Kevin Clark said that someone would come to pick them up, and as soon as he mentioned Dark Radiance, the M Continent police became more polite.
He called to have someone come pick them up.
While waiting for someone to come, Kevin Clark and Charlotte Lane took a rest and listened to the stories of how these people were deceived.
All nineteen men and women were all deceived by online relationships.
They went to different places to meet face to face and were then taken to this place.
The police said that this organization probably specialized in using online relationships as a means of deception.
They would divide into many smaller groups, each with its own deceptive methods.
Charlotte Lane and Kevin Clark did not say much more. When someone came to pick them up, they took their belongings and prepared to leave.
In the grand hall, the deceived people were sitting in a row on the long bench.
Jessica Maxwell saw Charlotte Lane coming out and instinctively followed her.
Charlotte Lane saw her running over and paused for a moment.
âDaisy Zane.â
Charlotte Lane did not respond, just looking at her.
Jessica Maxwell clenched her clothes and whispered, âThank you.â
After that, she said, âIâm sorry.â
Charlotte Lane paused for a moment, and said âYouâre welcome.â, but she didnât accept the apology.
Jessica Maxwellâs face was covered with dried tear marks, and her eyes were still red, looking quite pitiful. Charlottet Lane didnât say anything after saying âYouâre welcomeâ and neither did Jessica.
She just stood there with her head down, like a child who had done something wrong.
âIs there anything else?â Charlottet Lane asked.
âYou heard about how I was deceived, didnât you?â Jessica suddenly asked.
âYes.â Charlotte Lane replied.
âDonât you have anything to say to me?â Jessicaâs head lowered even more due to embarrassment and shame.
It seemed she was prepared to accept Charlottet Laneâs ridicule.
Charlotte Lane put her hands in her pockets, looked at her, and said after a while, âOnline relationships are risky, be cautious when meeting in person.â
Kevin Clark raised his eyebrow.
Jessica looked up at her: âThatâs all?â
âWhat else?â Charlotte Lane replied, âYou organized such a big online event to slander me. Since youâre so capable and yet got deceived, apart from advising you to be cautious, what else can I say?â
Jessica frowned, met her calm gaze, and immediately lowered her head again: âIâve already apologized.â
âYes, but I didnât accept it.â Charlotte Lane said calmly.
Jessica was choked up. After a few seconds, she said, âItâs your fault, too. Third Master told me. Iâve been in a daze these days, thatâs why it was so easy for me to get deceived.â
âSo youâre blaming me?â Charlotte Lane asked rhetorically.
âI blame myself.â Jessica said weakly, âI shouldnât have slandered you for no reason.â
âYou know it was for no reason. Itâs all right, later someone will come to take several domestic ones back to the country.â Charlotte Lane said, âYou should cooperate with the investigation here.â
âOh.â
â¦
Dark Radianceâs people from the M Continent branch came to pick them up.
More than one car came, it was a fleet, each car with the flag of Dark Radiance on it.
When Kevin Clark and Charlotte Lane came out, they were stunned by the scene in front of them.
The leader was a woman with a delicate appearance.
When she saw them coming out, the girl immediately went to greet them, âThird Master.â
Charlotte Lane looked at her, wasnât she the female version of James Cooper?
Kevin Clark responded, then introduced her to Charlottet Lane with, âAlfie Ward, the person in charge of this side of the M Continent.â
Alfie Ward looked at Charlotte Lane, and with a smile and a dimple on the left side of her face, âHello sister-in-law, my name is Alfie Ward.â
Charlotte Lane raised her eyebrow, it was the first time she had been called sister-in-law, and it felt new: âHello.â
Kevin Clark looked at Charlotte Laneâs smiling mouth, âSheâs James Cooperâs sister.â
âThird Master, itâs my older sister.â
Kevin Clark ignored her.
Alfie Ward pouted, then laughed and said, âSister-in-law, this way, please.â
Once they got into the car, Kevin Clark asked, âWhy did you bring so many people?â
âFor the pomp,â Alfie Ward replied, âDark Radiance is on the move, and since itâs to pick you up, the pomp should be greater.â
Charlotte Lane closed her eyes.
Whether it was Dark Radiance, Ryan Easton, or D Continent, everyone in Imperial Capital was afraid of Kevin Clark.
However, Siera Santiago and Alfie Ward didnât seem as frightened of him.
Kevin Clark always seemed a bit gentler with girls, but still maintained his distance.
âWe just caught a deception syndicate,â Kevin Clark said, âThere should be a larger organization behind them. Look into it and take care of it.â
âYes,â Alfie Ward replied.
âAlso, there were a few from the domestic country at the hotel. After assisting in the investigation, have someone send them back to their country.â
âYes.â
Kevin Clark looked at Charlotte Lane, who had closed her eyes, and then said to Alfie Ward, âDrive smoothly.â
Alfie Ward looked outside through the rearview mirror, then smiled indulgently and said, âOkay.â
â¦
They rested for a day in M Continent and then stayed for another day in Mountain Sea Continent before returning to Imperial Capital.
After returning to the Imperial Capital, the two went to the Research Institute every day.
Kevin Clark occasionally went to Ryan Easton as well.
Andrew Lane accompanied Sophie Ortiz on a tour.
So for the time being, no one was available to take Charlotte Lane.
Charlotte Lane went to visit Old Master Lane on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
On Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, she went to Clark Manor with Kevin Clark.
On Sundays, where she went was up to her mood.
Two weeks after coming back, they rested for a day on Sunday.
After having breakfast, Kevin Clark went to the Easton Group, and Charlotte Lane stayed at home. After eating breakfast, she took over Kevin Clarkâs study room.
She organized the experimental data and then began writing her thesis.
After lunch, Charles Amos joined her in the study room.
As she wrote her thesis, Charles Amos hugged his computer, typing and pausing in between, coding programs.
Charlotte Lane glanced at him: âWhat are you doing?â
âMr. Clark assigned me a task.â Perhaps he encountered some difficulties, and Charles Amosâ little face looked a bit bitter.
âWhat task?â
âHe wants me to inherit Ryan Easton, so I have to learn some things now,â Charles Amos said seriously.
Charlotte Lane: ââ¦â¦â
Charles Amos typed a few more characters and then stopped to look at Charlotte Lane.
Charlotte Lane knew what he was thinking as soon as she saw his eyes and immediately said, âI canât help you, donât look at me.â
âBut youâre Nathan Ninevara.â
âJust because Iâm Nathan Ninevara doesnât mean I have to know everything,â Charlotte Lane continued writing her thesis, ignoring him.
Seeing that she really wouldnât help him, Charles Amos had no choice but to note down what he didnât understand and wait to ask Kevin Clark when he got back.
After a while, Charles Amos said, âDid something happen?â
âWhat do you mean?â Charlotte Laneâs eyes remained on her computer.
âEvery time I go out these days, an uncle follows me,â Charles Amos said, âI already have bodyguards with me when I leave the house, so why suddenly add another one who sticks so close to me?â
Charlotte Laneâs expression changed slightly, and then she said, âClose protection pays more money. They just want to earn more money.â
Charles Amosâs lips twitched, and he accepted this reason: ââ¦Okay.â
At around the 3 p.m., Charles Amos fell asleep in the study room. Charlotte Lane carried him back to the bedroom and watched him for a while before going to the Lotus Pond to walk around for a bit.
She sat on the swing, looking at the blooming lotuses.
After a while, she heard approaching footsteps and stopped the swing to look over.
Wilton Edwards walked over, stopped, looked at her with kind eyes, and called out, âLady.â
