Book 2: Chapter 16: Seeing Reason and Touching Emotions
âWeâ¦we lostâ¦. Sob! Sob!â
âYouâ¦you are quite capable. Weâllâ¦weâll let you let off for today.â
Unexpectedly, the two had the potential for comical dialogue. Even after losing so thoroughly, they still stubbornly talked back.
Although Chen Heng easily defeated these two Servants, it did not mean they were weak. Rather, the gap between their strengths was just too wide; the advantage from using an A-ranked Dragonslayer, too overwhelming. Fujimaru Ritsuka did not give up on adding these two to their combat forces, so she came over and consoled them. âAlright, alright. We arenât bad people. We are just looking for Masterless Servants to fight the Dragon Witch Jeanne dâArc Alter. Didnât Elizabeth say she wanted to deal with Carmilla? In a way, we are natural allies.â
âThatâs right. That is the reason. I did not use my full power only because I saw that you were allies.â
âMe too.â
ââ¦â Fujimaru Ritsuka suddenly felt that her consolation might not have helped.
In the end, Elizabeth and Kiyohime chose to join the team to fight the Dragon Witch, Jeanne dâArc Alter, after Chen Heng made them see reason and touched their emotions.
By the time the group dealt with everything, it was already four in the afternoon. This time was not suitable for a decisive battle. Furthermore, they had traveled the entire day, and the Servants were not in their best state. It would be better if they rested for the night.
Eventually, Chen Heng and the others chose a forest near Thiers with a ley line as the base for their final night. The decisive battle would take place the next day. Whether they lost or won, this would be the last night.
After choosing the baseâs location, they took out all the items needed for camping. The Servants pitched the tents while Chen Heng headed to Jura alone.
[TL Note: Wikipedia entry on Jura: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jura_(department).]
While traveling during the day, Chen Heng and the others had come across a group of French soldiers fighting wyverns. He had lent them a hand, killing all the wyverns.
Incidentally, he had also asked about the location of the Frenchâs main forces.
The French soldiers had not refused to answer this question, as Chen Heng had saved them. They had told him that Marshal Gilles de Raisâs French soldiers were gathering in Jura.
Why was Chen Heng going to Jura? Of course, to muster reinforcements.
Under Gilles de Raisâs suggestion, the Dragon Witch had been using the Holy Grail to frantically fill her ranks since the morning. Chen Heng intended to use his Noble Phantasm on Orléans twice tomorrow. That should destroy most of the wyverns and skeleton soldiers. However, expecting to take out all of them was not realistic. That was where the French soldiers came in.
After all, Chen Heng and the others could not split their attention to destroy the wyverns and skeleton soldiers while dealing with the enemy Servants, right? Under certain circumstances, the Frenchâs cannons were quite useful.
Thiers was not far from Jura, especially when Chen Heng traveled alone. Using his ability to fly alone was starkly different from ferrying others. He reached Jura in half an hour.
Chen Hengâs ability to fly shocked the soldiers manning Juraâs city gates. After some twists and turns, he successfully met with the regular version of Gilles de Rais.
Then, he used logic and emotions to convince Gilles de Rais that he was there to help them.
âMarshal, we are preparing to launch a decisive attack on Orléans tomorrow.â
âWe? You are referring to the Servants you spoke of, right?â
âThatâs right. Jeanne dâArc is among them. You might see her tomorrow.â
âJeanne dâArc!â
âYes. The real Jeanne dâArc. Speaking of which, you donât really believe that the Dragon Witch, Jeanne dâArc Alter, is the real Jeanne dâArc, right? That canât be, right? That canât be?â
ââ¦I have always doubted it. The Jeanne dâArc that I know absolutely would not attack France out of rage because of her death. That Dragon Witch that could put the entire France through hell is definitely a counterfeit.â
------
After some discussion:
âRemember, do not approach within ten kilometers of Orléans before noon. Furthermore, it would best if everyone remains prone.â
âWhy?â
âBecause I will be launching two attacks on Orléans tomorrow at noon, covering a large area, which will cause strong shock waves. If you do not want to get injured, stay ten kilometers away from Orléans. Alright. I have told you about it. Iâm leaving now. Goodbye.â
Gilles de Rais remained silent as he watched Chen Heng open a window and soar into the sky. Then, he looked at the portrait of Jeanne dâArc in his hand. After that, he summoned his adjutant and issued commands.
------
âHe Who Knows Fate, you finally returned. Quickly start cooking!â As Masters had a connection with their Servants, they could sense each otherâs location. So, when Chen Heng approached, he saw Fujimaru Ritsuka staring at the sky, looking for him.
ââ¦â
Actually, the ingredients for the ManchuâHan Imperial Feast in Chen Hengâs spatial storage were for cooking for Sirin the next day. However, he had to use them in this Singularity because of Fujimaru Ritsuka.
Alright. Iâll just buy more when I return home. Or, I can use points to purchase higher-quality ingredients. The function of the Dimension Administrators Associationâs store selling physical items is simply too awesome!
One hour later:
âAh! What delicious food! It lives up to the ManchuâHan Imperial Feast! I have never been so satiated before! I say, He Who Knows Fate, how about coming to Chaldea?â Fujimaru Ritsuka asked Chen Heng as she leaned back in her chair after eating her fill.
âMe? Why should I go to Chaldea? To cook for you? Let me say this first, my cooking skills may be good, but I do not like cooking. You canât summon me even if I am willing to cook for you. This is a special situation, as the other side has an ultimate form dragon, the evil dragon Fafnir. Thatâs why I got summoned.â Chen Heng smashed Fujimaru Ritsukaâs wonderful dream.
âHahâ¦Itâs a pity that you are not coming to Chaldea.â Fujimaru Ritsuka felt disappointed at Chen Hengâs answer.
âWhat is a pity? That you canât eat my food anymore?â Chen Heng glanced at Fujimaru Ritsuka and voiced what was in her heart.
âDear me. Hehehe! Itâs enough that you know; donât say it out loud. I will miss the taste in the days you are not around.â
âAlthough I wonât be summoned to Chaldea, thereâs a good chance we will meet again in your future journey.â
âReally? Itâs a promise. You canât break it!â
