicate with others, I realized that everything is beautiful, and that kindness always outweighs evil. As for the evil ones⦠why should I waste my emotions and energy on those who treat me badly?â
Charlotte Lane nodded.
âActually, like you said, the opinions and evaluations of others are not that importantâhow to live our lives matters most,â Miss Sawyer said. âThe important thing is to face ourselves and not to despise ourselves. It doesnât matter what others think.â
Charlotte Lane responded with a sound.
âSo in any case, I should thank you in person.â
â¦
After Miss Sawyer left, Charlotte Lane stood at the entrance of the Doomsday Hotel for a while, until Kevin Clark found her.
Kevin Clark touched her face.
Charlotte Lane looked sideways at him.
âEveryone has their choices,â Kevin Clark said softly. âWe canât change what has already happened, but fortunately, we made some efforts to prevent further tragedy.â
Charlotte Lane lowered her gaze, took a step forward, and leaned into Kevin Clarkâs embrace.
Kevin Clark kissed her hair, âIn a few days, Iâll accompany you back to Cold Green Village.â
âMm.â
â¦
After the banquet was over and most people had left, only a few stayed at the Doomsday Hotel.
Charlotte Lane went upstairs to see Luke after the finishing touches were done.
Kevin Clark followed her into the elevator when he saw her press the button going up, âWhat are you doing?â
âGoing to see Luke,â Charlotte Lane said. âHeâs upstairs.â
âDidnât see much of him today,â Kevin Clark entered the elevator with her.
âMm.â
Both reached the top floor open to the public, went to Lukeâs room, and Charlotte Lane knocked on the door.
It took a while for Luke to come and open the door: âBig Boss, Third Master.â
There was a crack in the door, and they could see Lukeâs arm being grabbed by someone, but they couldnât see the person inside.
Charlotte Lane glanced at the slender fingers around Lukeâs arm and asked, âCan we come in?â
âYes,â Luke opened the door a little wider.
Only then did Kevin Clark see the girl grabbing Lukeâs arm.
He was taken aback.
The girlâs appearance was very similar to Charlotte Laneâs.
She wasnât as stunning as Charlotte Lane, nor did she have the cold demeanor.
The girl looked at them, her grip on Lukeâs arm tightened, and her eyes seemed a little frightened.
Yet she just pursed her lips tightly, standing next to Luke and watching them without any excessive reaction.
Charlotte Lane glanced at her, held back her gaze for fear of scaring her.
It was indeed similar, even she herself thought they were alike.
It was because they looked alike that Edward Kirsten abducted and drove her insane.
Once inside the room, Kevin Clark and Charlotte Lane sat on the sofa.
Meanwhile, Luke took the girl back to the room.
Charlotte Lane sat thoughtfully as she heard Luke say, âBe good and stay here, count to one hundred and Iâll come back.â
âOkay,â the girlâs voice was very gentle and soft.
But, as soon as Luke turned around and was about to close the door, the girl suddenly spoke up quickly, âOne hundred, Iâm done counting.â
Luke paused as he was closing the door: ââ¦â¦â
Outside, Charlotte Lane raised her eyebrows.
Kevin Clark furrowed his brows, feeling something was off.
âBe good, I have something to discuss,â Luke said patiently. âIâll take you to have cotton candy later.â
âCount to one hundred?â The girl asked.
âCount to three hundred,â Luke suddenly changed his mind.
The girl looked at him without saying a word.
âThree hundred. Iâll buy you two.â Luke added.
âOkay,â the girl agreed again.
That was when Luke successfully closed the door.
