âWait⦠your brother did this?â Felix growled as his fists clenched into balls at his side.
âWeâre not on good terms.â Lexiâs father snapped as Felix eyed him dubiously.
Lexi looked between the two of them and suddenly, it seemed like both Felix and her father had more in common with each other than any of them had ever thought possible.
A centuries old Daemon Lord, and a relatively young Werewolf Prince. Lexi swore internally at herself as she began to question her earlier hastiness at assuming Felixâs guilt based on his brotherâs actions.
Title of the document Had her father been trailed his whole life by his brotherâs deeds too?
âSo, you can fix this, right Papa?â Lexi asked, trying to pull herself out of her feelings surrounding her guilty conscience.
Lord Brarthoroz grunted in response as Lexi and Felix exchanged a look.
âPapa, if you know where she might be, we have to hurryâ¦she might still be alive.. she..â
âDonât you think I know that? Aoife, your motherâ¦â Lord Brarthorozâs voice cracked as he almost choked on his words, closing his eyes as if he could shut the pain out that way. âPapa, I know.â Lexi said quietly, âIf your brother took both of them, they might still both be alive. We need to find him.
Papaâ¦pleaseâ¦â
Lord Brathroroz sighed heavily.
âI donât even know where to start. If heâs had your mother all these yearsâ¦.how will I ever make it up to her?â
âListen, with all due respect, you can figure that out if we ever find them again but right now, you need to be focusing on finding your brother so that I can find my mate.. or at least answers.â Felix snapped testily.
Lord Brarthroroz nodded silently, turning the dagger in his hand once more as he seemed to come to a decision.
âIâll do what I can to track him down, but heâs a slippery fucker⦠always has been,â he growled. âIs there anything we can do to help?â Felix asked.
âWith tracking Eromaug? No. But Iâm certain that as soon as you find Narcissa and Ada, and their disgusting little coven, then weâll find him too.â
Felix nodded at him and as soon as he had finished speaking, he turned on his heel and left the room, leaving Lexi and Felix standing awkwardly alone in the room.
âDoesnât waste any time does he?â Felix commented dryly. âNope.â Lexi answered with a grin before her face turned serious. âListen, well find her, whatever has happened to her, okay?â
âYeah, I know. Iâll just try and stay focused by plotting how many ways Iâm going to torture whoever the f**k did this to avenge all of the suffering that Aoife went through in that moment.â
âI mean, I can suggest driving salt encrusted iron nails under their fingernails,â Lexi grinned, âDoesnât matter what species you are, that spot right there, ALWAYS hits the spot you want,â She winked as Felix looked at her with a horrified, yet awe-filled expression.
âYou make it sound like youâve done this beforeâ¦â
âMaybe I have,â Lexi shrugged as she examined her own fingernails, âMaybe I havenât. I guess youâll never know.â She winked as she made her way to the door, carefully stepping around the congealed blood on the floor as she made her way out and back into the corridor.
âIâll try not to let that disturb me as much as it should do, but I have one question,â Felix replied as he followed her out, âWhy the salt?â
Lexi stopped outside of Annâs room and smiled over her shoulder at him as her eyeâs glinted wickedly.
âDonât you know anything about Daemonâs?â She smirked, âItâs one of the few things that actually causes them excruciating pain. Itâll add a little extra spice to the wounds youâre already inflicting on whatever form theyâve chosen to take.â âChosenâ¦?â
Lexi sighed heavily.
âWell it looks like I need to put together the crash course on Daemons far quicker than I thought.â She muttered as she pushed through the doors into Annâs room, âIâll give you front row seats buster. Looks like youâre gonna need all the help you can get if you want to really do your vengeance justice⦠what theâ¦â Lexi froze as she entered Annâs room as her eyes filled with tears.
âAnn!â
Before Adam or Allen could stop her, a tangled sobbing mass of black curls threw themselves on top of Ann, wrapping her in a bear hug as she chuckled weakly.
âLexi⦠stopâ¦â she laughed, âLet me breathe.â Ann protested in a weary, yet amused voice as she patted her friends back.
âAh f**k! Iâm so sorry⦠I just⦠Iâm so happy to see you more aware and..actually sat upâ¦â Lexi forced out between sobs, biting her lip to stop herself from crying before suddenly erupting in floods of tears, âDonât you EVER leave me again like that! Do you understand?!â
Ann smiled fondly at her and reached for her hand, the wires still attached to her dragging across the sheets and catching a little as she did so.
âI donât plan on it, donât worry.â She smiled softly as she laid her head back on the pillow, clearly still exhausted, âTell me, did I miss much while Iâve been out of action?â
Lexi glanced at Adam and Allen as she sat on the edge of Annâs bed, not knowing how to tell her about Aoife just yet. She still looked so weak and⦠unwell, and Lexi really didnât want to be the one that broke this news to her in case it triggered some sort of adverse reaction.
âHow are the pups?â She asked instead as Ann narrowed her eyes suspiciously at her.
âThe pups are doing well, surprisingly⦠but you know that already.â Ann answered as she watched the looks pass between them all. âCome on guys, Iâm not stupid. I know something has happened. Just tell meâ¦â
âIâd rather wait until you are feeling better. Can we justâ¦â âNo, Adam. Donât hide things from me. I want to know.â Ann insisted, her determination burning like a fire in her eyes.
Adam sighed heavily as he took hold of her other hand, and glanced at Lexi.
âItâs Aoife, Ann. Sheâs⦠missing.â Adam said finally in a subdued voice as Annâs eyes searched his own for answers that he didnât have.
âMissing? Butâ¦â
âSheâs missing and we donât know if sheâs still alive or not.â Lexi answered as Annâs face crumpled in devastation.
